Alli for Weight Loss

I took Alli for a while after seeing how much weight my brother in law lost on Xenical. I followed the guidelines to a tee and had no effects. I lost about 20 lbs in 6 weeks. After I "thought" I was tolerating the meds enough I thought I would skip a pill and treat myself to Mickey D's......Not a good idea. I cramped up and had severe ummmmmm, hershey squirts. It was HORRIBLE! I was sure I was dying. I quit Alli shortly after that and have gained most of the weight back. I think I am a person that needs the threat of adverse reactions to eat healthy. I will tell you though, After the Mickey D's issue I refused to go back for a long while. I recently ordered some fries from there and it messed my stomach up real bad! So, Mickey D's is on my No-Go list from now on! I am about to go back on Alli. You have to be careful when you start it. You have to eat the low fat diet for like 4 days before you even take your first pill!!!!!! Hope this helps. I will say that the first time you think you are eating OK but you look in the toilet and see sploches....you will re-think what healthy is!

I had hardly any fat intake and had issues. Many times not even realizing it. I didn't loose any weight. It is the only oer the counter diet pill approved by the FDA.

The post I quoted has been deleted, so I felt I should delete this as well.

I have tried Alli and really liked it when I used it. I did have "adverse effects" but only on the toilet, I never had an accident in my pants. I have since had my gallbladder out so I have not tried it since.
My aunt is a Dr. and she said that having your gallbladder out can cause the same symptoms as using the Alli pill. This might be TMI but when I eat too much fat in a meal I have very loose stools. I think the undigested fat makes them loose. This is just my opinion I have no idea if gallblader removal has anything to do with this.:)

Absolutely does. Happened to me. Thought I was dying. Only after I called the gastro in a panic did he tell me there is a powder you can drink that counters the effects. Had my gallbladder our about 2-3 years ago and I'm still using it today. It's called Cholestyramine. Works wonders. In my case, didn't matter if I took a drink of water -- immediate problems, so it wasn't even the food I was eating or what I was drinking. Gastro said some patients are able to stop taking the powder after a while, others can remain on it for years. Guess I'm the lucky one. :rolleyes1

This thread keeps me laughing! :thumbsup2
I have been on Alli for 3 weeks now and have lost 6 pounds.
I have NOT had any side effects! But I do watch what I eat. On the weekends I usually skip the pills a day or two.

Yep - the "pizza oil" side effect mentioned here is TRUE - but on a MUCH MORE SERIOUS note............. I got really really sick and ultimately had my gall bladder removed - NOT due to anything Alli related, ( I think) BUT, the Dr. was VERY curious as to WHY my liver IS enlarged.............. once I told him I'd been taking Alli - he said to STOP IMMEDIATELY. So, of course I did - apparently this is a "problem" with Alli. Here are a couple of links to this story -which I had NO clue was an issue before going in for surgery.

So, anyway, I'd advise anyone considering taking Alli - to be aware!!!

OMG!!!! I've had trouble with an enlarged liver, was asked by Doctor if I drank heavily, I told him I was T total and never touched the stuff, I told him I had been taking Alli and he said that would have nothing to do with it :scared1:

I'm so glad I stopped taking it anyway,,, yep pizza butt oil experience was NOT nice at all.
Thanks for posting the info, I'm going to go off and read up about it now and possibly challenge my Doctor :headache:
