We are planning a quick 5 day trip in October because I can't wait until our next planned trip in June 2003. We want to try and stay cheap this time...have been to GF, POFQ, and BC in the past and was wondering how dissapointed we will be with the All Star resorts. Any thoughts appreciated...we will probably want to use the pools too.
Thanks in advance

I think All Stars is fine for the price. We like getting two rooms for our family of five, and it's great having the extra space. The pools are nice - big and fine for swimming with themes but nothing fancy - no slides, hot tubs. The food courts are terrific and there's lots of Disney touches everywhere. Bus service was always pretty good.

That being said, if I was going without kids, I wouldn't stay there unless I was really trying to save money. I would try hard to save a bit more or find a good deal and stay at a moderate. The themeing is bright, bold and cheery. I feel like I'm sleeping in a carnival.

The all stars are great for quick trips with or without kids. We usually stay at the Boarwalk Villas/one bedroom or AK Lodge, we have also stayed at all the other deluxes.

We have stayed at AS Sports 4 times this past year, and we are going back again next weekend. It is great...probably the best laid out resort on disney property, very convenient to everything. Even if you are in the furthest building back, you are no more than a couple minute walk to everything. It is great. The pools are fine. Large enough not to be over crowded. The food court has some wonderful items on the menu I am addicted to the made to order pasta (penne with chicken and asiago cheese..yummy).

Going twice in one year...do you have an annual pass? You should be able to get a great rate in October with an annual pass...as well as for your other trip!

ps...hubby was a little disappointed the first time we stayed..it was only for one night...just for the Halloween Party at MK...so he didn't really give it a chance. When we went back for a long weekend he changed his mind..after he saw what a convenient resort it was.

You will be fine as long as you don't compare it to the GF!!!!
We've stayed at ASMo and CBR. The room at CBR was much nicer, but the pool and such were about the same. The slide at CBR was nothing to write home about. The food court at ASMo was much better. It's just a plain, small hotel room. We had two rooms, so it didn't seem as small, but we were just fine. Given the choice of staying there or staying home..........
Relax- I think you will love it. We are staying at AKL in August and I know I will have trouble going back to a moderate, but not the AS. You are there to save money and you do just that!

I can only compare to Shades of Green (which supposedly have the largest rooms on premises). After paying the same price for 2 All Star rooms as 1 SOG room, I have to go with All Stars.

CLEAN
BIG ENOUGH (definitely for 2 people - even 4 IMHO)
EXCELLENT POOLS
EXCELLENT FOOD COURTS
LOTS OF ENERGY

As long as you don't expect it to be a GF, Poly, or WL,
you'll have a great time.

We also love the All Star resorts. We have stayed at Poly (concierge level) Port Orleans French Quarter and Dixie Landings when it was Dixie Landings. We actually liked all Star Movies better than the Poly! The bus service was great and the food court is huge, with many choices. We prefer the food court there to the one at Dixie and PO, many more choices. We booked a trip in 99 without the kids and stayed two nights at ASmo and then switched to Dxl because we were nervous about the All Star hotels. After moving, we had wished we didn't bother to go through the hassle of switching. The bus service at DxL was awful. We are planning another trip without the kids this Dec, and wanted to save money (we go every other year with our two boys and like to really splurge on those trips) so we booked a room at ASMo again. For us, it just makes more sense since we don't like to spend a lot of $$ when the kid's are not with us. Still, we love being on property and close to everything. If it was a choice between AS resorts or off-site, I wouldn't think twice about All Stars. We love them. We are planning on doing a couple of nights there with the kid's next year, just so we can extend our trip by a few days, and give them a chance to see all the huge characters. I know they will love them!

ContempoSMT and I will be staying at All Star Sports tomorrow! We will be back on July 2nd. Ill be sure to report my opinions when I return!

I have said it before and will say it again, IMHO the value resorts with a discount are the BEST deal to be had at WDW. For the price I love them! I also like the other WDW resorts and have stayed in almost everyone with my favorite our DVC home at BWV. But we will often check out of BWV for Fri & Sat nights to save the ridiculous weekend pts and we stay at a value resort, the are wonderful. The rooms are not as nicely decorated as a moderate resort but there is not too much difference, the size difference is minimal, the value resorts have better food courts and they have the BEST bus service out of all the WDW resorts.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I went ahead and booked the ASmusic today.. I wanted the ASMovies but they were full already.. It will be me, DD age 7 and my Mom age 72. I asked for non-smoking room 1st floor close to the buses and food court. My Mom will have a motorized scooter because she can't walk long distances and I told him that as well. We used the scooter last year and it was great!!! We used Walker and had no troubles. We are planning to get AP's this time, I always regret not getting them after we decide to add on another trip each year. So this year we are going for it!!!! Any other things I should know or request for? Specific building? Room? ETC? Thanks

ALLSTAR MOVIES for us, Will be staying at Movies for nine nights in Aug. This will be the second time at Movies for us. Great food court, try the prime rib...... 31 days left . WDW 4 us........CBR 99 Allstar Movies Feb2001 Allstar Music Aug 2001......

I've stayed at ASMo 3 times (each a week long visit). It is a real bargain, however, it is not a hotel with a lot of extras. The rooms are clean and a nice size for my family of 3. Last Jan, the resort was at full capacity and was very crowded. We stayed in Toy Story (had a view of the courtyard) It was very noisy until after 11 pm every night. People used the courtyard to smoke(even though it is a smoke free section-guess that's why they were outside) talk on cell phones, play, etc. The food court is really, really busy in the am. I happen to have a rambunctious 5 year old who fits into this scenario quite well--I felt out of place at the Grand Flo with a little one. I would imagine that if you didn't have children you would find it to be #@%& on earth!
I really go back and forth on this-- we have been able to get our room for as little as $49. I would not be willing to pay more than $65 for ASMo. The hotel is clean, and it is full of Disney Magic!
It just depends on what is suitable for you family.

We are planning a stay at ASMo this Nov., and I am excited. The rooms maybe small BUT how long are you planning on actually being in the rooms???? :D Plus, having stayed at Dixie Landings, I am looking forward to seeing the oversized characters. I think it will seems more like a big playland (which is what WDW is to my kids and to me too). It will seem a little more magical. And we can take to money we saved and use it on character breakfasts, etc. It just depends on if your going to park hop all the time or going to be in the rooms alot really. But I don't feel like we will be disappointed. If it is clean and it has a bed & bathroom, we are happy.
