I just came back from my Disney trip yesterday. Had a rough start to the trip....first impression of the resort....honestly I didn't care for it. It seemed more dated than the other all stars. I love all other values, but this one did nothing for me. That was my first impression anyway. My first night at music I woke up all excited to start my day. I started off with a shower....as I step out of the shower I look over to the bed to discover a bug on the sheet! I freaked out a bit, but after calming down, I snapped a pic and showed the front desk manager on my way out. Prior to that, i tried to trap the bug under the plastic cup they provide, but no luck. So on my way out I spoke to a manager and they said they'd investigate and get back to me. I went along my merry way to MK, excited about the opening ceremony.

As I get off the bus at MK, just before the opening ceremony, the manager calls me. I honestly didn't think it was bed bugs....never saw one before so I wouldn't know. But yep, its bed bugs! I honestly never thought i'd come across those suckers in my life, since im the type that checks the mattress, sheets, etc. I did a thorough check! Clearly not good enough though. Where do they hide? I don't get it. I was devastated, grossed out, etc. You have no idea. This explains the bites on my legs...I thought it was from mosquitoes! What a sad way to start my vacay.

The manager was very kind though, she granted my request to be moved to another resort (sports). They sent in all my stuff for "treatment" and tried to make the rest of my stay as magical as possible. The manager was really great. No complaints there.

The only good thing that came out of all this was that at least now I know what these suckers look like! And im grateful I saw this on my first night, or at all! Imagine if I hadn't seen the bug and suffered all week with bites and such, and even took one of these suckers home with me?

Just beware folks...check mattresses and furniture carefully. Heck, I thought i was careful but clearly I suck at checking for bed bugs. :(

These things do happen, and it can happen at any resort for sure. Most of you who remember my posts know that i've always been all gung-ho about the value resorts...I still am. Im hardly in the room so to me it makes no sense to pay for a pricier resort. I'll continue to stay at values (and at times the moderates). I'll just have to educate myself a little more on how to properly check for bed bugs. Just wanted to share my experience with others. If you have any questions let me know.

Here is what they look like! Yuck!

This was me trying to be clever and trap the bug so that I can bring a manager back to my room to show them...but no luck. I couldn't find a contraption heavy enough to trap that sucker. It escaped. :(

Wow, at least you caught it the first day. Seriously, I would have probably just flicked it off the bed and not thought a thing about it since I thought bed bugs were much smaller than that. Thanks for the picture, now I know what to look for.

I absolutely hate bugs, im seriously terrified of them. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would be a bed bug. Not sure why I thought that? I guess I had the silly mentality that "it cant happen to me" because I checked the beds and everything looked fine?? Boy, was I wrong! It was quite a stressful ordeal, let me tell you. Yes im glad I caught it the first night! And im glad disney has a great system in place for treating guests clothing/personal belongings!

I don't see a picture.

It is not 100% true that bed bugs are only in the beg. They can be on the walls, furniture, bedding, in any little crack that a piece of paper can be stuck into. they have a much harder time moving across some materials but can be found pretty much anywhere.

I had them in my first NYC apartment and it was one of the worst experience. 2 of my friends have had them in the last year and I am always worried of getting them again. It has been over 7 years since I dealt with them and I still hate the idea of getting them again.

Had them at Pop last year. Didn't find til last night. It was a mess and a hassle. It Disney made it right and we didn't bring them home. I've read they can crawl in your luggage on a plane. So we never bring a thing into the house. Clothes go straight into washer and dryer and luggage gets bagged up and out in extreme heat or cold for weeks. Luckily we don't travel often. Lol.

Wow, I am really sorry you had to go through that. I am terrified of this very thing - I check like a madman when we get to the resort but inevitably, as soon as the lights go off that 1st night I am a nervous wreck. Like you, I am terrified of bugs and the thought of these things makes my blood run cold.

No pic here either, too bad because I'd really like to see what they look like.
They can be at any resort, value to deluxe. Your luggage can get infested at the airport, they stack up the luggage, and who knows how many bags yours was in contact with. I think I heard you can get a plastic wrap/bag protector for luggage.

You can. I've seen quite a few bags all wrapped up. Took me ages to figure out they were to protect against bed bugs.

I was hoping to see the picture too. I've never seen them in a room, knock on wood

See if this works...

Ugh. Last time we stayed at PoR I woke up with odd bites on my shoulder. I tore everything apart but didn't find anything. It was still heavy in mosquito season so I just chalked it up to that because everyone else in our room was biteless. I'm still not convinced though...:magnify::scratchin:scared:

I've seen this type of photo. It's one the PP took of what they found in their room I was hoping to see. Something must have looked quite different about it
I cant see the picture either and would like to see what the one in the room looked like. I know they do change as they go though different stages when they grow. We have never had any and I fear them.

Sorry I'm using my phone. Kinda hard to insert pics properly. Here's the second pic of me trying to trap the nasty bed bug. Didnt work. It escaped.

Yep can see the photos and that is definitely a bed bug that has fed. Sorry you had to experience that.

I want to cry. Thats the most horrifying experience for someone who is as afraid of bugs as I am. It makes me never want to travel again. :(
