We are planning our annual Candlelight Processional / pre-Chritmas pilgrimage to Disney World for the first weekend of December. We plan on staying for at least 4 nights. Lodging considerations have come down to the following comparison:

1. Two connecting rooms at the All Star Sports (we are a family of 4) at a grand total of $98/night (+ tax)

2. One two bedroom unit at the Cyress Pointe Grand Villas at $109/night (+ tax)

I would truly appreciate everyone's opinion on which option you believe is most desirable.

Thanks!

I can only speak of Cypress Point GV - stayed there a year ago this week - loved it - we had a 3 bedroom unit thru Hotels.com - $99 a night - it was the 2 bedroom & 1 bedroom with the connecting door unlocked. Plenty of room - no one felt like they were under each others feet. Enjoy!

All Stars = 2 hotel rooms, 4 double beds, 2 bathrooms, 2 little bitty tables & not alot of room to walk around or relax, no where to make snacks/drinks/or even meals, no where to lounge besides the bed, no patio or balcony for fresh air. the only + here to me might be onsight transportation. after sever times of staying at the different All Stars w/ less than adequate cleanliness, I will never stay at the All Stars resorts again.

CP = CLEAN unit, 1 king size bed + 2 twin beds in separate bedroom, a bathroom with tub shower combo, another bathroom w/ walk in shower (possibly for 2) + a jacuzzi tub (possibly for 2), a FULL kitchen, living room w/ couch & 2 wicker cushioned chairs, big screen tv (48' I think, seemed slightly smaller than mine at home) a patio w/ table & 4 chairs (plastic), the only minus here would possibly be no onsight transportation, I personally prefer to drive myself rather than wait on busses & possibly have to stand with what feels like erratic driving & being smooshed by people with strollers & such + crying & wining kids at night. Have stayed at CP 3 times in the past 1 & 1/2 years & will continue to stay as long as I can afford to.

Well, I have a few thoughts on this too.

We stayed in the cabins at FW this summer, and then ended up our trip with 2 nights, 2 connecting rooms at the Pop Century. Now don't take me wrong, I love both of those places, but having just returned from a stay at CPGV, I can say there is truly no comparison for space. Looking back at our trip this summer, I'm thinking it would have been really nice to have had all the room that the villa at CPGV offered--not to mention the jacuzzi tub. The bathroom in the master bath is close to the size of the room at Pop Century--it's huge! And that's just the bathroom!

I love the Disney resorts, but I would have to say for the space, I would stay at the CPGV hands down! Have you thought of looking for this property on Skyauction? I think there are some really good deals to be had there.

Just on a side note, the CPGV is very close to Downtown Disney, and just around the corner from a lot of restaurants (including the $3.99 buffet at Cici's--can you tell I love that place?::yes:: ) I don't think you would go wrong choosing the CPGV, and you will really appreciate that jacuzzi at night after a day of touring!

Good luck!

But my wife and kids like the AS for the transportation and the "Disney experience." That's why I'm asking for others' positions on this. Thanks

I don't know how old your children are, but it may be that the All Star resort is "right down their alley" so to speak. In that case, you're fighting a losing battle. You have said that you will be staying at least 4 nights, so that's why I recommended checking Skyauction. You could get a whole week at CPGV for about the price of 2 nights, 2 rooms at the All Stars. Tell your wife you'll take her somewhere nice for dinner as a trade-off. I just know for the extra $10-11 dollars a night you are talking about spending, it would be much more room at CPGV. This place is really nice!

To sum it up, you may just be outvoted there, but you can always let your wife read the responses here.

Good luck!

Edited to add...

As far as the Disney transportation goes....

I usually drive to the park of my choice. It seems much faster that way. I have an AP, so I don't pay for parking. If you're staying off property and don't have an AP, you'll pay $8 a day to park. Take that into consideration as well.

Weegl, I can feel your pain. :p Or should I say, my DH can.

*I* was the one that felt we had to stay onsite for every trip. (as you can see from my signature below) Then I kept reading on this board and people seemed really happy with being offsite. They certainly saved a lot of money!

We just got back from staying at Vistana (skyauction). We had another week at CPGV(skyauction again), but had to leave because of Frances.

Now, Vistana might be a tad more luxurious, as far as the resort "as a whole", but from reading these boards, I think the condos at CPGV are very similar. I think you would be very happy there. We drove by it and it was pretty and in good condition. It is a much smaller resort than Vistana, but I was actually looking forward to that. Vistana is absolutely HUGE!

And as far as transportation, we used to only use WDW transportation. Then the last time we were onsite, my DH wanted to take our van everywhere because we had an infant (my DS), and also our two other children. Let me tell you, he never wants to take the buses again. He loved not waiting in lines at the end of the day or waiting 10-15 for a bus to take you somewhere and then stopping at other resorts on top of that. All before you even get to the park.

From Vistana, it took us about 12-14 minutes to get to MK, park our car and get to the tram. It took that long waiting for a bus to take us to EPCOT from WL!! I know some have a severe aversion to driving once they get to WDW, and those people should probably stay onsite. But I just don't buy the "transportation perk" arguement anymore..........we prefer NOT to use it.

Maybe they could try offsite this one time to see how they like it. SKyauction has a Ready,Set, Go auction right now that shows availability for CPGV for the week beginning Dec. 3rd, 4th, or 5th. They usually go for$50-60 plus the $210 in fees. THAT'S $260-270 FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK! And if you can only use 5 of those 7 nights, that's OK too. That would still only be about $55 a night.

But if your family still only wants to stay onsite........well, maybe you should stick to that. Only you know your family. :D

Even though our family loves Disney and the Disney hotels, we will never pass on a condo. We love having our own bedrooms, a full size kitchen (even though it's rarely used) and 2 bathrooms.

We loved CPGV this spring!

Just grabbed a skyauction.com week long deal for a 3 bedroom at Silver Lakes Silver Points for $236 for the entire week! Even if we only stay the planned 4 nights...that amounts to only $59/night!!! My wife and kids immediately relented when they saw how big the place is (over 1800 square feet).

I've read enough on these (and other travel review sites) boards to determine it is a quality venue...I'm very excited at saving so much money for what I consider to be a better housing scenario.

Anyone had personal experience with Silver Lakes Silver Points???

Congrats! And Silver Points is one of the places that I have just recently inquired about on these boards. YOU MUST GIVE A FULL REPORT WHEN YOU COME BACK, OK?? :p I just have to know about this place.........PLEASE....................:hyper:

Congratulations again! and have a great time in December.......that's my favorite time of year........:cloud9:
