Help me out, please!

I've worn the same brand of bra for ages now, but Victoria's Secret changed how they are made, and it's really not comfortable any more. I haven't bra shopped in so long that I have no idea what might be comfortable, not hideously ugly, etc. I tried getting some at Target, but they really didn't fit well. So, rather than spending a ton of time and money searching, I'll just poll the ladies of the DIS!

What have you found that fits well, is somewhat comfortable, and isn't going to require I get another job or mortgage the house? :) If it helps, I need a 38DD, and really like the microfiber ones.

Thanks everyone!

Jen

I love the brand they sell at Lane Bryant--Cacique. I'm not actually plus size-clothing wise, but after years of Victoria Secret, discovering the bras at LB made me what a REAL well-fitted bra feels like.

And they have really nice sales a couple of times a year.

I've had good luck at Kohl's. I usually just try a bunch on the racks and find a few that I like.

I'm the same size and have had great luck at Kohl's.

I like and only wear Bali. They are stretchy in the cups and feel comfortable yet they hold the girls in. I don't know the name of the kind I love, but they look like they have flames embroidered into the lower cup areas. I think they are kin to having flames painted on a car.

I try to buy them onlien or at the outlet or on sale at Macy's as the size I wear (close to yours, OP) is about $30 a pop without discounts.

Did you try on other styles from Victoria's Secret? Go in the store and get the box of try on bras in your size. I only found 2 out of the whole box that I liked, but they fit great (and I'm pretty close in size to you a 36DD)

I had a hard time finding bras at Target that would give me lift without pushing them out since the girls changed after breast feeding.

ETA: I have the Body By Victora Full Coverage Uplift and the ipex lined full coverage ones if that helps at all. I also don't have problems with the VS bra straps falling like I do with other brands. Seems like I'm always pushing the straps back up with the Target ones I have.

I really like the DKNY bra I have, but if your a 38DD I don't know if they make it in that size, at least not in the stores... you could try online though!

I'm smaller than you but I love barely there bras. They are so comfortable.

Wacol brand at Macy's. They are a little pricey $50 or so a piece. But my last two lasted over a year. and they are comfy and pretty! We're about the same size and its so hard to find ones that are both of those things.

And they are made in the USA!

I like Wacol bras too. But when I'm tight on money, I will buy Lilyette or Bali. They have full figure styles too. I am about the same size as you, and I find the bras to be very comfortable. Just last week, I took advantage of a buy 2, get one free sale. I think it is still going on. The bras are $30-$38 each, so it isn't that bad.

I have found really good luck with Ambrielle (I think that's how you spell it..) bras from JcPenney's. They hold up really well!

OT but they changed their underwear ( which I did not know) and I got a bunch for Christmas. I was loyal to VS but I hate their underwear now...:sad2:

I love Khol's for bras! This is the one I wear and it's by warner's style- #1598

I LOVE it! I am a 34DD but can also wear a 36D in this style :) Sooooo comfy!

And they were on Clearance for $9 on Saturday so I got 4 new ones:thumbsup2

This is such a timely thread for me!! I am in desperate need of new bras, I think I am going to have to go get fitted.

Right now I am in a 40DD, but my body has really changed lately. The band and straps are now too big, so I need to go down a band size, but the girls no longer fit in the DD cups, I need to go up!

I think I am going to head over to Lane Bryant and see if they have a good fitter-person. Has anyone had a fitting done there? How nekkid do I have to get, lol?

Found this in the LA TIMES!! :goodvibes

Hints from Heloise
The Basics of the Bra

Dear Ladies: Are you wearing the same BRA SIZE you did five or 10 years ago? Have you had children, changed weight and lost or gained muscle tone? Get a tape measure and follow these directions:

To get the BAND size, measure your rib cage (snugly) just under your bust, then add 5 inches to this measurement, and if the number is an odd number, add 1 so you have an even-number BAND size.

For the CUP size, measure the fullest part of your bust with your bra on. If the measurement is 1 inch more than the band size (before you rounded up to an even number), you wear an "A" cup, 2 inches is a "B" cup, 3 inches is a "C" cup and so on.

Remember that an underwire provides good support, and stretch straps work best for sloping shoulders.

Use these as a general guide. Always try on a bra before buying, since size and fit vary between different styles and brands. Try on several until you find the perfect fit. If one cup size doesn't work for you, buying a larger size does not always mean a better fit, since it may cause the bra to ride up in the back. Use these hints every so often to make sure you are wearing the right bra size for a perfect, comfortable fit. -- Heloise

P.S. Buy the best quality you can afford -- you're worth it!

Passion for Comfort is the name of the Bali I like it comes in minimizer and it isunderwired but it does not painful since it is double wrapped. I Pay 15,oo when they are on sale or at the outlet store. Check on line they are always having a sale .They retail for 30. They are the same thing as the Bali Platnum available only at Macys for 50. All they did was add a small piece of lace on the upper part of the cup and it "changed" the design since they gave Macy's the exclusive on the Platenum.

After trying every brand and stly out there over the changeing sizes of the girls I found the best thing next to nothing; Breezies. I bought the style that does not have underwire. It was a two pack with nude and beige. I think I saw them recently in nude and Peach.

They run true to size, what you genreally buy without ride up, digger or sweating under the band. There is a wicking away.
I need over the shoulder boulder holders anymore.
the material is great and the shape they give make me feel reduced with out smouching. very enhancing shape.
I think the two pack was $33

Is this the line on QVC?? :surfweb:

OP, I just wanted to say that I loved VS too. I got a giftcard for Christmas because my Aunt knows I love the store, and I couldn't find anything to spend it on. I tried at least 20 bras and it seems like they've changed their whole store! As if it wasn't annoying enough to battle the 15yos and their boyfriends in the doorway to even get in the store, I couldn't find anything that fit right.

I need to do a new measuring.
