All Aboard: Disney's "A Christmas Carol" Train Tour Mini TR

Distrain-1.jpg

Official Disney Website: http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/christmascaroltraintour/

So Disney has decided to send a a train around to promote the new Stop motion animation 3-D spectacular version of the Charles Dicken's classic starring Jim Carey in 7 roles!

Anyway, we don't get a lot of Disney action here and the train tour was FREE! Yes, Free... gotta love the free stuff. I guess it is going to several cities across the US and the lines have been quite long but luckily for us we got there at a good time and only had to wait about a 1/2 hour. That's about as long as I would recommend you wait to see this. It was cute BUT... it's still just advertising.

But first, the carolers!

My kids and the rest of the native Portland, ORegonians present were horrified at the idea of Christmas Caroling during a sunny and hot day. I am from California.. this IS Christmas to me. It's not right, but it that's how I was raised! It's weird to think about it now!

One song is all they could take in the blazing 78 degree heat

Well the weather outside is frightful....

People were sort of walking through pretty quickly so not alot of time to stop and look at the displays.. they weren't all that interesting, anyway (and I like museums!)

One car showed quite a bit about the animation technique but all I saw here was a guy in a black suit up against a mirror.. not too interactive or exciting.

You got to scan your own picture into the machine and then watch yourself morph into Ebeneezer, a ghost, Belle, or Tiny Tim.. then later you retrive your photo's from your Email account (after an email from Wal-Mart EW!). I didn't realize how well the video screen would photograph or I would have taken the pictures as we morphed ourselves. They came out cute and this was a fun time.

The last car was really cute and had this table of food laid out. The Disney tehnique of blowing the smell into the air was employed here and it smelled REALLY good like gingerbread and what not. The picture window was animated and the whole affect was cool

After the train tour you take your ticket *free souvenir* and go across the street ... insert gratuitous picture of our really cute train station in downtown Portland....

to another 10 minute line for a quick (but comfortabley air-conditioned) 10 min preview in high def and WITH 3-D glasses of the movie itself. That was the best part.

Inside this giant backwards bounce house was VERY nicely climate controlled

The movie looks really cute! I love this style of animation. It's not nearly as creepy as Polar Express and is much more realistic - in this movie the pores on Ebeneezer's nose are REALLY creepy! The ghosts look like they could be scary for young kids (and easily scared tweens!) but there is definitely humor mixed in. I can't wait to see this movie! Of course nothing will ever compare to my favorite.. the classic Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol. I am NOT kidding you when I say this movie rocks. It is REALLY, REALLY good. If you don't own it on DVD I highly recommend it! SERIOUSLY.

Make this a classic in your home! You won't be sorry

THE END

And A Very Merry (Early) Christmas to YOU!

We really wanted to see this when it was at Oakland, but we had way too much going on that weekend. Glad to hear it was worthwhile. (Christmas in June/July - egads!)

Huggy Bear Bendy (boy, that just sounds wrong ... :lmao:) reporting for duty!

Those pics were great and the traveling display looks really cool. I'm sure nothing that awesome will ever arrive in Stinktown ... at last check no one can even drive to Union Station because the primary East / West interstate leading to it is shut down for "improvements."

Ah well ... we wouldn't go see it anyway because we're lazy that way and you just did the work for us.

A couple of things ...

Blazing 78-degree heat ?????

You are joking, right? Temperatures in Stinktown this past Saturday topped out at 100 degrees with a heat index of 112. We would kill for 78 degrees at night let along during the day. :rotfl2:

That portrait of Young Ebeneezer bothers me ... I think his neck is far too frail to support his ginormous head. :lmao:

Don't you want to play connect the dots with the picture of that person wearing the virtual reality funky hat-type thing?

Your daughters are cutie patooties! :goodvibes

Ah, Christmas in July. I'm glad to see the animation looks far less creepy than the Polar Express did. And wee little Ebeneezer looks, dare I say it, not creepy in the least and kind of adorable.

And two big thumbs up for Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 That's right up there with the Ziggy one for me.

Of course by the time it comes to my little 1 plex... it will be 1 D Jim Carey will be looking :scared: by then...

I should see where this thing is traveling... Thanks for taking us along!!! :thumbsup2

They will be in Seattle over the weekend & I'm really glad you posted the pics because I was wondering how fun it was going to be! Looking forward to checking it out! :)

Thanks for posting this; I'm sure it won't make it anywhere near here! I agree wholeheartedly that Polar Express is tres creepy! Glad to hear that this movie will be a good one.

Very cool! Thanks for posting... we may have to look into seeing it when the train comes to our neck of the woods.

EDIT: Well, I won't be able to see it. It is in Baltimore on a Wednesday (I teach) and in DC on October 2-4 (I will be in WDW!). I will have to wait for the movie, I guess. And I am even more thankful that you posted this now. :goodvibes

Not sure if we'll be able to make it, but it's on my calendar! Tuesday, Oct 6th at the Southeastern Railway Museum, Duluth, GA! :)

My pleasure... you had to shuffle through pretty quickly and it would only really be worth while if the line was short. I heard that during parts of the day the line was 2-3 hours

We are planning on seeing it when it comes to our area.

Enjoy! The girls and I were laughing because it was really hot outside while we waited for the preview to start and when we came out of the air conditioned room we were all happy and joyous and full of Disney fun and I said, "It's just like Disneyland.. we were all angry, hot, and bickering outside for a half hour and then we come out of our quick little bit of fun with a HUGE smile!" :3dglasses

:lmao: too funny! You see Jim as a pimple faced teen as well. There was one scene they showed of him playing the ghost of xmas present and he looked just like himself bobbing up and down inside a circle of haze as the head of the ghost. It wasn't impressive. The other versions of him were pretty fun.

Don't you just love those songs? They are haunting, sad, funny, and extremely memorable. :lovestruc I have not seen Ziggy but now I may look it up!

:rotfl: "we're lazy and you did the work for us" You even make me laugh in your replys! I read that to my DH and giggled and giggled. :) I said, "It's oybolshoi.. you know the one who's food reports I read to you out loud and laugh and laugh and laugh?" Yep, he knows ya.

I was serious about the heat. We PNWesterners are NOT ok with heat.

I'm headed to So Cal tonight and I know I'm going to DIE! The patooties (whether the prefix is "pain-in-the" or "cutie" is still up in the air) are going to Disneyland for TWO WHOLE DAYS without me :scared1: They're studying away though.. we are tourazizis. Milatent RP types... Yes, we WILL FP your a**, and don't you forget it!

!

No we are not okay with heat.. :( In Portland we have been having a cool down and now the temps are close to the 80's and 90's... after it has been in the low 70's upper 60's... We are not used to the temps that other states are..

I hated it when I was in Florida I could not stand the temps... also anywhere in SoCali makes me sick too..

I was also at the train station yesterday for it. I got there around 9:15 and in the spots where there was shade it was really nice :D

I really enjoyed the train and the 3D showing. It was also nice that the local Christmas radio station and some other things where there, and it was nice that they got the word out about child safety seats..

If it comes to your local town I would go see it!

It's going to be in my state in 2 weeks. I haven't figured out yet if we will be able to see it, but thanks so much for the report!!

I just got back from the Inland Empire (nice name for the Outter Mojave Desert region of So Cal!) and it was HOT HOT HOT but I hear I missed the heat wave here in portland and so we were about the same! IT sure feels good here today though!

You're welcome! :goodvibes
