Has anyone flown Allegiant Air? They started service out of Worcester, Mass., and fly into Orlando/Sanford. The prices are generally around $59 each way, which is great. Are they OK to fly? How's Sanford as opposed to MCO? Any info you could provide would be great. Thank you!

They're a charter airline. Do a search for USA3000 if you want to read about the pitfalls of booking a charter airline.

DME won't pick you up at Sanford and towncars are more expensive than MCO.

My DH, DD and I flew them in October and I thought they were great (we got $39 r/t). I really liked Sanford airport - it's much smaller than MCO so no crowds whatsoever. We were checked in and through security in less than half an hour. They're a no-frills airline but I would absolutely fly them again.

Allegiant is a charter??? I didn't know that. My brother is booked on them for January. If I had known....

I just checked... that does not appear to be the case:
certificated by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) as a “Scheduled Air Carrier” with authority to fly scheduled and charter airline operations throughout the U.S.

We're set to fly them in Jan.- $39 each way was too good to pass up! I read every report on them online I could find, and they seem to do well-
We got a car rental to WDW for $250 with all fees - we always rent a car eve at Mco- the cost of car transport is silly- I'd rather pay a little more, and have the freedom to dirve where I want-
so airfare was MUCH cheaper this time from them- and car rental was the same- what's not to like?
I'm also looking forward to the smaller airport experience- I find the Mega-airports wearying- too many people -hours in lines- running everywhere
:earsboy:

My bad, they seem to be a charter that's actually running scheduled service.

Or a scheduled airline that also runs charters. :)

Just got back from flying them with the $39 each way, and I'd fly them again for a deal. They seemed to be running a perpetual 20 minutes late (this is out of Pease in NH), but other than that, no complaints. I liked flying into Sanford, the rental car was no more expensive than any out of MCO, but a towncar would have been. It is an extra 1/2 hour drive from Sanford to disney(about), but for $39 each way, it was worth it.

Hmmm... I cannot imagine those $39, $49, $59 and $69 deals can last long. Does anyone know how much investment capital Allegiant has to burn through, before they have to raise their rates to reflect how much it costs to run the airline? :)

Hopefully enough to get your brother down to Orlando and maybe even to get him back to the NE. :)

Well, I would hope that they raise the fares before they go out of business!

Rates do vary. I was looking at flying out of NH because of the cheaper fares, but I did notice some fares, depending on the time of year, were as high as $209 or higher. If it fit into my plans and budget, I would consider flying Allegiant.

Well let me just say Allegiant begam routes in Peoria, IL to Sanford and Las Vegas last April....good rates.

By the first of November they announced they were closing down the Orlando run and they stopped running to Orlando the first of December so they weren't here more than 6 months.

I can't remember what they blamed but I think the fact another airport (within 40 mins) has Airtran and Airtran goes to MCO probably made the difference.

I hope they're running long enough to get ourselves and our friends who also booked this awesome deal there and back in the next few months... :wizard:
right now fares seem to be about 59 each way- I think that's still pretty good, and for those in the Boston area- they don't have to go through that huge Logan...if Southwest can give fares like that- they should be able to also-

The industry is supposed to lose some capacity this coming year, and a lot more capacity over the next three years. That should fix the current disparity between fares and the costs of running the airlines. If not, we'll see a lot more airlines going through the process of having the American taxpayer pick up the tab for their pension plans.

I haven't used them yet but have them booked Allentown to Sanford in Feb. I will not purchase them again unless I have no other choice. I tried to change our flight to March and while the two people I talked to were very nice I am very surprised at the change and cancellation policy. The first person told me that even though the new flight was $20 less one way I was not entitled to that, I had to pay the same price as the first flight I booked. So I hung up the phone and called back. Next person said yes, I could get the the cheaper flight, just cancel and rebook with credit. $50 change fee, which I knew, except when we got to the fees it is $50 per one way. So really $100. I was surprised since it doesn't state that in there policy. Also the $40 to pick a seat can't be switched over to new reservation, so that was a loss. I will stick to flying out of Philly and the hassles it brings rather then deal with Allegiant again.

Allegiant makes their change fee policy very clear on their website:
All Allegiant fares are non-refundable. Changes may be made for a fee of $50 per passenger per segment plus any difference in fare.
[Emphasis added.]

That may be true. When I called them I was using my confirmation notice as reference and there is nothing on it about $50 per segment. Only states a $50 change or cancellation fee.

I know old post !

But has anyone flown them recently?

Are they safe they seem to use old planes?

Since they only have 1 flight a day what do they do incase of bad weather cancel?

Thanks

Passengers have a choice between a refund or flying on a later flight, that has availability. In many cases that means cancelling your trip, driving or taking the refund and paying (probably more $$$) in order to fly with another airline.
