they usually aren't THIS off! please tell me it isn't almost $40 to eat at Bomas now..:scared1:

Most dinner buffets and family style dinners will run you between $30-$40 for an adult (depending on where and when). It is a good value when on the DDP, not so much when paying OOP. Stinks, I know.

Unfortunately, this doesn't tell us the price. It just tells us that the price falls somewhere in that range. Two buffets, one costing $18 and one costing $34, would both be listed in this same way. (Check out Trail's End on the Disney site, for example.)

Many folks see that listing ("$15-$35.99") and assume that the former is the kids' price and the latter is the adults. It's quite confusing for the cost to be listed that way without further explanation.

The menu is from November 2010....and I'm pretty sure the price is reflective of the "seasonal" surcharge for most buffets (Holidays, Spring Break, and first 1/2 of the Summer). You can probably knock about $5 off the price during the rest of the year.

I'll have to double check my receipt from last week, but I believe it was $33.99 per person for the buffet, pre-tax.

That $39.40 on AllEars would be $36.99 plus tax. So it looks like they may have bumped it up the $4 for "holiday pricing", then dropped it back only $3 when the holiday season ended. How sneaky!!

Still, as my favorite restaurant in the universe, it would take a lot bigger price hike than that to keep me away from Boma.

we have eaten there twice, once on the DDP, once out of pocket, and it was'nt that much at all!. guess I just got sticker shock. hopefully, holiday pricing has something to do with it.

Dinner

Peak: $36.99/adult ($39.40 tax included, but not tip) and $17.99/child ($19.16 tax incl. no tip)

Non-Peak: $32.99/adult ($35.13 tax incl. but not tip) and $15.99/child ($17.02 tax incl. no tip)

** just called to check prices **

All buffets have gone up approx. $2.00-$3.00/pp for 2011. When you add tax and tip, some of them, including Boma, are approaching $50.00 during peak season for dinner, and some of some of the character meals are actually close to $50.00 without tip for dinner. :scared1:

Here is my thread that I started last month with most 2011 buffet prices:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2627843

FYI - Peak season upcharge is $4.00/adult and $2.00/child. Disney does not advertise this, as they just change menu prices. They function by always charging the current price at time of travel, so you pay higher prices for those meals during peak season.

All Ears and Wdwinfo are frequently wrong, so you will do best to call Disney, as all websites seem to be still updating for new prices, including Disney. So, although All Ears is correct with this price for Boma, it's the peak season price. They don't change their prices regularly enough on All Ears, plus, they don't separate peak and non-peak prices, which is a problem, as far as I'm concerned.

Disney just keeps raising food prices, while taking food items away, and offering subpar service at many restaurants, IMHO.

It looks like that is their way to force people into using packages and getting a dining plan. They are reaching a point where it doesn't pay for someone to go to character meals and other buffets for dinner and pay OOP. My guess is the more they convert people over to dining plans, the higher the prices are going to get to eat OOP (I realize that is just stating the obvious). Oh well. :confused3

Yup, I totally agree. We have eaten pretty much everywhere, multiple times, so our answer to this is that we are not renewing our Tables in Wonderland card, as we are going to eat most of our meals in our villa.

We are going to do the DxDP for 1st night during our July trip, so we can do 3 character meals, and that is it. I have 2 Disney babes who have done character meals over and over again, and still love them, so I can't take them away altogether, so based on a financial perspective, and because as DVC members we can mix and match and stagger the DP throughout our stay (this is brand new), this is the best way for us to do those 3 character meals.

We are eating a few other TS meals at Kona, Marrakesh, T-Rex and RFC, using different discounts that we have available to us, and will eat a few CS meals on long park days, and that is it.

We used to eat 2-3 TS meals per day, so we've spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on Disney food, but no more. Food prices are out of control!

Yes it has really gone up. It used to be one of the more economically priced meals. In November, it was over $100 for three of us for dinner.

could you explain this? (we rent points from friends, would that apply to us at all?)

I must say I am very disappointed. a buffet should not cost as much as a nice sit-down restaurant.

for a couple extra bucks, I can get the humongous Porterhouse at Yachtsman's Steakhouse ( a signature restaurant.

I have never rented points, nor would I rent out my points, so I am not sure? Come on over to the DVC boards and someone there can help you with this, as there were some active threads about it. The problem is that you have to pay for the DP now as soon as you add it, so your friends would have to add it, and pay for you, so not sure how this is working out for rentals?

Good luck, Tiger

Porterhouse at the Yachtsman is $44 plus tax & tip. Dinner at Boma is $33.99 plus tax & tip, and including beverage and dessert. It's more of a difference than it might look like, when all is included.
