allergy shots-ears

I have been having problems with my ears plugging up. Finally went to see allergy dr and found out I am allergic to dogs and dust. Of course, I have dogs at home. However, what is puzzling me is that so far I have been mainly doing otc clartin and it helps all systems except the ears. This dr said what I need is the immunity shots starting right now. In reading your posts, it seems that most of you went to shots after all other drugs and tactics failed. Does it make sense to go straight to this and do you think it will help my ears? How much does a shot a week run and did your insurance cover it? Need advice.

When I was a kid, I got shots. They didn't have great drugs back then and what they had made me fall asleep in class. I quit the shots when I got older and just try to avoid the stuff that drives me over the edge.

I don't think the shots I got (back then) did me much good. But I'm allergic to just about everything under the sun. I get hives every day from the water in the shower.

What do you mean "plugging up?" Do you mean that you have to get your ears cleaned to be able to hear?

Have you tried Flonase or Beconase yet?

I would only do the shots as a last resort. It is very time consuming and there are no guarantees that it will work or if it does, for how long. As far as cost goes, check with your insurance first. There are A LOT of visits involved and it adds up quickly. My son got his once a week for four years (192 visits). That's not counting the times we had to go back for reactions, progress checks and various other things. The shots have helped him somewhat, but he still takes allergy meds daily and has lots of flare-ups.
