We generally stay at POR and this time we are thinking about going Deluxe and staying at AKL. Please give me your thoughts!

Thanks

I've never stayed at POR but I've stayed at the Poly, the CR, and AKL. Was at AKL in Jan. Thought it was fabulous. We had giraffes and ankole cattle and kudu outside our balcony. The pool is terrific with zero entry and a slide. We enjoyed chatting with the many African CMs who work at the resort. We enjoyed the art and cultural displays. It is definitely a distinctive environment. It may be the least "mickey mouse" of all the resorts. This place packs a WOW factor beyond Disney. (My opinion.)

The things you will like moving up from a moderate to a deluxe are interior walkways, balconies, more eating options, and a bigger room with bigger beds. I liked the dedicated bus service to all the parks and DTD; we never shared with another resort when I was there.

The only thing to consider is construction. Some people say they notice a great deal and others report they never heard a peep. So there you go.

I love AKL, I have stayed there several times and it's my favourite resort, but I won't stay there again until all that DVC nonsense is complete. Construction sounds & eyesores is not what I want on holiday.

If you are considering it, I wouldn't wait too long to book. I think rooms are limited from what I am reading especially if it's at a busier time.

We love Boma for both breakfast and dinner too. YUM!

We returned a couple of days ago from 2 wonderful weeks at AKL. I'm hooked!!!

We were lucky enough to get Kudu trail so no construction noise.

I can not stress how wonderful this hotel is - it is literally jaw dropping when you walk in.

I could rave on and on

Hi Flyerfan,

as so many others I absolutely fell in love with AKL during our stay there. I wrote a review on our stay, if you are interested you can find it (as well as some pictures) here:

Also a very helpful thread ist the unofficial FAQ. From what I have heard there, the construction is moving along quickly, so there is a chance that by January the main building might be done already. It also seems that they are blocking more rooms now to ensure that guests are not inconvenienced by the construction.

Have a great trip!
