Question about the AS Movies preferred buildings/rooms. I know they have 3 preferred buildings, Fantasia, Dalmations, and Toy Story. I'm wondering if every single room in those buildings is preferred...I'm booked at Pop but I'm considering changing to Movies, but I would only do it if I could stay in the Fantasia building or the Dalmations building. I have no interest in Mighty Ducks or that Love Bug theme. The only reason I would be changing is the theme, I LOVE Fantasia, and if I couldn't get that I would settle for Dalmations, but I'm not paying more for a preferred room. I was kind of hoping they would have some rooms that are in those buildings that are just standard. Anyone know? Thanks! :)

I am 100% certain that all Fantasia rooms are preferred, and 90% that all Dalmations and Toy Story are preferred. The reason I'm only 90% certain is because last time we were at ASMo we were in Dalmations in a standard room, yet I've heard from many people that they have since changed it so that all rooms are preferred except for Mighty Ducks and Love Bug. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news..

That's ok, I was just curious! I think it's kinda lame that they have 3 buildings that are preferred but whatever! I'll probably just stay in Pop, I was just considering moving to Movies because I'm obsessed with Fantasia!

At the All Star resorts preferred has to do with building location(ie: closer to the front of the resort) not the room itself. All the rooms are pretty much the same standard or preferred.

Yes, all the rooms in Fantasia, Dalmatians, and Toy Story (six buildings total, out of the ten at All Star Movies) are Preferred.

Why?

Well, Preferred rooms are, as ajleone states, based on location. For the longest time, only the two Fantasia buildings were Preferred. Informed Guests realized that because of the way ASMovies is laid out, Toy Story and Dalmatians are just about as close to Cinema Hall, the themed pool, and the buses, as Fantasia - but $10 per night cheaper... so were requesting those sections SO frequently that Disney wised up.

Here's some info I've posted before regarding standard sections in ASMovies and it might help some budget-minded folks...

Mighty Ducks buildings are priced as standard, but are actually much closer to the main building/food/busses at ASMusic than those same things at Movies. There are walkways too. As you approach Mighty Ducks from the main building at Movies, the MD pool is in the middle of the 2 MD buildings. Music's main building is directly behind this. Use the resort tab at the top of this page to check out the map of all of the All-Stars and you will see what I'm talking about. The lower left-hand corner of that map shows how all three All-Stars are arranged in relation to each other. With Mighty Ducks, you can get a standard-price room with your own pool and laundry, yet still be within "preferred" distance to food and busses at Music.

I understand you are 'obsessed' with Fantasia...but the rooms themselves aren't themed like it.

We had hoped to stay at POP but they were booked so my DH took ASMo and we'll be there in August.

Why not just visit the Resort for pics and so on?

We stayed at movies last september in a preferred room in the second Fantasia building. We had a corner room on the first floor close to the pool. It was, what our family thought, the perfect room. Close to the food court, pool, laundry, and bus stops...but far enough away from the pool to not be kept awake from swimmers late at night. After walking around the ground of ASmovies we felt that it was really important to make sure if we stay here again we spend the little extra for the preferred room. It can be along walk from some of the other buildings.

If I were you I would call to find out because I'm pretty sure Dalmatians and Toy Story have standard rooms. There was a shift in the "preferred room" locations. I thought some Fantasia rooms were changed to standard.

Pop changed some 60s rooms to standard and some 70s and 50s to preferred.

I have no hard proof of this.
