I was going to say the same thing. I tried on-line and couldn't get the rate but the agent when I called was able to apply it to my existing ressies last July.

Can't hurt to ask. FYI, this was for my July 2010 trip, but it was the exact same promotion ($19/kid). Good luck!

Thanks for posting the code but it is no deal for me. It is just me and my
DS10 taking the train this year. I booked the train 2 weeks ago and his ticket is only costing me $41 dollars with my AAA discount and I now see they raised the price of my SUV from $169 to$220. If I rebook using this code it would save me $20 on his ticket but I would be paying $50 more for the SUV. Oh well I'm happy I booked when I did!!

Is the return trip north oversized vehicle charge ever the $169? Every single date I put in, I get $169 for the south trip, but $220 for the north. Thanks.

We are in Texas so we have to go to Chicgo then to Florida & it will be a 3 days one way. I would have to cut Disney by 2 days to use this (& can't do the car thing)

Why isn't there a southern route??

I assume you are looking into regular Amtrak and yes it does look like all east west routes go through Chicago.

I would say its because passenger rail pretty much died in the US when the interstate road way system was built, there just isn't much call for passenger rail so they have to combine routes and basically create a huge hub and spoke system.

So blame Eisenhower.

My advice is to just try again on another day. I remember last year when I did this, I couldn't do it on-line...called the very 1st day the promotion came out and was told there was nothing available, which I couldn't believe b/c I had to have been one of the very first callers for my dates.

Then I called back about 5 days later and that agent said, of course there is availabilty and got me the discount.

Maybe I got lucky ... maybe you will too.

I called today about the kids $19 I was told that I can not use it until April 15. I was told to call on April 15th and they will apply it to my current reservation. It will not matter if prices go up. They will just credit my visa with the difference. I will keep the same reservation number.

Yes it is!!! I wasn't going to bother since the fare for my car has gone up but if I can keep my same resevation and save a few $$ I will be calling!!

I have a reminder to call in April and try to reduce our fare! I will probably go ahead and add rooms to our trip at that time as well!

So it will save me about $60 but then I'll add another $150 or so for two roomettes!

I am loving this thread as I secretly plan our first autotrain trip! (Our family of 6 will do the train on the way home from our Disney trip in June.)

A few posts back someone mentioned the Amtrak rewards program, so I thought I'd look into signing-up since I have a feeling we will LOVE the autotrain...

As I complete the online sign-up page on the Amtrak site there's a place for an "enrollment code". Does anyone have any idea what I should be putting in here? Are there any sign-up bonuses I should be aware of? (Every little bit helps in the quest for a return trip!

Thanks to this thread, I learned about the $19 summer kids fare...so THANK YOU for that !!!.....JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW......the promo starts TODAY !!!!!! I thought it was April 15th, but the EXTREMELY nice employee JIM told me it started TODAY !!!!!! So I booked roundtrip for end of August and saved 82.00 each way on my 3 boys !! Hope that helps someone out !!! Oh, by the way, AAA dscount cannot be used in conjunction with this offer, but the $19 kids fare promo. is wayyyy better !!!
