All the ``temporary closures?``…

I keep looking at days and wait times on MDE, and there seem to be A LOT of temporary closures, which seem silly!

Now I understand a 3:00 closure of Expedition Everest is probably because of a rain shower,
but what is a Carousel of Progress closure at 11:00 am? RnRC has also been down at park opening a lot

I don`t know. Perhaps I am just feeling that they just closed the animation building, lots of attractions wil be closed or being refurbished, and I keep seeing temporary closures, so I am discouraged, and feel that chosing fastpasses 60 days in advance, I am micro planning for no good reason!

...can you tell that I miss the old FP system, where this would be less disappointing? :(

BTW, safety is a total priority to me!...I just see things like Honey I shrunk the Kids playground closed, and am confuzzled!

When you operate this many attractions 365 days a year with short and infrequent periods of refurbishment, it is likely that a handful of rides will break down temporarily from day to day. That said, in the summer, more rides close temporarily than usual because of the afternoon thunderstorms. If there's lightning close by, any outdoor ride is shut down and on the app it shows up as "temporarily closed".

Apparently RnRC went down shortly after we rode it (we rope dropped) and one morning Dinosaur was down when we went to ride it (shortly after rope drop). Winnie the Pooh had to have a malfunctioning pot removed while we were in line then behind us I noticed the line was getting super short, it turned out they closed the line. There were CM's at the entrance informing people the ride was down and asking if anyone had FP for the ride. If they did they were given a FP to come back anytime. While it is not ideal for some touring plans, there was still a benefit to having a FP. We went back, without a FP, later in the day and rode Dinosaur with a 15 minute wait, which was fine with us. Just a couple of minor inconveniences that I had actually forgotten about until I read this post. We still rode everything we wanted to, just not at the initial moment we were planning to and again, those with FP times during the closure were told to come back anytime during the day.

Yes, I understand the outdoor rides being subject to rain!....It just seems like DHS is a hot mess of a park right now, and with tiering, it is confusing to see how to plan FP+, anticipate long waits for which you may not get to ride, and have few non headliners to enjoy.

I actually miss SOUNDS DANGEROUS, but mostly for the Foley stuff and voice over stuff in the room by the exit! I really enjoy many of the lesser attractions, trails at AK, but I am thinking they might be subject to closure too!..

This was our schedule at Hollywood Studios (I have a 13 year old year girl and a 13 year old boy);

Rope drop - RnRC, TOT, Star Tours w/FP, Frozen processional just outside of Star Tours (we knew they would not stop but that was okay), Indiana Jones, Frozen Sing a long w/FP, Lights Motor Action, Toy Story Mania w/FP, meal at Sc-Fi (3:00), Beauty and the Beast, Muppets 3D, The Great Movie Ride w/ 4th FP, Frozen Fireworks, Fantasmic! w/5th FP. Hope that helps a little! We were there July 6, we did not experience any long waits and did everything we wanted to.

We were also there 7/5-7/11 and were surprised how not crowded the parks were for summer. We were right next to the railing at Epcot at the last minute for Illuminations. This has never been the case for 10 yrs. The parks seemed to close earlier too, with MK being open on Friday the 10th till 11pm only. No EMH that week. Are they cutting hrs and are the crowds down or was it my imagination?!

I never understand when people who aren't even at the parks are complaining about temporary closures...makes no sense to me. I would think people have better things to do with their time...but I guess that's just me:)

We had 2 MK days, the first one closed at 1am, the second at midnight. I didn't pay attention much to the EMH but I do know MK had early EMH Thursday the 9th because while we knew we were going to MK that day (it was our last day) we knew we didn't have to rush there for rope drop since we were off site so we enjoyed breakfast at Chef Mickey before going over.

There has been thunderstorms or heavy rain every day we've been here since the 10th. Today is the first day we've felt the parks seemed really crowded(dhs). We've noticed until today that Disney has not been as busy as previous summers. What we don't like is all the regular closures at one time. Mk has been open until midnight and 2 am at the latest.

If you are looking today, it has been wet and raining pretty consistently since at least 10:30 this morning (it is now almost 5)

Temporary closures could be caused by many things, and may last only a few minutes or might be several hours. They might be due to weather They could be due to a mechanical or computer problem. They might be a short stop to allow a Handicapped guest to board or exit a ride. Or they could be due to stupid, dumb stunts by stupid, dumb guests. Like exiting COP while it is in progress. Which requires an emergency stop and a full reset of the program. Non of it is predictable, but none of it should be surprising in a park operating 12-18 hours per day, 365 days a year, with up to 50,000 guests per day. I think the OP needs to spend a lot less time looking at the lines dapp.

Not to sound snarky, but I'm just curious because you seem to know a lot about the parks. Why 363 days instead of 365?

Agreed. My one tip (in light of this) is that if something's important to you, book it on more than one day of your trip (if possible). I had luckily booked SDMT for 2 days of our 6 day trip, because rain prevented us from riding on one of those days. There's no way to even hazard a guess about weather, temporary closures, illness, injury, etc. this far out, so if it's important to you, hedge your bet by booking it more than once. Just a little insurance against life's little inconveniences.

And indeed this is one of the major drawbacks to FP+ in my opinion. You just can predict what will happen on your vacation.

As a PP noted, its a good reason to book 2 of some of your most important FPs ... which is pretty ridiculous in the first place, and actually impossible on shorter trips.

Since we now have to start planning 60 days out, we think of things like this, because MDE shows us this stuff. When I booked my trip 11 months ago, there was no thought of the animation building not existing: it changes things. The trip you booked is not the trip you will have, and I imagine you could see how that could be disheartening. So I am planning how to tour the parks, and found some closures confusing...it was a query, not a complaint, as I go every year, and rarely have noticed 5 things down in the same park at one time, (except when all of DHS went dark during a test phase of FP+.)

As to how I spend my time, perhaps some reflection is order for those who have responded so negatively.:teacher:

I have done the same, it just surprises me to see so many temporary closures at one park at the same time. Thank you for your constructive response!

Respectfully, I think you are over-thinking this a little. Obviously, the major closures at Hollywood Studios necessitate consideration and and everyone needs to decide on their own if the park is worth their vacation time. However, worrying about ride closures due to rain or a maintenance issue is not useful. If a ride goes down would missing that one ride really spoil your trip? Probably not, but obviously everyone has a different opinion. If a ride goes down you always have a chance to replace that fp with another attraction or who the ride reopens later in the day.
