All Aboard! The Great Land and Sea Getaway - May 2009 PTR

May 19th - Animal Kingdom

I am hoping and praying for a lovely sunny day this day. Our past two trips each day that we have gone to Animal Kingdom it has been rainy and miserable. While it cools the temperature and makes the animals more active we would like to enjoy the park without being soggy and cold and miserable. :rotfl:;) So keep your fingers crossed for us that we get some nice weather.

We'll start the day off as we usually do by heading for the safari right at rope drop. After that over to Everest to grab some fastpasses or just hop in line if the wait is not too bad. This is another ride that Mom says she is going to go on this trip, I'll believe it when I see it. She has a history of not liking roller coasters so not sure why she wants to go on this but hey if she wants to try it I am not going to stop her.

We will of course wander down the animal trails, I especially love the Tigers. A must for every trip is Festival of the Lion King. We'll probably catch this right before or right after lunch which will be at Pizzafari.

Other than that not sure what else we will do, probably just see what we feel like in the moment. Flights of Wonder was pretty amusing last time so maybe we will go see that again. I am also considering giving the Nemo musical another shot.

One ride we will definitely be skipping is Dinosaur, Mom doesn't like it as it is too jerky and well I am not too eager to ride it again after getting my ear smashed last year.

We have a free evening so I have a few things in mind that we might possibly do

1)Downtown Disney (only if we didn't get everything done that we wanted on the first day.

2) Dinner off property and then maybe mini-golf?

3) Counter Service dinner at the Poly and then Wishes from the beach

4) Mom had mentioned going to the Millenia Mall, perhaps I will be a nice daughter and we'll spend the evening there. I just don't think I will have much room in my suitcase for extra purchases. Has anybody been to this mall before? It looks very large and has lots of high end stores. $$$$ It will probably hold many temptations for me.

So as you can see we have lots of options for how to spend the rest of the day once we leave AK. If it were you which option would you pick?

Sounds like a fun MK day. We have DTD planned for this night. I also think CS and WIshes at the Poly Beach spunds fun.

re Swine Flu My MIL sent us an email today about teh first reported case, said we should call our travel person that we could probably get our $$ back if we wanted to cancel. Um no but I am secretly hoping that other do-less crowded.

There are high dollar stores, Louie Vuitton, Jimmy Choo, Tiffany, Burberry but also Macy's, Talbots, Abercrombie, and Williams Sonoma so you have a nice variety. Target is across the street and there is a post office in the mall if you need to ship your packages home. :goodvibes

Less crowded would be nice, and also lessen the chance of catching something. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info, it is good to know the locals. :thumbsup2 My only argument about going to the mall is that it has pretty much the same stores (other than the designer boutiques) as in Syracuse, New York so why waste Disney time at the mall. Since Mom seems to want to go though and we have the free evening I will probably relent.

You guys are scaring me about the swine flu ! How bad is it in Florida ????

From what I have heard not bad but cases are springing up all over the place every day and we still have three weeks to go so who knows what things will be like then. Things could have died out or things could be much worse or somewhere in between. :confused3

:yay: on getting all your documents!! Your park plans so far looks great. If we don't go to Spectromagic Saturday night then we might hop over on the 18th after our Chef de France dinner. Maybe well see you there. I'm a bit freaked out about this swine :scared1: flu too! I wrote on my FB yesterday that I really don't even want to fly to Disney now. Wish I was driving in my germ free car. We all have little colds right now too.

I think it would be just as likely to catch it driving or flying. If you drive then you have to account for all the exposure you will get at bathroom stops/meals on the road, etc. So I think the exposure risk is probably about the same.

I don't think you need to worry. Mayor Bloomberg here and a few of the top NYC doctors are saying there's no need to worry, and most of the US cases have been here in NYC. Be careful and wash your hands often, but I wouldn't go too crazy. The media is blowing it way out of proportion! The few cases in this country have been very mild. This is just something new that people are afraid of... everyone seems to forget that tens of thousands of people die from the regular flu every year in the US alone. Just don't lick anything random and you'll be fine :lmao::lmao:

I'm not too too worried beyond my usual tendency to worry about things happening on vacation. I haven't had the flu since I was really little. When I do get sick I tend to get the unusual diseases such as scarlet fever or pneumonia. I laugh and tell myself that after all this time if I catch the flu it will have to be the swine flu to keep with my tradition.

I just talked to our nurse at work and she says it's being blown out of proportion!! She said "Take lot of purell and wash your hands a lot you'l be fine !" :thumbsup2She i goingon a cruise to Mexico on the 14th and isn't worried !! ;)Hey it's here in NY so what's the difference !! :confused3
By the way my MMM T shirt arrived to day :banana:can't wait to wear it !! I am bringing in my carryon !!Taking no chances !!!:lmao:

Hey Lessa, sorry I haven't been keeping up. PTR's sort of got put on the back burner for a while. Crazy busy with work and then Jimmy is into all kids of activities and school stuff now. Forgive me:flower3:

Your trip is so close:yay:

Last year it was Hurricane/Tropical Storm Fay and now it is the Swine Flu. Can't I catch a break!

AK day was a bit soggy wans't it:sad2:

On the 14th of May? She should check with her cruise line, I know most of them have changed their itineraries to avoid Mexico over the next couple of weeks.

No problem, I have been known to get behind on certain threads. :cutie:

One of the people on my cruise thread found out what movies will be showing on the cruise

Hannah Montana-The Movie
Earth
Race to Witch Mountain
Jonas Brothers- 3-D
Confessions of a Shopaholic
Hannah Montana-The Concert in 3-D
Bolt- 3-D
High School Musical 3
Bedtime Stories
Swing Votes
Beverly Hills Chihuahua
Up

I am interested in seeing many of those. Of course movie-watching will not be my first priority but good to know I have options. The Jonas Brothers in 3-D is definitely my must see. ;):lmao::rotfl:

Yep, "Up", premiers while we are on the ship. Some say that it will be shown on the last night (night it gets released everywhere) and others are saying that DCL often will show it earlier in the week instead of waiting for the official date. Personally I am hoping that they show it earlier in the week as if they only have it showing the last night that theatre is going to be packed!

Lessa the Nurse doesn't car if they chyange itinararies !! She knew they were changing them the next couple of weeks !!She just wants to get away fora few days !! This could work to our advantage at Disney though as maybe it will be less crowded !!

I would like to see a bunch of those movies they will be showing on the cruise. How cool is that??? We definitely need to do a cruise next year. I'm really looking forward to your take so that I can get another perspective.

Rosie, I sure hope you're right. I'd like a reasonable crowd level for our trip. :goodvibes

Smaller crowds would be nice especially since before the swine flu panic hit the crowd predictions were very very high.

I'll probably see a few of them, I really have no idea what activities I am going to do while on the ship, I guess I will have to wait and see what is offered when we board the ship. There is always so much to do based on the navigators I have seen from previous cruises.

I will definitely have a very detailed TR. I'm thinking of double posting the cruise portion of the TR over on the cruise TR section or maybe just having a separate thread for the WDW portion and the cruise portion? :confused3 They have very few TR's there and most of them are not very detailed, have very few pictures and the majority never even get finished! I was very disappointed when I went over there looking for some to read, very different type of TR's then here in the WDW section of the boards.

Just placed an Amazon order, I am super excited for it to arrive. I ordered the box set of the Sookie Stackhouse books (I'll probably take one or two of them with me to read on the trip) and I also ordered the new Bluray edition of Pride and Prejudice (95 BBC version). I am really excited to get this as I LOVE Pride and Prejudice, I think I might take that to reread on the cruise as well.
