all star sports-king bed?

I think many people, especially first-timers, don't realize how physically demanding a WDW vacation can be. You are right on the mark with the 8-12 mile experience. That's pretty typical. For folks who lead sedentary lifestyles back home, this comes as a big and uncomfortable surprise.

The two biggest things are getting yourself in some measure of physical condition before your trip. Get up and move. Go for a walk each day.

The other big thing, probably even more important than exercising, is good footwear. That does not mean flip flops. It does not mean heels, ladies. It does not mean Converse All Stars or Keds or any other worthless shoes with no padding or support. Get yourselves a good pair of walking or running shoes. Yes they may set you back $100 or more but you'll be glad you did.

As for me, I've never had a problem with the walking but I stay pretty active. I run 3-4 times a week. In fact, on our next trip in November, DW and I are doing the Give Kids the World Gingerbread Run 5K!
Awesome on the Gingerbread Run, Dr. Steve!! WTG!!

I love that you call them thongs. That's what we always called them growing up. Somewhere along the line, people stopped calling them that and started calling them flip flops. Now a thong is something entirely different.

Understood. Living in a house with two long-haired ladies I know what you mean, though your hair is longer than either of theirs.

Haha, yeah, thongs wouldnt be called anything else here. the kiwi's call them "Jandles" like "Jesus-sandals"
and a thong is a G-string here.

ok, 2 feet might be a slight exaggeration, it's probably 1.5 feet long

Oh yes! I heard Kathy mention is and was meant to say good work!! a runDisney event is the only running event I would consider training for. I'm more of a crossfitter who likes to lift heavy stuff and do the gymnastic moves

the issue I have is incredibly sore tops of my feet, like, where the bones and tendons run. they ache.
I've had something similar when wearing new pumps/low heel dress shoes for the first few days. Its as if the top of my feet are straining to get used to wearing the new shoes. Very achy and painful but in about a week, it seems to go away. Can you break in your New Balance supportive runners by doing at least a half hour fast walk during your lunch break for a good week or two before your WDW vacation? Maybe just to get those muscles in the top of your feet used to the shoes and walking hard in them. You also mentioned Sketchers. I know they are really popular with DISers on the boards. They just wouldn't give me enough support so I wouldn't go with those. However, I did pick up a pr for my youngest niece last Spring and noticed they are incredibly light so I suppose a trade off. Good luck!

Oh I already own the new balance sneakers and wear them most days to work (its all part of that athletic clothing as regular fashion thing that's huge at my office, being in fashion and all) so they're well and truly worn in. and as I mentioned, I'd hope to get the sketchers about 6 months out so I can wear them in.
I think because I'm so heavy footed, and stomping around on pavement all day is where I get the issues.
