All-Star Resorts for couples ... Headache or happiness?

Hi Luv2Roam,

So glad to hear that you really enjoyed your AS stays! I'd love to try a moderate or deluxe sometime in the future, but there's something really fun and "Disney-like" about staying at a heavily themed resort with lots of little kids running around -- turbo toliets and all! ;-)

You sound like you have realistic expectations regarding the resort so you should be fine. If you prefer a more adult atmosphere the convention hotels are great. I love Coronado Springs for that reason. I felt like I was able to get away from people while I was there.

I jist wanted to add that the AS can be romantic.

When we went ( before kids) we had a room with a king size bed. The room had a mini fridge, and as another poster mentioned no tub, but a huge shower . It technically was a HC accessable,---the whole Bathroom tiled and a showerhead sticking out of the wall, behind a huge shower curtained area and a drain right in the floor. Plenty of room !

We did the parks comando style, never even came back to the room all day. We left at just about dawn and came back close to midnight, so I can't coment on if there ware a ot of kid noise during the day. We were surprised to see kids up "so late" in the pools on our way back, but that was before we had kids, so we didn't know any better ( I didn't know my children would stay up late, get up early, and need no naps too So be careful what you think about others kids, it may come back and bite ya)

We just wanted a place on disney property so we could take advantage of the transporation system. So we were happy with the room. We also didn't have a problem with the room size, but that could be because there were only the two of us, hardly in the room, and the king bed. Maybe you could splurge the extra $10 a day for the king room if you want to spice it up?

I think too that you might find the time of year you are going that there most likely will be fewer children than in the summer months. The end of September most schools have been in session just a few weeks, so not too many people will taking their children out of school.
In '99 we went the last week of September into the first week of October, the year that the Millenium celebration started and it really was not that bad, the parks were not crowded at all .
I am going to be staying in the ASMU myself in September and I can not wait. My first trip on site was at the ASSP, since then I have stayed at the GF, the YC and WL, but I know I will enjoy my stay at the ASMU and I am sure you will too!

That's exactly what I wanted to hear! We mused about the vacation week for a long time before settling on 9/28 - 10/5. We figured it was the perfect time to go because school's back in session, we'd beat the crowd before Columbus Day, and hopefully the weather won't be so brutally hot and humid!

My fiance and I were in the same situation last July. We were both 25 and took our first trip together, a budget trip. We stayed at ASM for 3 nights. We asked for a king size bed and got it so that was nice. The room was clean and the decor was very cute. The food court had some good choises and we had no problems with the busses. I will say that the pool was always crowded, no matter what time it was, also, it got a little loud in the mornings when people were walking by our room. But I also have to add, we spent our first five nights at OKW because we were able to rent points for cheap from someone. I think that by going from one of the deluxe resorts to a value resort made us notice all the little things. We kind of knew what we were missing. But, we still had a great time at ASM .

Just a note about the kids up late - remember the time zone differences. My kids go to bed at 9:00 on school nights, but stay up later if we let them. In Florida, this will mean they would stay up until 11:00 PM Not that we plan on letting them run around making noise at that hour. Our bigger concern is going to be getting them up almost 4 hours earlier than normal to get to the parks when they open!!

We're hoping the excitement will get them up on the first day, then they'll be tired enough to go to bed that night at a decent hour, local time

I'm sure this is even more of an issue for people from the mid-west or west coast.

We stayed at the All-Stars twice as a couple, last time about 6 years ago. we had a great time! It was nice to not have to worry about stretching our budget and the All-stars fit our budget and even allowed us some extra money for some treats like dinners, Pleasure Island etc...

Both times we stayed at the ASSp in the Touchdown building it was nice, clean and we even got a fridge for free the first trip. We were hardly in the room and spent the entire trip running from one park to another so it was perfect as a place to crash at night.

My thoughts exactly! I was looking through my ATP last night at all of the amazing dining choices, and although my head was swimming when I saw some of the prices ($42 for lobster?!) my tummy was already grumbling with delight! I'd much rather save up for romantic dinners rather than spend more money on romantic views at our resort. Where's dessert? ;-)
