Anyone else suffering from allergies right now... I hate it, I felt it coming on a few days ago and started taking claritin and now here I am sick as a dog...I was up all night and couldn't breath...

What do you do to cure yourself from your allergy?

My son has REALLY been suffering this week. He's already on Zyrtec and Singulair. Not sure what else to do for him.

I've just had a mild sinus headache since Monday and have done nothing for it.

I have allergies too. Mine started a few days ago and is progressively getting worse. I went to an allergist, got tested and couldn't believe that I am allergic to just about everything!:scared1: He gave me some Zyrtec to try but I haven't used it yet. I hate the "haze" all allergy medicines make me feel like I am in so I usually wait till I get severely bad and can't take it anymore to take the meds. My sister, has really bad allergies too (most of my family has bad allergies) and she took the Zyrtec and said it worked great for her. But, she has to take it at night.

My poor 7 year old son has allergies year round!!! He only gets one mont of relief, December. He has to take a couple different meds, different ones for different times of the year. It affects his skin too and he breaks out in rashes, and hives. It's terrible. The meds take the edge off but nothing really helps him.

To answer your question, for my DS, we have to keep him indoors as much as possible, especially in the spring. No outdoor recess for him!:sad2: We change his clothing and bath him as soon as he gets home from school to get all the allergens off him. No open windows in the house, and meds given everyday. For myself, advil for the sinus headachs and I will try the Zyrtec when i gets really bad. Claritin gave me heart palpitations so I couldn't take it.:confused3

Hope you find a medicine that can help you! Good Luck!:goodvibes

We all suffer from allergies here, my ds and dh the most. Recently my ped put my dd on a new med called Xyzal. It works great. No side effects, no feeling sleepy. My ds usually takes Allegra and Singulair, however, recently I could still hear him snuffing and sounding congested so I started giving him the Xyzal and he sounds great now. Im going to talk to his ped tomorrow about switching him over.

We all have it, some more than others. DS20 is using Nasacort, I'm on Claritin D 12 hour and Mucinex DM, DD18 is on the same Claritin, DH is on Zyrtec, and DGS8 months is on C-Phen DM. We're like a walking drug store this time of year!

Isn't Xyzal the same thing as Zyrtec or am I confusing that?

I've been dealing with my nasal rhinitis since last week when we had that beautiful weather. I have to make an appointment with my allergist to get a refill RX of my Rhinocort Aqua.

However, nothing has been helping the irritation/burning feeling in my eyes (eye drops help a little), the burning feeling in my throat or the flushed feeling in my face. I've tried Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra and a few others over the years and nothing helps those symptons at all :headache:. I can't even take any of those meds with the decongestent in them b/c it's too strong and I get the darn side effects. Yet without it, it's not strong enough.

Spring and Fall are when mine flare up b/c we are going from cold to warm and vice versa. So it does a number on my sinuses as well. Once the temps level out and balance, I should be fine (until Fall that is).

Allergies are bad here too.

As for curing allergies, the best way to do that is to get allergy shots. Also, make sure you are seeing an allergy specialist and they test you for allergies so you know what you are dealing with. Some medications work better on different types of allergies.

Our boys take Allegra, DD and I use Claritin. I can only take one tablet every few days or I get a bloody nose though.

Not the same thing, but a different form of it. Ds was on xyzal and it helped at first for a few months. Then just stopped working for him!

Allery shots are the only thing that has helped me!
I used to be on meds. year-round and still got sinus infections all the time.
Now I only get none or 1 sinus infection each year and it's not usually due to allergies but being sick.
I only wish I had bit the bullet and started them sooner instead of wasting so much of my life feeling crappy due to my allergies.

27 years of allergies (so far) and the ONLY thing that helps me is Claritin! I feel kind of lucky, though; I have no issues with pollen. It's mold and cats that get me. So if it rains or I am around DBF's 2 cats, I can't function unless I've had my Claritin.

However, it doesn't always cure my itchy, watery, red allergy eyes. The best thing for that, I've found, is this herbal "bean bag" pillow that someone gave me. They bought it at a local craft fair. I keep it in the freezer, and when my eyes act up, I lie down with it on my eyes for 15-20 minutes. Incredibly soothing!

Yeah, it's been allergy season here too. I basically suffer from one allergy to another from when the snow begins to melt to the first hard freeze, so maybe 8 months. Some months are better than others, but I really look forward to that first fall day when I can walk around with my head fully clear again.

I would take things for it, but most OTC allergy meds have the same effect on me as candy - ie, none. I could take shots, but I doubt that they would last for more than a season or two, given past experiences.
