All Stars Room Question

I am wondering, when does one request a room? At the time of reservation or at the time of checking in? Also if you request a ground level room (1st floor), can you sit outside of your room? Are there something like patio doors? Is music really for more adults and why? Thanks for your help.

You should make any requests at the time of your reservation; make sure they're noted on your confirmation when it arrives in the mail.
Requests are simply requests. Disney does its best to grant requests, but the only thing they are required to do is rent you a room at the level for which you have paid.
Value resorts do NOT have patios. The doors open directly to the outside sidewalk or walkway that ALL guests use to get to their rooms. I suppose you could bring chairs from home and sit out on the sidewalk.
ALL Disney resorts are for ALL demographics.

Yes, make your request at the time of reserving your room/package.
When you check-in, ask the CM if your request was noted and
if there's any chance of it being granted?

As kaytieeldr said, there are no patios, only walkways.
When we stayed at ASMo some people on the first floor
did bring their chairs outside of their door to sit (your door is the same
as everyone elses, too, in answer to your question).
We were there during Grad Nights (never again at the All Stars!!),
and the kids had half their rooms all over the walkways.
Was NOT fun coming in late from the parks with a stroller and
sleeping toddler, having to dodge furniture!
Some people also left their strollers outside of their rooms on the first floor,
which we didn't have a problem with because they nicely kept them
close to their door - not on the walkway.
