Hi.. I'm trying to convince my friend to eat at certain restaurants. I've shown her the menus on AllEarsNet, and she isn't really that impressed. I've tried to tell her that I believe they probably have more than what those menus show, but she doesn't believe me. Can you please confirm to me that they do? I know this is probably pretty dumb!

Most of the menus are dead on, but words don't do justice for some of the dishes, this is espicially true of Signature Dining restaurants.

Le Cellier (sp?) is rumored to be incomplete.

The menus are not extensive. There are usually 2-3 entrees that are the specialty of the restaurant and then some 'other' choices.

Here is a link to the menus here on the DIS

DIS Menus

better to find out now where there are choices she likes than when in the restaurant!!:cool1:

I second the idea of showing her the Food Pictures (Food Porn) threads. Nothing makes you want to eat at Disney like seeing the food:thumbsup2

allearsnet.com has the most accurate, up-to-date menus I've found.

Disney just doesn't the kind of selection they once did.

I found that after looking at menu after menu on AllEars that they all just started to blend together. I know it's not true, but it seemed like after a while, all the restaurants of a certain type just had variations of the same dishes. I know it's not actually like that, but after reading them all, it seemed that way!

I actually think the DIS has more up-to-date menus.

Both sites rely, to varying degrees, on site participants to obtain and submit menus - Disney doesn't release or otherwise make them available to the general public.

The advantage to the DIS menus - see the link in Pumbaa's post - is that if a menu is missing (or, possibly, very old), you can contact the Webmasters via an e-mail link at the bottom of that page; some of them live in the Orlando area and can, if possible, go to the restaurant and get an updated menu.

Seriously - it doesn't happen often, but think of the 'passionate' threads when a new menu is posted on allears but is missing some favorite dish, or has no desserts, or a CS menu (likely submitted as a photograph) only shows half the known available items.

Remember, ALL posted menus on all sites are as accurate as possible but unofficial.

Sometimes we do overrate these Disney restaurants, but that is only if you base your rating on menu selection. I think the atmosphere, service, and Disney setting make even the most basic cheeseburger a better dining experience. Also, given how many restaurants are in this relatively small area, some restaurants do seem to have shifted to more focused menus and just provide a few appetizer, entree, and dessert choices. Hopefully it means that these places are doing these choices at a very high level. If food choice is a struggle for you and your friend, perhaps a tour around EPCOT or some of the higher rated buffets are the way to go.

What kind of food does your friend like? What isn't she impressed with as far as the menus go?

Most if not all WDW menus are one page affairs, printed on paper. By major restaurant standards, they are not extensive at all. The menus on ALLEARS and on our site are pretty accurate and the restaurants don't have much more than what those menus show.

Thank you all for getting back to me! It's hard to choose a restaurant because she is more of a hamburger/plain chicken kind of girl, so when those things aren't on the menus, she doesn't want to eat there. There weren't very many of the World Showcase restaurants that she liked according to the menus, but I want to eat at a couple of them.

Tell her to pull her wooly head in and try something different for a change, and if that fails, compromise, you will let her pick a place to eat and then she lets you pick one.

Or leave her behind and take me I will try just about anything once.

Kirsten

Instead of showing menus read the thread on food pictures!

What restaurants are you looking at? I'm assuming table service. If it helps, she can order the chicken/steak/whatever without the sauces or whatever it is she doesn't like about it. Not all of it is as fancy as it sounds on some of the menus either.

I'm a picky eater who likes very plain food. Well prepared and served plain food, I might add! *LOL* No--or minimal--sauces, seasoning, etc., and I don't like foods mixed together. I can relate to your friend!

Try to stick to places that will offer a variety. The buffets (dinner) at Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Faire are very good for that--and the food is good! They have the basics, as well as things for somewhat more adventurous palates. Yachtsman Steakhouse--higher price range--has a very good menu, although not terribly extensive. More casual and better priced is the Turf Bar & Grill at SSR. Might work for both of you.

Quite honestly, you'll never get me into Boma, Jiko, Cali Grill or similar restaurants unless I'm able to discuss a suitable menu/pricing with the restaurant in advance. I won't order off the menu--I won't eat it. I don't understand why I should always be the one to change what I like to eat to suit others. :confused3

So I bow out of places I don't appreciate and join in at the places I like. If you want to dine together, you'll need to find places that cater to both of your tastes. That's what we've learned to do.

What do you when you travel international? Would you try to find a McDonald's in India or Japan?

Well, Taja probably would be able to find familiar food/restaurants, even in Japan or India :teeth: but I see your point. Why bother? Even (especially)at Disney, there is something for everyone. I understand having preferences, and pretty much needing to dine in restaurants on vacation, and how accommodating Disney is - but not changing what one eats to what a restaurant one chooses to patronize serves is an interesting point of view.

And bigbabyblues is correct - any restaurant will prepare pretty much any of its dishes "plain".
