All carryons?

We are contemplating just packing three carry ons for our upcoming trip, one for each of us. Has anyone ever tried this? Does it work? Can I get all my stuff through security (contact lens solution, medicines, toothpaste, etc.)? We have a late afternoon flight that doesn't land to MCO until 9 p.m. and although I love ME, the luggage usually takes a few hours to get to the room. I wanted to just take everything with us on the plane. We do plan on doing laundry at least once so I am not worried that I can pack everything into three carry ons.

Remember, each airline has size restrictions on the carry-ons, so make sure that even with doing laundry during your trip that it will all fit. As for getting everything through security....the liquids/gels/toothpaste all have to be 3 ounces or less and you have to fit all the containers of liquids into ONE quart-sized ziplock bag (one bag per carry-on). As for what else you can or cannot get through security that you're planning on taking with you, check TSA's website for their list of what's allowed for carry-ons. What we did to avoid problems with not having our luggage for a few hours is packed things like swimsuits, extra change of clothes, documents for check-in, medications, pin lanyards, and autograph books into the carry-ons (things we would need right away). You can also pack small travel-sized toothpaste (small enough to meet the above requirements) and such in your carry-ons so you will have things you need for going to bed/getting ready in the morning in case your luggage doesn't arrive in time. Everything else for us went into the suitcases. I know for our family of 4 I would never have gotten everything into carry-ons (even if we had done laundry there, which I didn't want to take time away from the parks to do).....especially once we had souveniers to take home. Have a fun trip!

I think if you can pull that off, then you'll need to share your story with us!

Seriously, I could never do that, but it does sound really nice to have it all with you for arrival.

You can do it. We do it each trip. We usually go for 10 days and pack a carry on for each of us. (me, DH & DS). Some airlines allow a second small bag. We usually have a backpack that we bring too. Another trick is to ship your shampoo, sunblock, toothpaste etc. to the resort ahead of time. Just ship the package to your resort with your arival date on it and they will have it waiting for you when you check it. Good luck and have a great trip! :)

That's a great idea! Otherwise, I can't see how you would be able to pack sunscreen and other liquid items -- each item must be 3 ounces or less, with all fitting into a quart-size ziploc bag. The screeners are serious about this - I watched one woman ahead of me throw away a very nice bottle of body lotion from Bath and Body Works because it was larger than 3 ounces. They absolutely wouldn't let her carry it on.

One thing to remember is that if too many people on your flight have larger carry-ons, the airline might make you gate-check your carry on at the last minute. On a flight I took last year, I was forced to gate-check my carry-on bag because all of the overhead bins were already full before I boarded. I had to do a last-minute scramble to grab out my prescriptions and other essentials (plus a glass hummingbird feeder that I didn't want to get broken). I have never had that happen before, so it's something to keep in mind when packing.

We are planning on doing this as well. We are using travel space saver bags so we can fit a few more clothes in. We are also going to use our grocery stop to get some of the things you mentioned, contact solution, razors, shampoo, conditioner. We are also planning on packing a bag that we can use for check in, so that we can buy souveniers and not worry. The only thing we are worried about carrying on is our helmets for our halloween costume.

We did this in July and it worked great. We actually sent two boxes and at check in we asked for them and they brought them to us and we had them right then.

We sent toothpaste, shampoo & conditioner, sunblock, snacks, and laundry stuff. We had everything at check in. Now we did have ME delivery our luggage and that took 4 hours for us to get (but we checked in at 11:00 am, so it wasn't a problem for us).

So if I were you, I would ship these things, and just pack clothes for the plane. Then you don't have to worry about the amount of liquids. We took perscription meds with us on the plane except for advil and first aid stuff (that was shipped).
