All those airline fees add up

:confused3

Airlines are for profit businesses. They are supposed to make a profit. If they weren't making money from these extra fees, ticket prices would go up.

Guess its bring your own pillow, bring your own blanket, and byob.
Which would you rather have, charge more for EVERY ticket, or only charge the people who utilize a feature (whether luggage, wifi, pillow, blanket, etc)?

I'd rather have "pay as you need" - within reason. No charge for necessities like the restroom or a seat, but if you want the pillow, the blanket, the radio - you pay for it. I've got more books on my Kindle than I could hope to read in a year, never mind a three to five hour flight.

I'm in the group that is more than happy to pay for what I use. If I want to check two bags, I expect to pay for at least one of them. If I want a blanket, I usually being my own travel blanket. Food? I either make do with the free snacks or I bring something heartier with me. If I want a seat with more legroom, I pay for it. Depends on the length of the flight. I don't want fares to go up so that everything is free.

Something I was thinking about on my last flight... has wifi gotten to the point enough people would use it that it should be free?

kaytiee used the restroom as an example. I agree that should definitely be free, but how many people really use one during a flight? Then look at how many people would use Wifi?

My local airport has free wifi. I know El Paso has free wifi also. But Atlanta charges. I don't remember MCO.

OK, I'm rambling, but my point is do you think wifi should be one of the 'free' perks (in the air or on the ground)?

How about:
differential luggage fees depending on whether you book/pay on-line, in-person at the airport or via a call center,
A charge for printing a boarding pass,
A fee to reserve a seat, more for aisle or window?

I think I need to buy a photographer's vest . . .

Here is one fee buster tip. United Airlines premium credit card.(if u fly United) $90 fee per year but if you fly at least once per year with spouse or anyone for that matter you $25 per bag fee waived for you and that person. Round trip would cost $100 so you're ahead $10  Get early boarding also and a couple lounge tickets for the airports that have United Club (Orlando does :thumbsup2 ) Plus double miles if you're a frequent flyer with United.

They prefer to do it this way because they are attempting to cut the govt. slice out of their profit calculations. They don't owe transportation taxes on "incidental" fees, only on 7.5% of the "fare."
