Allergy warning - Gibson Girl, new policy

Well, I can understand their dilemma. To be honest, I'm glad they didn't choose to eliminate peanuts, though. If your allergy isn't too severe, you could just order a sundae without nuts. If it is severe, then you would probably appreciate the change, although no toppings would be a huge downer.

How sad :(

Glad my son got his ice cream cone last time we were there. That was his first, and apparently his last :(

My wife experienced this back in June when we went to get our traditional waffle cones. It's been around for a few months at least.

I don't know how they were doing it before, but if it was anything like Beaches & Cream at WDW, I can see why they'd move to this policy. For B&C, if they had a patron with allergies, they'd open brand new everything for them just to make sure there were no cross contamination issues. It just seemed like such an ordeal and waste to open brand new things each time someone with allergies wanted ice cream. That being said, my older one has peanut and tree nut allergies, and it meant she was able to eat a sundae...still, the business side of me says it's not worth it.

I guess at least she can still eat plain chocolate or vanilla. We've been to enough places that refuse to serve her anything...so, something is better than nothing.

My son has severe peanut allergies.

Last time we went (a year ago) they made him a special cone. It was a great experience.

I understand the basis for the policy. While it was nice what they did for him, I was surprised at how much time they spent making it for him.

Honestly, as long as they have *a* policy in place, I'm okay with it. I think what they used to do was pretty exceptional, but just recognizing the peanut/allergy issue is still worth applauding IMO.

At least they still have something to serve those with a peanut allergy. We were on vacation recently and went to a scoop shop (not at Disney). They had four different flavors of sorbet! Heaven for a child with a dairy allergy, right? Wrong, they use the same scoops for everything. She couldn't have anything there. It made me begin to wonder... Why not have a separate scoop for each flavor? And maybe separate the flavor into the various cases by allergens (have all the nuts together, the gluten together, the non dairy together, etc.). Of course, that thought never occurred to me before I had a kid with food allergies. Maybe someday...
