Thinking about getting an all-in-one washer/dryer. Anyone have one? Pros? Cons?

TIA

DD had one about 8 years ago so I know they have improved, but she hated it. Everything took forever.

My issue with them is I did have one of those stacking washer/dryer units that were connected. Washer died ... but because all in one, I had to replace them both. I replaced them with separate stacking units. It is an expensive unit if you have to replace, where separate units you only have to replace one.

I don’t have one, although I have considered them in the past. The two things that usually stop me from moving forward are one, it supposedly takes longer to dry the clothes than a conventional dryer, and two, when you only have one machine, you can only do one load at a time, instead of having both machines running simultaneously. It’s the two loads option that really keeps me sticking with the separate machines, even though my laundry room is very small and having one machine would make it less claustrophobic.

We had one when we stayed in a HA villa in Beach Club Villas. It was just awful regarding the drying cycle. A maintenance person was called and basically he agreed that it was an awful machine.

I hope you do lots of research and it turns out ok for you.

This was my DD complaint. And the drum was not big because it has way more mechanisms in the casing forcing the smaller drum.

Having two loads going at once is a plus.

I bought one ten years ago and I think the pair of blue jeans I washed the first day are almost dry...

I would like to say that's a joke but it's honestly not far from the truth.

The washing part is usually okay but they will not dry anything to save their life.

I don't have one.
I probably wouldn't get one.
Seems like a lot could go wrong with them.
Plus when I do laundry I tend to do several loads and having a washer and a dryer makes the process go faster since you can be drying a load while washing the next load.
I suppose if I were the type of person that just wanted to do one wash at a time and not think about it start to finish and everything in the load was to be dried vs hung it would be convenient.

These machines is very popular in Europe. Muchly due to space issue. I have associates who have one and seem to like. I just have washer and have drying racks.

Don't own one but it seems like the only real benefit is for someone with limited space in the laundry room or perhaps live in an apartment where space is at a premium. Other than save space, not sure what advantage they have. Clearly, the design for an 'all in one' washer/dryer would have to make trade-offs and if something needs repair, likely the costs would be higher.

If it is this or nothing go for it, it is better than a laundromat or no machine.
If you are a person living alone or maybe just 2 people go for it.
If you are a person living in a warm climate where clothes tend to be lightweight and easy to dry go for it.

We got one in our city apartment a few years back. It ran all the time because we have winter and are a lot of people. Electric dryers in general are awful in my experience, I always seem to need to run them at hottest setting longest time and twice which is not the energy saving I think they were going for when these were being pushed. Eventually, I managed by splitting the drying loads up and using drying racks and hanging things over doors at night like bedding and jeans. I have a large electric now still and am still running at hottest setting longest time and twice while hanging lots of things on door frames overnight.

As an aside, the washers that save water do not clean clothes, I am always dragging a container of water with the soap mixed in and dropping it on top of the load to get the soap in there - despise it they are gross.

I miss the old machines that ran 30 min and were done, I think I used way less energy then than doing it twice.

But if it would be if you have a small apartment and you don’t have so much space and you’re always out all the time you can just throw a load in and not have to come back to move things into a dryer. I assume they take longer because it uses condensation to dry the clothes. . Our standalone dryer uses condensation collects water into a tank and it definitely takes longer than the standard US dry heat vent drying, but the benefit of this is your clothes. Do not shrink takes me a good hour and a half to dry towels. Takes a good hour and a half to dry a full load of towels. on the other hand, my good clothes don’t shrink and less heat samage
