We are planning a trip for Nov/Dec 2022. The week after Thanksgiving. We have never stayed at All Star Music but the renovated family suites look really nice. Our other choice is Shades of Green where we have stayed before. Any thoughts on the ASM family suites? How is the food court at ASM? It might be too cold for swimming so the pools should be fine. Has anyone stayed at both? We have stayed at POR, French Quarter, AoA, Shades of Green, and Treehouse Villas. I've read a few negative comments about the All Stars resorts and don't want to make the wrong choice. We haven't been in several years.

Having stayed at both, it really comes down to a couple of things. 1. Price. I'm assuming there's a pretty decent price difference here, probably enough to justify 2 rooms at SOG vs 1 family suite. 2. Location. AS resorts are pretty far from most everything. Will you have a car? SOG is easier to get to and from things by walking to the poly or now you can actually walk all the way to MK (cutting through GF), I think someone timed it and it was around 30 minutes. 3. How much is having a separate bedroom and 2 baths worth and what is the make up of your family? Do you need all 3 beds in each room? Although the layouts are different, you only gain about 40 sq ft in the family suite. Both are recently updated. 4. We hate the food at the all stars, BY FAR, the worst food on property. The food at SoG is pretty good for what we had, mostly evergreens. But it's a easy walk to the poly or GF for a lot more choices. Lastly, I know you mentioned the pool. Obviously SoG wins by a landslide here and there's a good (75%) chance it will be warm enough to go swimming so I wouldn't completely rule that one out. Also SoG qualifies for the evening extended hours and ASM does not. I don't think you can make a bad choice here, honestly. Both are nice resorts that have been recently updated, it just comes down to which one feels like it will best fit your family and what are you willing to give up to get it.

I thought the ASMu Suites were great even before the refurbishment. We stayed in them in 2010-ish. Now...they look AMAZING! We're booked into them for April 2022. Love the CMs at Music. I like that I can easily get to Movies or Sports if I want to go to their food courts or pools. Never had a problem with buses. Hope you have a great trip no matter where you stay.

Is it the choices in the All Star food courts that you dislike or is it poorly made in your opinion? Bad food could definitely be a deal breaker. We will have a car but I don’t want to drive to MK.

The kids are huge toy story fans so being able to walk to ASMovies is a plus.

The quality. I have NEVER sent back an item but I did here. It was completely inedible. I think it was like chicken parm or something italian and it was absolutely awful. I got a slice of pizza instead and it was edible I suppose but it wasn't good. And I'm not talking like, oh, it's themepark pizza what did you expect.....I'm talking just plain ole not good pizza, not even on par with pizzafari pizza. I'm trying to remember what everyone else had and no one liked their meals and it was all pretty simple stuff.

The Toy Story section is cute at ASMo but it's probably not likely that you will walk over to ASMo everyday to go see it, if you even make it over there at all. Do you have a resort day built in? If so, that would be a fun resort day to look around at the different themes. Is AoA family suite an option? That would put you more in the center of things and is a really fun hotel for kids. Plus the food is much much better.

I actually would rather stay at any All Stars resort than stay at Shades of Green. A few years ago, my sisters and husband, and I shared a room at All Stars Music and we really liked it. I planned on being dissapointed by the cleanliness of rooms, staff, and food, but all were great.
One main perk is the transportation--which Shades of Green just doesn't do well in my opinion. My husband and I often end up walking to and from the Poly to get on their busses or the monorail, depending on which park we are going to for the day--it really is faster most of the time.
Plus, I've stayed at Shades of Green a handful of times and have had several problems with each stay...from the checkpoints to hotel staff putting 6 people in a room with a broken toilet...and not fixing it. Hope this helps you decide!

How were the buses to MK? Did ASMu share with the other all stars and if so were they super crowded?

Hmmm...we haven't stayed at Shades...yet - since there's no more magical express we plan on staying there for the foreseeable future. From what I can tell and been told Shades seems to be deluxish - I'd say in between a Disney moderate and Disney delux resort for basically a value price. If that's accurate then we'd definitely choose Shades.

If I remember correctly...it has been a few years...the busses were shared but I don't remember them being too crowded. I went to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom that trip (rope dropping both and Flight of Passage was new) and didn't have any issues.
