Well, I had almost completed my mini trip report from Carlisle last night. But my mom had asked me to look something up for her and I forgot to open another window and lost all my work! ARGH!
So where was I?
So I took my mini breakfast back to the room to tell Eric they had bagels and stuff and for him to go pick out what he wanted. The filled donut was filled with this amazing cream! OMG! It was so good! I could have a thousand of them. The glazed donut was good also. The biscuits were ok, a wee bit dry, and lacked some flavor. They definately needed butter.
After that Eric and I headed back to the breakfast area. They had places the sausages out, but no eggs. So I grabbed us 2 sausages. Eric toasted himself a bagel. I grabbed a jelly filled donut and a cherry danish, 2 yogurt (I actually thought one was one of those cottage cheese with fruit things), and some mixed fruit. Eric got himself a cup of tea (it was dark and red, but I don't know what kind it was) and I got me another cup of OJ. I took the tea and a plate of food back to the room (the breakfast area was so busy). And went back for the eggs. I waited for the eggs and finally they came out. When I returned to the room, Eric was already there eating. The first thing out of his mouth was that the eggs tasted weird. Well, I made myself a sandwich with a biscuit, egg, and sausage. I chomped down on it and... it was weird. I don't know what it was. The egg went in the garbage. The sausage was good though... I don't even like sausage. The jelly donut was raspberry, but it was more like jello with raspberry seeds, not very good. The danish wasn't good either. Eric didn't comment on his bagel and it was gone before I got to the room, so he musta liked it.
After breakfast, I jumped into the shower since I wanted to straighten my hair. It takes forever you know. So I did. The shower had one of those curved curtain rods, very nice. Made it seem like there was so much more room there. It also had a massaging shower head. Eric took a shower after me. I tried to blow dry my hair, but it was just too humid and/or the blow dryer wasn't strong enough. So I just went on to straightening (its a wet to dry straightener). That didn't go over so well either. I said screw it. I put my hair in a pony tail and was on my way. I had Eric put sunscreen on me since I'm a redhead (though I haven't gotten a tan or sunburned in about 6 years).
After we were ready, we were on our way. I wanted to visit the Maurices in Chambersburg since we were there. My manager mentors the manager there. Well I had gotten directions from my mom that morning, since Garmin couldn't find it. We left and was on our way. We stopped off at Target first. It was big so I wanted to check it out. Eric got some bins to help him out at work. I got some gum. Then off to Maurices. Of course we wouldn't be able to find it. So I called home and no one answered. I called my sister's cell and asked her to look up the directions for me. She did, but couldn't tell me how to get there. She just gave me their phone number. So I called Maurices and Lynnette (the manager) answered. She said "when you get off 81, take a left and then a right into the mall." Are you kidding me? Ashley couldn't tell me that?
So we go there. It was dead for a Saturday (at least I thought so). The mall was ok in size, but lots of places where there was no stores. Found Maurices right off the bat. It was HUGE! I walked around and checked stuff out (a lot of times different Maurices get different product). They mostly had the same stuff, but had a 16 - 24 shop and a few different items. I picked out a few items we didn't have at our store and tried them on. I bought a couple. Eric wanted to get moving.
We then headed over to Gander Mountain because Eric wanted to buy a new hunting knife. While he was looking at knives I looked at the guns. I picked up a couple... it was weird holding a gun. I have never held on before. Well Eric picked out a knife, and some ear muff things for work, and then we went to check out. They had all sorts of different types of jerky, so we got some buffalo jerky to try. It tasted just like any other jerky I had, but left a weird after taste. After Gander Mountain we headed to Carlisle.
Again Garmin couldn't find the fairgrounds in her system. So we got off at the exit for the fairgrounds (the sign said at least). We drove down the road, it was all industrial. I'm not sure how far we drove but Eric decided it wasn't the way. So we got back on 81 and drove more towards Carlisle. We got off at the last exit and still nothing. So Eric called his mom. She said it was on Rt 11. I said screw driving on the interstate again, we're just gonna drive down 11. So we did... and we drove and drove... nothing. Again Eric started to get antsy. I told him to just hold on and see. If we ran into the industrial again, we knew we needed new directions. Well sure enough there were the fairgrounds. We parked on the same street we always park on, just close this time. We put all our stuff in the trunk and went to the show.
It was hot out... we walked the swap meet, and then started checking out the cars. Eric wanted to stay for the burnout show, which we never did before. So we just walked around. Around 4:30 we went and got lunch. Eric said he wanted a chicken sandwich, and I wasn't sure what I wanted except for fries. So I sat down and tried to think about it while he went to get his sandwich. He returned with chicken fingers. They weren't very good. He saw someone with cheese fries and we decided to get those. So I went and ordered them and a Mountain Dew (I needed some caffeine). The cheese fries were really hot. And they weren't very good fries either. They were undercooked and not crisp. Oh well. After we went and looked at more of the swap meet and some more cars. Finally around 5, I said lets go get seats for the drift show. So we did. We actually ended up sitting not far from one of Eric's dad's best friends. Eric went over and talked to him for a few. The girl sitting next to me told me that after the show, I should go to the lady's room and wash my face and arms because the tire particles get all over you and if you rub them you just smear it all over. So Eric wanted to leave early to beat the traffic. So we did. I went to the lady's room to clean up and I had to scrub! I didn't even bother washing my arms off.
Eric wanted to stop at a Shell station to get VPower and octane booster. So I told Garmin to find the closest Shell. Again Eric thought it was the wrong way. Finally we did come across one. They didn't have octane booster so he wanted to find a Mobil on the way home. Well some time we ran out of window wash. So now Eric was more than ready to find a Mobil. We were near State College, so I looked at Garmin said there was a Mobil 2 miles away from where we were. So we got off at State College. This town was HOPPING! There were people everywhere. It took us 25 mins to get through everything... We drove past the Mobil, because it was closed... all the gas stations were. So we told Garmin to bring us home. Eric didn't want to go back the way we came so he kept driving around until Garmin found a new route. There was a Walmart on the new route, so we stopped there for window wash and octane booster. They had both. We also had to use the restroom. There was a kid in the restroom and he told Eric there was a festival going on. Also while in Walmart, I checked out the hair care products for this anti-frizz hairspray that Aussie makes. I haven't been able to find it, but they had it. So I bought all they had (2 bottles). We left Walmart and I was hungry (so was Eric). But the only thing we saw was McDonald's. Eric hates McDonald's. He wanted to stop so I could get something to eat and I said I didn't want to eat if he wasn't. So we left.
Just as we started up the road there was a Wendy's. We stopped there. Eric just wanted a bacon cheeseburger. I went inside while Eric emptied out the water from the coolers. I put in our order: 2 bacon cheeseburgers, a homestyle wrap, and a spicy wrap. Well somehow the girl only got 1 burger and 1 wrap. The annoyance was growing. I was tired and in the sun all day! Anyways, I was watching for Eric because I knew he was getting annoyed because it was taking so long... and then some guy came up and asked what I was waiting for. I shrugged... I didn't know what they made us yet. He's like "oh you are waiting for the salad." I shook my head no and then he snaps at me "Well what are you waiting for?!" Oh man... I snapped back "How the hell should I know, I didn't stuff the bag, ask one of your employees what they put in there or look yourself!" I mean, they are in a city with one of the best colleges in the country... are you kidding me?
Anyways, after we got our food we were on our way. Eric was happy I got him a wrap. They are pretty good and big. Blah blah blah... we drive... we drive some more... We left Walmart at about 9:30.
We finally started to get into some back roads. Every other year we went, we just printed out directions from the internet and you take these crazy back rodes that curve and you have to drive at like 5 mph. We didn't end up taking those. Garmin found us another way (much more boring). Well we start to come up upon Phillipsburg. You could see it lightening in the distance... There were flares going down the highway. Great, there was an accident or they are doing seatbelt checks. We sat there, not moving for 30 mins. Finally a helicopter flew overhead and as we creeped forward you could see flashing lights. Eric looked around the car and said "good the blanket is folded up... they are looking for someone." I said "they can just let us go... we lived through the Bucky thing... which I'm sure was a lot worse than this."
(A little aside, in 2006 a man named Ralph Bucky Phillips escaped from a jail in Erie county, NY. He was waiting for his parole meeting when they pinned a disturbance on him which would lead him to like 15 years in jail. Well he escaped in April I think and was on the run for months. They started to air info on TV about it because if you got off on any exit in Chautauqua Co off 1-90 or 1-86, you would be stopped by state troopers, they would forcefully remove you from your car with shot guns and machine guns in their hands and search your car for this guy. Anyways, driving to college every day was kinda interesting that summer... there were police EVERYwhere. They pulled in almost all the state troopers from all over the state. Appearently Bucky killed 2 or 3 police officers while he was on the run. They caught Bucky they morning before Eric and I left for WDW. It would have been interesting if they hadn't. We were planning on leaving 7 hours before our flight just in case they decided to strip our car looking for him... my mom was gonna drop us off at the airport and bring a bunch of furniture and stuff to my aunt in Rochester.)
Well, as we got closer you could see that they were fire trucks, not police cars. They were around a little motel, so we assumed there was a fire there. But I didn't see any fire marking or anything. And there were cars parked in all the little parking lots around this park. Finally, I came to the conclusion they had fireworks, hense the flashes of lights in the sky, the flares, and the firemen. After Phillipsburg we were on our way again. It was getting really late and then it started to storm. The wipers decided they were gonna die on us, so we were having such a hard time seeing. Eric wanted to drive fast to get home... and I started to have a panic attack. Well we made it out of that storm and hit another around Warren. That one didn't last long. Eric was falling asleep at the wheel and it was like 12:30. I was really tired and I have a history of falling asleep at the wheel. I won't drive if I'm tired. Well Eric asked if I could make it to town. So I said, I would, since I had a bit of rest during the trip and felt safer with me driving. It wasn't much of a drive... and Eric told me to just stay at his place because he didn't think he could drive home after dropping me off. So I called my mom and told her. We got home about 1:30 Sunday morning. I told Eric next year we are either staying both nights or we are NOT going to stop on the way home. (When we first left the fairgrounds, Garmin said we would reach home by 11:30.)
I'll post some pics once I get them on my computer.
