We just got back from All Star Music. I will be happy to answer any questions.

I am not familiar with the layout there. Do I need to request to be close to the bus or food court?

In MY opinion (i say this knowing many people will disagree), I think staying in the prefered building is worth the extra money. But we had a large group with small children and with some members having health problems, so the shorter walk the better. The prefered buildings are the Calypso buildings (which are the closest to the food court, bus stop, arcade, etc). We had a view of the pool (which was great). The next building down (which would be regular prices) is the Jazz Inns, you can request that. That is as close as you can get whichout paying extra.

How was everything?
We stayed in Calypso (three nights) last month and are set for ASMu for eight nights in January.
What was your bus experience?
We didn't use th bus service last month. But from what we saw it appeared to be running fine.

Everything was EXCELLENT!!! Our maid always did something funny with my kids teddy bears, not to mention kept our room in excellent shape cleaning up our endless mess and always making sure we had plenty of extra towels. Most of our requests were met (we had 12 in our group, so we had alot of request amongst us).
It didn't seem overly crowded and we nevered waited for a bus for more than ten minutes (if that). And we should know because we didn't get back in our car until check-out time. We park hopped for four days.

I didn't pay for preferred can you give me your take on the next best building?

I will have a car.....Are the parking lots very far away? The distance to the MK is about how far distance and time wise from the Music?

Buildings with the best location to a bus stop?

Thanks PattyN

Next closest to the front is Jazz.
And really, if a guest had the furthest end in Calypso, it would only be a few steps difference than the closest end of Jazz.
My guess is everyone now requests Jazz since they have to pay more for Calypso. ;)
For our October stay, we paid the extra $10 a night for Calypso. And we had a good location.
Some friends we were vacationing with were in the Broadway building. We walked back there quite a bit, as they had a car.
It really wasn't that far of a walk. It looks worse on a resort map than it really is.
We are chancing our location in Janaury and I really am not worried about it.
The Calypso building is very convenient. But unless you really want that building or have health issues, I probably wouldn't worry about it.
The further back you go into the ASMu, the quieter it is. And there is a nice quiet pool towards the back, near Broadway.

This is true. The next to closest building is the Jazz Inn. I really didn't pay any attention to how the parking went beyond where we parked, which was directly behind our building.
As far as noise, we had the pool view (which rumor has it that you hear the most noise) and I was extremely worried (as we have a lite sleeper in our crowd). We never had a problem. In fact, I don't recall hearing any outside noise at all. And we had our kids in bed by 10pm each night.
And our pool (which it probably just depends on the season you are going) was practicely empty. The most people I saw in it our whole stay was around twenty.
And I really didn't notice that much difference in bus riding time from one park to another. None of them seemed that long.

Minnie's Pal -- lol Which room did you have? ;) Ours was 501.
We also had pool view, and we thought -- Oh great -- Pool noise. (As the pool was busy and music was blaring. Columbus Day weekend, and everything was busy.)
But the front was well insulated. Once the main door was shut, any outside noise was gone. (We were impressed. :) )
Being one of the closest, and probably one of the busiest buildings, the rooms surrounding us gave off the usual shower/tiolet flushing noises in the morning. Nothing terrrible. But probably the noisest room we have had at WDW. That isn't saying much. Up until then, all the rooms we have stayed in have been VERY quiet.
We were on the second floor, which made a difference on the noise factor. We were hoping for the third (top) floor. But oh well.
We really enjoyed ASMu and are looking forward to our return stay! :)

we stayed in the broadway section in september on our honeymoon. we loved it back there...yes, it was a bit of a walk to the food court, but we had a pool within steps of our building! our room overlooked the "street" between the 2 broadway buildings...if i were staying at the ASMu again, i would rather be in the broaday section...it's very quiet...and we were close to the parking lot. we had a car with us and drove everywhere instead of using the bus. it was just quicker for us...
