We just got back from our stay at All Star Music. Though it was supposed to be a short Valentine's Day trip, we got stuck there another 3 days because of the snow and DC airport closings. Overall we liked the hotel, though we did have some problems.
We arrived at the hotel a little before 3pm on 2/13 and checked-in. We had a preferred room reserved and were given a room in building 10 on the 3rd floor, facing the pool (room 660). We went straight to our room to drop off our bags before heading out to the parks and we immediately noticed that the room smelled strongly of paint. We assumed it had just been repainted and turned the AC as low as possible, hoping to get rid of some of the smell by the time we came back. Well, we got back that night around 11pm and not only did the room still smell, but it was not cold so apparently the AC didn't work too well. So we called the front desk and asked if they had another room we could move to and we were told to call back the next day. Since that meant sleeping in a freshly painted room (which I don't even do in my own home, I stayed in a hotel last time it was painted to avoid the fumes) we told them it wasn't acceptable. They then said it was the only room available and we could not move until the next day. We were going to go to the front desk to ask in person but wanted to clean out our refillable mugs first. While I was doing this, my fiancé said he couldn't find the tv remote so I looked in the drawers and found the remote and hotel info in one drawer and then found the previous guest's clothes and feminine hygience products left in other drawers. This was even more unacceptable than the paint odor since we now were not sure that the room had really been cleaned since the last guest had checked out.
We went down to the front desk, explained all of this and they somehow managed to find out another room in building 1 on the 3rd floor facing the parking lot/***. Well we took it for the night but were told that if we came back in the morning there would be pool view rooms available. We went to that room and it smelled of smoke. Even though it was a no smoking room, it was in the smoking building so I guess the previous guest felt they could smoke in it anyway. I have asthma and many allergies so staying in this room wasn't going to work, but since it was now almost 1am we decided to stay for the night and move the next day.
The next morning, the CM we got was less than helpful. She said the only room was the one we had moed out of with the paint smell, clothes, and personal items. We asked for another room and she refused to look anymore and said that was it.
We came back later that day, around 3pm, and a very nice CM, Rob, got us a pool view room in the same building on the same floor. It smelled like a hotel, just as it should, no smoke or paint, and had a great view too. He also got us our same room back even though we had checked out on Monday when we found out we would not be able to leave until Thursday night.
So other than the initial problems with our room, we enjoyed our stay. We had stayed at the other All Stars before but never Music, and we chose it this time because we could only get a preferred room anyway and the regular rooms can be quite a hike at Music. My recommendation to anyone would be to check with several CMs if you have a problem since you never know what the next person might be able to do for you.
