I've looked at the various menus on allearsnet and they seem to be very short. Do they contain everything that a restaurant has to offer? For instance, the Brown Derby lunch menu only lists 8 entrees. Is that accurate?

Generally, they do contain all the items on the menu. It's tougher for buffets.

But honestly, I think 8 main dishes on a menu is plenty.

Yes, they are complete.

Menus at WDW restaurants are a little abbreviated compared to the average chain restaurant or local diner. They try to keep it simple to make the kitchen more efficient, and help the Guest narrow their choices to shorten turnover time.

Some places vary their menu periodically. Don't quote me, but I seem to recall that was going to be part of the philosophy of The Wave. I think they are going to try and serve what is fresh and in season. Certain things like burgers will always be there, but the fruit desserts might be subject to season variation, and some entrees too.

I also know that although Boma has a fairly set menu, they alternate options. They have one menu on Mon/Wed/Fri and other on Tues/Thurs/ Sat (not sure about Sunday), I'm not positive of the exact schedule, but it works something like that. Periodically they make changes too. I imagine other buffets work the same way. The breads are always the same, but the soups and veggies change.

With food prices soaring, don't be surprised to see a few of the more expensive items disappearing as well.

Not all of the offerings at WDW are owned by Disney. I'd expect some places like Yak and Yeti to maybe make a few changes periodically, or offer specials.

Also, chefs move around. Sometimes they take signature item recipes with them when they go. More recently, DIsney has been encouraging chefs to make more healthy choices.

So, to answer you directly, yes and no. More or less they are the correct menus and will give you a good sense of the kind of offerings and prices. Just don't get your heart set on a particular dish being served when you arrive.

I guess I never realized that WDWmenus were so short. I can understand WillCAD's explaination of why they are kept short, but I guess we're just used to more variety and I really don't think 8 entrees is a lot to choose from. The privately-owned, non-chain restaurants in our area offer more than 8 entrees and they offer various entrees for each food-type ie: meat, chicken, pasta. As for the Derby, (my MIL's choice for a meal) out of those 8 entrees, 3 are fish, something our family doesn't generally eat, so we're down to 5 to choose from. 1 meat, 1 chicken, 1 salad, 1 vegetarian & 1 pasta. I think we'll have MIL select a back-up choice with maybe a little more variety.

They are short. But pretty much by looking at allears menus we know what we are going to get at each restaurant before we even get to WDW. Which is a good idea if you are going to San Angel cause the lighting is pretty much candel light and hard to read the menu.

This is why, IMHO, it is so hard when they remove a dish from the menu. There are limited choices at each restaurant. I typically have a dish I order at each place. So for me, it is I want _____ so I am going to ________

Artist Point - Buffalo
Prime Time - Fried Chicken
B&C - burger (but that is pretty much a given )
Kona - scallops and shrimp
Brown Derby - Grouper
Le Cellier - mushroom filet

If they don't have it, I would seriously reconsider that restaurant choice. The bad thing is, I am starting to do that at home too

Well, we went to a nice local restaurant for our anniversary (price-wise, similar to Brown Derby) and there are 9 main dishes on their current menu.

But, unless you live in a tourist-dominated area, your local places have to build a following with local clientele who will hopefully become repeat customers, and that requires a certain amount of menu diversity.

I'd wager that most people in any one of Disney's sit-down restaurants will never be back---and of those that do return, most won't do so for several years. I've been to WDW about five times in the past four years, and so far have eaten in CRT twice (once for breakfast, once for lunch), Garden Grill twice (once for lunch, once for dinner), and Olivia's twice (once for lunch, once for dinner). I don't believe I've repeated any other table service meal.

I do sometimes find a menu where nothing really grabs me, but I haven't yet encountered a "there's nothing here I feel like eating" situation.

We live on the coast of Southern Maine - we are tourist haven! Many local newspapers, magazines and muninipalities state that our area has "more restaurants per capita than any other city in the United States besides San Francisco."
