Does it really matter where your room is located at Alligator Bayou in POR? Is it really that much further to get to certain locations at the resort? Is it better to have a room on the 1st floor or the 2nd floor? Are there elevators in the buildings?

We were in building 35 two years ago and it really was a bit of a hike! We honestly didn't mind it though because it was really a beautiful walk!

The closest AB bldgs to the main house are 14,15,& 18. Clsoest Bldg. to the main pool is 38. Farthest away bldg is 24 and 34, but all bldgs are close to bustops......when I say farthest, I mean a 10 minute walk tops, when I say closest I mean like 1 minute........The place is really beautiful!!!!

We stayed in AB 39 last July. It was a quick walk to the bus stop and to the main pool area, good location. We were on the second floor, there are no elevators at POR.

Actually there are elevators at POR. Alligator Bayou does not have any elevators, but the mansions do. We found the resort easy to navigate. It is beautiful as stated before.

Alligator Bayou buildings are only two stories and the mansions are three stories tall hence the elevators.

Have a wonderful trip.:flower3:

Teacup 315 is not correct. I know because we had a room on the third floor of waht was probably the worst building location at POR. It was a LONG hinke to get ANYWHERE. We weren't close to the main pool, the dining, the main bus stop. Even the closest secondary bus stop was a hike (It was actually faster for us to go to the main bus stop, esp. since that's the first drop. At the end of the day, we had to climb three flights of stairs!

If I ever stay there again, I'd request the Magnolia side, and probably a first floor room as well. Yes, the building location makes a big difference. I like being able to walk the grounds a little, but I don't want to HAVE to do it all the time.

The first morning we got up nice and early to get breakfast. My aim was to be at the gate by 9 - 9:15. We were a little slow finishing breakfast, but still okay to make the main bus stop.

Then DFIL wanted to go back to the room to "drop off his mug, and grab a few things."

I tried hard to hide my concern, and not be the drill seargent, but I was right....we waited at our nearest secondary bus stop, and didn't get to the park until almost 11am! By then the crowds were in full swing. EE had just opened and AK was the most crowded I have ever seen it to date! DH said on the bus, "Oh, we've got plenty of time here," etc.

Later that night it was, "You were right. Tomorrow we'll think more stategically."

I think I'm one of the few people that prefers a building that is far away from everything. We like peace and quiet. We were in building 35 and it was great. We noticed that the closer we got to the main area with the food court and stuff...it got louder and louder. No thanks! I'll take a long walk over a loud night anytime! I can't imagine staying in a nearby building during the peak season. I'd probably go insane. We were never in a huge hurry to get anywhere so we didn't mind how much time it took to walk and whatnot. However, there was a bus stop nearby our building which was nice. We were on the second floor, no elevator. Again, we like the second floor because we don't have to worry about kids running/stomping around above us.

So I'm confused. Were you in a building at Alligator Bayou or Magnolia Bend? Because first you said you were on the 3rd floor so I assumed you were at Magnolia Bend. But then you said that NEXT time you'd request Magnolia Bend instead. So where exactly were you this time?

When we stayed at POR in the past we always requested AB, however this past Dec. our flight was arriving late and we knew we would get what was left over. We were in the Mansions and to our surprise we loved it, from now on we won't be making any specific area requests only that it be 2nd. flr.

My friend stayed WAYYYYY in the back of AB last summer and came home swearing about it. Of course, she has 3 little boys that could not make that walk without doing little boy things the whole way (jumping on rocks, trying to run in and out of bushes, anything but walk from point A to point B). :rotfl:

On the other hand, we stayed in the Mansions (Parterre Place) and the walk was very manageable and pretty.:)

Alligator Bayou buildings have 2 floors, no elevators, and Magnolia Bend buildings have 3 floors with some 2 floor sections, with elevators. I really don't mind the walk from any of the blds, but have to admit some distances can be annoying if your feet are killing you or you just don't want to walk anymore. The grounds are really beautiful and relaxing.

We just stayed at POR, made no requests and were put in Alligator Bayou bld 14. I loved being so close to the food court, bus stop and pool and it was still very quiet.

We've stayed in some Alligator Bayou blds that were too far from the resort center for my liking, mostly because I was too tired to walk after spending all day in a park!

I usually request Magnolia Bend section. We've stayed in all the blds there and been pleased with all locations, although one year when our room was at the furthest end of Parterre Place my little girl asked me why they put us in the bld that was the furthest away from the food court and pool ;)

Check out building locations on this map. I hope this map works. We have stayed in building 14 and I don't think you could get any closer. And we have stayed further out and this is a beautiful walk in the morning for a nice hot cup of coffee. Remember at POR everybody walking to and from the foodcourt especially in the morning has to be friendly and say hi with a nice big smile.

See where the island the river goes right around it. There is a bridge from the food court over to the pool that is in the lower part of the island and also just below and to the right of the fishing hole. A beautiful pool and slide.
I'll attach some pictures from all ears there are some of the pools.
Also there is a boat ride over to DTD instead of taking the bus.

I vote for the far buildings in the quiet. That is what I intend on asking for. We live in a house 1/4 mile off of a country road and the nearest state highway is 3 miles away. Only 7 people live on our road. We want it quiet.

Actually mickeyluv'r to quote from Birnbaum's Walt Disney World 2008 edition

"The Magnolia Bend Mansion rooms..are situated in sprawling, elegant manor homes with stately columns and grand staircases. The Alligator Bayou rooms are in rustic weathered-wood buildings that are tucked among the flora native to the area. Although all buildings have two to three floors, only the Magnolia Bend Mansions have elevators."

Regardless of where you stay, your on vacation and ultimately we are on vacation to relax! POR is definately a place you can relax, it has it all!

Have a magical day! :flower3:

We just got back from riverside Feb 2nd. We were in building 14 in the alligator bayou section. It is the closest building to dining. very conveniant for the south depot bus stop. We had a beautiful view of the river and ducks. Like in another post they stated no elevators because there are only 2 floors. I might add it was nice and quiet also.

This past November we stayed in building 15. The main building with the food court was about a minute away. We were less than 5 minutes to the main pool. I strongly suggest you request that building or 16. There are not elevators. I don't think it matters if you are on the first and second floor though.

I read that buildings 17,27,28,34, and 36 used to be smoking optional buildings in AB. Has anyone stayed in one of these old smoking optional rooms? If so, how was it? Was there still a lingering smoke smell?
