Aliens, F&W waddle & food porn-Oct2014 BCV & 1st time DCL (Updated 19Apr2015)

So I am really far behind and hopefully I will eventually catch up. A few comments - I think I missed your whole cruise. I promise to go back and re-read it. Love your room. It's so lovely! I had a really nice stay at the BCV. Love it there.

I love how you guys got off the ship and just went right to the parks. Love all your pictures from the parks. Tot looks like a blast and you can never go wrong with Star Tours.

Dinner at Cali Grille - yum! Glad you enjoyed it and gave it such a good rating.

And I love Via Napoli. Their pizza is very yummy! Great apps and dessert!

The weather looks beautiful.

Okay...I may screw this up...first time I am trying to quote only certain text and certain pictures. Although we had a disappointing stay at Beach Club (and I do want to try it again), these pictures are just stunning.
I hope you do try BC again. DW and I can't decide whether we like BCV more or BWV.

I had originally heard a rumor that they were closing Indiana Jones and Lights Motor Action. I'm not sure Disney knows what they are doing. I don't call it MGM anymore...finally stopped about a year ago and now they are going to screw me up all over again.
One thing for sure, they are making some major changes. I don't know how that will effect crowd levels across the parks and at the resorts. It will be interesting.

Smart man! Mark can do Rock & Roll after neck surgery, but not TOT. I think it's the "not knowing" when the drops are going to happen and being able to keep his head in a set position. We have the best of both worlds...he goes and does Rock and I go and do TOT.
That's kinda the way it is with me. If I know a jerk, drop or roll is coming, I can brace myself and be okay. But with most things, it's the not knowing that's the worse!

They did that one day when we were there too. I would have been po'd. At least now they are adding a third track.
I'm really glad they are expanding.

You really do need to go back and review the cruise....especially the last night! :scared1:

Love your room. It's so lovely! I had a really nice stay at the BCV. Love it there.
With BCV and BWV being so close to EPCOT and a boat ride to MGM...er DHS...er whatever they want to call it this next time...we love to stay at either.

I love how you guys got off the ship and just went right to the parks. Love all your pictures from the parks. Tot looks like a blast and you can never go wrong with Star Tours.
Some people say it is better to go to WDW first and then cruise, some say cruise and then WDW. We did cruise/WDW this time and in April, 2016 we will do WDW/cruise. I'll let you know. :rotfl2:

Dinner at Cali Grille - yum! Glad you enjoyed it and gave it such a good rating.
It was really nice and you can't beat the view.

And I love Via Napoli. Their pizza is very yummy! Great apps and dessert!
Now admit it...is it the food or is it the CM eye candy? :faint:

The weather looks beautiful.
We've been pretty lucky with weather on all our WDW trips so far. I say that and come December when we get to meet the famous MEK/Denny again, it will probably be a late season hurricane, a monsoon or a freak snow storm!

wow, what a full day! You are right that MGM is going to be going through a lot of changes. You are probably right that it means more Star Wars, though my dream is that a 5th gate is coming that would include Star Wars and other adventure type stuff (Indiana Jones, Big Hero 6, whatever Marvel stuff they could legally do) and then MGM gets an expanded Pixar Place with some of the best rides form around the world (Crush's Coaster, etc.) and a new one or 2. I believe they did announce at one point that the new attractions for Star Wars would cover the new movies and I think you are right that more announcements will come as part of Star Wars weekend

The new videos they are having for some rides - and I have seem some video magic shots as well - are pretty cool!

California Grill is one of our favorites - the food has always been great and you can't beat the view - we always time it so we can watch Wishes from the observation deck. The Spicy Kazaan Roll is one of my absolute favorite foods ever. I agree that dessert is the weakest part of their menu though

Trying to get caught up. I am at the end of your Nassau day.

Breakfast at the Royal Court looked fabulous. Where was everyone? At the buffets, or getting ready to go ashore?

Sounds like you weren't all that impressed with downtown Nassau. We have had a couple of 5 day vacations with a stay at Atlantis, which is incredible. We have gone into town a few times (visiting the Pirates Museum, bus tour of the city), but you are right, there's not a lot there. We are not shoppers and have absolutely no interest in the Straw Market. The culinary tour Mary Ellen took sounds interesting though.

I am blown away by your outstanding meal at Remy's. When do you choose your order? When you first arrive?

You are quite the swashbuckling couple! Whenever I see pictures of your wife, she reminds me with Julianna Margulies from The Good Wife. Similar appearances and they both seem to carry themselves with a lot of poise.

My husband really wants to try a Disney cruise, and the fireworks from the ship are one of the reasons. I'm glad you were able to watch some from your balcony.

:goodvibes:

Now I am finished with Castaway Cay- Shouldn't it be Castawee Key?

Gorgeous pictures, both from the ship and on the island.

What is the tall not-palm tree?

Serenity Bay looks really wonderful. So clear and calm. I don't know if you had a chance to discuss the cruise when you met Teena but that is her happy place.

That is too bad about the cancelled Jet Ski tour. Disney's island is probably one of the few places I would consider that activity. You hear a lot about safety issues and scams where you get blamed for damage to the jet skis, but I would be comfortable doing this if Disney was involved.

I have heard so many great things about Alaskan cruises, and the excursions you are considering all sound thrilling.

Once again, I am not disappointed by the food porn. Great selections and great pictures at Animators Palate. And memorable dinner conversation...

What more could you want. Oh, craving some crème brulee? Here you go!

That is amazing, thoughtful service.

:genie:

What a great review. The Dream looks gorgeous. My mouth was watering with the food.

As soon as I seen the hotel room in Port Canaveral I said that is the Radison.

Hello Saints!! So excited to see a TR from you...will head back to read it tomorrow. I know you and Grace had a blast!!

I too would like a 5th gate but I can't see them spending that much moola until they get DHS & DAK up to full day parks. It's a lot cheaper to add on to the existing parks instead of building a new one from scratch. Whatever Disney does it will mean we have a lot of new things to look forward to in the future!

The new videos they are having for some rides - and I have seem some video magic shots as well - are pretty cool!
I was pleasantly surprised with ours at ToT. Now I have to get the one from 7DMT!

California Grill is one of our favorites - the food has always been great and you can't beat the view - we always time it so we can watch Wishes from the observation deck. The Spicy Kazaan Roll is one of my absolute favorite foods ever. I agree that dessert is the weakest part of their menu though
We really enjoyed the food and the view. I'd love to go back when Wishes is happening.

Breakfast at the Royal Court looked fabulous. Where was everyone? At the buffets, or getting ready to go ashore?
We were there fairly early so I guess others were sleeping in or getting ready to go ashore. It didn't bother us though. I kind of liked it!

Sounds like you weren't all that impressed with downtown Nassau. We have had a couple of 5 day vacations with a stay at Atlantis, which is incredible. We have gone into town a few times (visiting the Pirates Museum, bus tour of the city), but you are right, there's not a lot there. We weren't very interested in exploring Nassau anyway. We wanted to get back on the Dream and look around while everyone else was ashore since it was our first time on board. All we really wanted to do was get a souvenir and get our passports stamped. I guess one out of two isn't bad, huh? :sad1:

I am blown away by your outstanding meal at Remy's. When do you choose your order? When you first arrive?
Remy's was fantastic! We went over all the options when we first arrived and then just sat back and enjoyed the view while everything was prepared. It was magnifique! Did you get that little Frenchy reference there? Remy...French :rotfl2:Maybe Max was right and I should tryout for the boat Captain job on the Jungle Cruise!

You are quite the swashbuckling couple! Whenever I see pictures of your wife, she reminds me with Julianna Margulies from The Good Wife. Similar appearances and they both seem to carry themselves with a lot of poise
Why thank you ma'am. I'm really surprised we both decided to dress up for Pirate's night. DW will be pleased with the compliment. She was trained in classical ballet and her dance instructor that trained two Miss America winners talked to her about attending Juilliard but it was too far from home for this little ole Southern belle.

My husband really wants to try a Disney cruise, and the fireworks from the ship are one of the reasons. I'm glad you were able to watch some from your balcony.
We were on the starboard side of the ship but I don't know if the fireworks are always on that side. I was really hesitant to try the cruise but now I enjoy it just as much as visiting WDW!

Now I am finished with Castaway Cay- Shouldn't it be Castawee Key?
I mean really, right?! :confused3

Gorgeous pictures, both from the ship and on the island.
Thanks but it's real easy to take decent pics when the subject is so beautiful.

What is the tall not-palm tree?
It was a cell tower!

Serenity Bay looks really wonderful. So clear and calm. I don't know if you had a chance to discuss the cruise when you met Teena but that is her happy place.
The whole island is just perfect but what else would you expect from Disney? We spoke with Teena for quite a while and she told us of her many cruise adventures. She's a wealth of information and gave us plenty of tips and advice.

That is too bad about the cancelled Jet Ski tour. Disney's island is probably one of the few places I would consider that activity. You hear a lot about safety issues and scams where you get blamed for damage to the jet skis, but I would be comfortable doing this if Disney was involved.
We've been on a jet ski many times years ago when we lived in Natchez, MS and had a blast. We were really looking forward to it. Maybe next time.

I have heard so many great things about Alaskan cruises, and the excursions you are considering all sound thrilling.
I've yet to hear or read about anyone not having a good time on an Alaska cruise. We are really looking forward to it!

Once again, I am not disappointed by the food porn. Great selections and great pictures at Animators Palate. And memorable dinner conversation...
That was our biggest surprise about the cruise...the quality of the food on board. As for the table mates, all I can say is what DW said, "Holy crap on a cracker!" :scared1:

What more could you want. Oh, craving some crème brulee? Here you go!

That is amazing, thoughtful service.
I know DCL is more expensive than many of the other cruise lines but as in anything, you get what you pay for. The great food and the fantastic service on DCL are just two of the reasons they keep winning awards for best cruise ships on the high seas! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

What a great review. The Dream looks gorgeous. My mouth was watering with the food.

As soon as I seen the hotel room in Port Canaveral I said that is the Radisson.
Thanks for the kind words. I'm really glad you are enjoying the TR. We learned about the Radisson from other TR's and were not disappointed at all.

Hello Saints!! So excited to see a TR from you...will head back to read it tomorrow. I know you and Grace had a blast!!
Well hello stranger!! I'm glad you are here to read along. Don't you think it's about time for another Mississippi DISmeet?

Still behind... I am at your checkin day at BCV

Although the menu at Fresh is limited, what you had looked good. I'm not a picky eater, so I would have no problem finding something there. I haven't been to Fresh (or even to the Dolphin or Swan resorts).

YAY for arriving at the Beach Club and meeting my pal Teena!!! Glad you had a nice time talking to her, and once again, I appreciate the pictures you sent to me of the new CL lounge- you were the first one to send them to me after it opened.

Your villa looks really nice, and the views are not bad at all- BCV doesn't really have a reputation for fantastic views.

May I use your pictures on the FAQ thread? I have links for BCV views and also for the rooms, so I would love to add a link to your photos.

:flower3:

*************************************************************************

Glad you got a last ride on Maelstrom. Really great pictures. Did you pay proper tribute and run sheepishly out of the movie theatre so you didn't have to watch. One last time.

Too bad there wasn't a Nassau booth so you could get the passport stamp you were missing.

:cool1: for a Beverly newbie!!!

I knew about the extra Soarin' theater, and I knew DL would be unveiling a new movie, but this is the first I have heard of a new World movie.

I haven't tried Via Napoli, but most of the reviews are similar to yours. Go for the cute waiters!!!

Wow! Thatsa lotta pizza!

Fresh was exactly like you said...limited menu but good. You should try Todd English's Blue Zoo at the Dolphin!!

I'm so glad we got the chance to talk to Teena. I can't wait to see her again on our next stay at BCV. I'm glad you could use the pics and thanks for keeping the Yacht Club/BC/BCV thread going!

Sure...use any pics you'd like...I'd be honored.

:rotfl2:No running out...sheepishly or otherwise. It'll be interesting to see what the new Frozen ride/display will look like.

Too bad there wasn't a Nassau booth so you could get the passport stamp you were missing.
I know...that would've been great!

:cool1: for a Beverly newbie!!!
It was hilarious! He kept saying, "Why would anyone make something like that?" :thumbsup2

I knew about the extra Soarin' theater, and I knew DL would be unveiling a new movie, but this is the first I have heard of a new World movie.
The new DL Soarin' movie will focus on California. The new WDW Soarin' movie will have more scenes from around the world, which makes sense considering where it is located. I would expect it to be a bit longer than the current film too. I wonder if they are going to limit the scenes to the countries that are in the World Showcase?

I haven't tried Via Napoli, but most of the reviews are similar to yours. Go for the cute waiters!!!
I'm shocked!!! :faint:

Wow! Thatsa lotta pizza!
Plenty of leftovers for breakfast the next day!!

I'm here and all caught up! Can't wait to see how your trip unfolds. A cruise...and Alaska at that. Definitely on my must do list!
BTW that pizza looks massive!

Tuesday – 10/07/14

Today we are at Magic Kingdom. We have FP+ for BTMRR, Splash Mountain and then later in the afternoon for 7DMT. We have reservations for the F&W Hibachi Experience at EPCOT-Japan at 4:30 and our 7DMT is at 2:55 so I’m worried about cutting it so close.

On the bus ride from BCV to MK, some people near us were talking and since you have to speak up to be heard on the bus, I could hear their conversation. A man from NJ started talking to this couple from CT. They were swapping stories about how they avoid the lines by saying they are using the rider switch/child swap option even though neither had any children. I don’t know anything about this but apparently they would point to someone else’s baby stroller to convince the CM to give them a rider switch pass and then they walk on and avoid the lines. Maybe I didn’t hear them correctly or maybe I missed part of their scam but all I could think of was a) this behavior is probably akin to why the handicap bypass was changed because people lied and abused the system and b) when they do have kids, they’ll wonder why they act the way they do when these people are their role models! Some people never cease to amaze me. This day started out different and would continue.

Anyway, we get to the park just after rope drop and see this

Holy crowd level batman! Today was supposed to be a crowd level 5 but it was closer to an 8. Because I really wanted to ride 7DMT and I was worried about our FP+ being so late, I decided to head straight for the ride to see if we could walk on. Nope…it was already a 60 minute wait time! And while we were trying to decide what to do, a CM told us the ride was down. While we are in the area, I might as well take a few pics

Oh well…on our way to BTMRR, we stop to ride an old favorite

They wouldn’t let me ride that carriage so it was on the Haunted Mansion. I’m still trying to learn how to take dark ride photos and then use Photoshop but here is the best I did on this day

There’s a lot of noise in those pictures so obviously I have a lot to learn. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

(Continued from previous post)

As we were leaving HM, the Liberty Belle was passing by

Then it was on to BTMRR

Next up was a QS meal at Pecos Bill’s (cheeseburger, bbq sandwich and chile cheese fries!)

After our meal, we go to Splash Mountain. I tried taking some pics before we went over the falls

Believe it or not, Memory Maker did not include our SM photos in our package and I just noticed it when writing this TR. When we were riding SM, DS1 lost his hat. Maybe this is a Southern male thing but he was upset. It was a Saints hat that he had for years. His mood was not the best after that. We went to Customer Service at the front of the park and were told we could check the next day at lost and found. Lost and found is next to the transportation center! Sighhh. Needless to say, he wasn’t in the best of moods for a while.

We tried getting on the TTA People Mover. We were in line for 20 minutes only to find out it was down. We headed to Monsters, Inc Laugh Floor Comedy Club because it was only a 20 minute wait. It took over 40 minutes before we were inside.

After a nice chuckle, we headed back to the People Mover only to get behind a family, obviously from a foreign country and they were obnoxious and rude. We got to the bottom of the escalator and the CM told us to wait. This foreign family started arguing with the CM saying they couldn’t understand why they couldn’t go. Once on the People Mover, they stood up and were constantly yelling back and forth at each other. I don’t get it. If I go to a foreign country, I’m going to be on my best behavior. Maybe this says a lot about how others view the US these days? Okay, off my soap box and back to the TR. A few pics from the People Mover

As we were exiting, I heard over the PA system that the People Mover was down again. This is the first time in a long time we’ve experienced rides down like we did today.
