All the ``temporary closures?``…

Respectfully, I think you are over-thinking this a little. Obviously, the major closures at Hollywood Studios necessitate consideration and and everyone needs to decide on their own if the park is worth their vacation time. However, worrying about ride closures due to rain or a maintenance issue is not useful. If a ride goes down would missing that one ride really spoil your trip? Probably not, but obviously everyone has a different opinion. If a ride goes down you always have a chance to replace that fp with another attraction or who the ride reopens later in the day.
I think the issue is choosing FP selections so far out and looking at all the little things that can go wrong (and are going wrong) "day of". I get it.

Of course, this is worst case scenario, but in my case, the day SDMT was rained out for us, we were pretty much rained out altogether. It rained cats and dogs all day. I'm talking flash flood conditions. We just decided we had enough and packed it after (a delicious) lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern. So we *could* have trekked over to SDMT to see what was offered (anytime FP for that day for several other attractions, I'm assuming?), but none of us cared to. We were soaked to the bone and over it.

Missing SDMT altogether would not have spoiled our trip, but it would have been pretty disappointing. Luckily, we had ridden it 2 days prior (another FP) so no one felt particularly shafted.

Long story short, I stand by my advice. If it's important to you, book it on more than one day. I have read tales of injury, illness, weather and closures that have interfered with keeping FP times. Hopefully none of that happens, but if you've booked it more than one day, you have a little insurance.

Just wanted to add that I check the lines app and MDE from home all the time! You aren't alone! I just wouldn't let it worry you I'm terms of ride closures etc...

I am sure I am overthinking it, and wish I didn't have to do any of the advance planning: feels like a hamster wheel! I am less concerned about missing a ride than not having those cool places to explore between rides...that is why I mentioned the exit of SOUNDS DANGEROUS and the Animation building.

That said, I wasn't concerned about rain closures, (perhaps I was misconstrued,) but was fascinated that rides no one ever used to go on, that always ran like clockwork, now seem to come up as temporarily closed a lot?...I thought it odd and different, and questioned it.

It's all good, I just think it could be better, and like most things, it could be
worse! Thank you for your details about fp+.

This is great advice particularly for 7dmt, AE, TSMM etc ... If you are able to ride the ride the first time you will most likely be able to swap out your insurance fp for something high quality like Space, Splash or R&R with a couple days notice, whereas the reverse would not be true! Very sensible for multi-dat trips!!!

Good point!

Thank you for bravely admitting you do this too!:yoda: I am going next month, so it makes sense to me to have a look at what to expect. Worrying won't help, so I won't, but I do like to know what I am walking into...like informing my daughter that we won't be riding "Pirates..." before she packs her scabbard!:sail:

We were also there 7/5-7/11 and were surprised how not crowded the parks were for summer. We were right next to the railing at Epcot at the last minute for Illuminations. This has never been the case for 10 yrs. The parks seemed to close earlier too, with MK being open on Friday the 10th till 11pm only. No EMH that week. Are they cutting hrs and are the crowds down or was it my imagination?!
I just arrived home from a stay from July 8th until yesterday. Park attendance seemed low. We had fast passes and only used 2 the entire stay. Most waits were 10-20 minutes. At any park.

We are in the same boat, no pun intended! Lol! I had to remind my youngling just today that Pirates and her beloved LTT will be closed in August!!

I keep looking at days and wait times on MDE, and there seem to be A LOT of temporary closures, which seem silly!

Now I understand a 3:00 closure of Expedition Everest is probably because of a rain shower,
but what is a Carousel of Progress closure at 11:00 am? RnRC has also been down at park opening a lot

I don`t know. Perhaps I am just feeling that they just closed the animation building, lots of attractions wil be closed or being refurbished, and I keep seeing temporary closures, so I am discouraged, and feel that chosing fastpasses 60 days in advance, I am micro planning for no good reason!

...can you tell that I miss the old FP system, where this would be less disappointing? :(

BTW, safety is a total priority to me!...I just see things like Honey I shrunk the Kids playground closed, and am confuzzled!

It is a bummer when things close.

With the current system in place, if the ride is closed when your FP was supposed to be valid, you will automatically be assigned an anytime FP for certain attractions including the one they is down. You can't wait for it to come backup and use the FP anytime after that. Or pick something else with no additional effort on your part.

As for COP, doesn't it go down when someone tries to leave when they aren't supposed to?

This just made me giggle,...like it's a dungeon, and you are forbidden to leave! I didn't know that people try to leave, but your explanation makes sense!...That could be very dangerous!

Is all this done via email or MDE? Or do you have to physically go to the ride?

Done automatically in the system. I even asked a few times because the email isn't literally sent the literal moment of a closure. It may take a few minutes but an email will be sent, though I have read some done get one on occasion. You do not need to go to a kiosks or "on the ride" for anything to happen since it is automatic. (Though knowing the ride was closed is useful.) MDE does update as well. To know what rides you can substitute would require reading the email, smart phone or a kiosk visit. The original ride is pretty much always included. I can't think of a time it had not. But don't want to be caught saying it is always without fail included only for someone to cite a time it wasn't.

*I have no experience or knowledge with what happens if you passed the first reader or the second reader before you got on but the ride closes.*

I do have experience with the ride closure and subsequent FP assignment due to weather and malfunctions.

Yeah - I never got an email. Not that we would have used the FP anyway. It literally rained all day, like from the time we entered MK at 8:00 am to 11 pm when we bailed on the Wishes dessert party. Luckily, it was our 2nd MK day and we'd already gotten a lot done. And again, it was no biggie, because my family had already ridden SDMT once.

Oh that stinks!

I had posted before about my first time going on the new TT when I finally was eligible.
And it rained out. At that time of night in EPCOT, the alternates were in adequate and it was time to head home.

Weather closures are always disappointing. You know Disney doesn't control it. But it doesn't make it any less disappointing.

Just make sure that the email address you used for MDE is the same email address you have access to on your phone. Don't ask me how I figured that out, but I sure wish they'd use text messaging rather than email!

Ah - it was no biggie. It was just one of those moments you can learn from. It really would have been a biggie had it been my only FP for mine train. Like I said, even if they had emailed me, I wouldn't have taken them up on the FP - unless it was for the next day and a different park ;).

The biggie was paying for the dessert party and never seeing Wishes. And I have NEVER seen Wishes. So that was disappointing. Nothing to be done about that either. I do laugh when people say Florida rain storms will pass fast. Yes, many times they will ... but I lived through like 12 hours or more of straight rain? Of course, I'm a good dis-er, so when the family looked at the forecast and said what do we do, I said, of course, we march on! Miserable day ... other than Liberty Tree Tavern - that was really good!

We saw the same thing last week. The parks seemed empty. We ran into a mess at DHS. We got there at 2:00 on arrival day. And planned on spending the evening through extra magic hours. Aerosmith was down most of the night, the back of the park closes at 8:30 to prepare for fireworks, so TSMM and great movie ride are taken out of play. I was forced to finally try the Peanut Butter and Jelly shake at Prime Time to kill some time. That choice made me pay.

Also, on our late stay at MK we were already bummed by pirates being closed, haunted mansion line was crazy long, and Space Mountain was down all night. We even saw the inside of SM all lit up on our people mover ride. It was strange to see the ride in full light. It lost a little magic.

At Epcot.... Figment was down, not a big deal I know but maelstrom was closed and innoventions was shuttered. Just seemed like one thing after another.

The restaurants were begging for people to come in...they were open and empty. :)

And FP+ makes the impact far greater. If your MK day is a 7DMT FP day, and its closed all day due to rain, giving you a Stitch FP doesn't exactly make up for it, and good luck trying to get a 7DMT FP for the next morning ... of course, legacy FP, you could have just gone to MK the next day in the morning, and pulled an FP.

You are right, Disney can't control the weather, but they can create a system which is more flexible and doesn't lock people into their plans as much... but FP+ was designed to lock you in, it is one of its openly stated purposes.
