Alien Encounter Changing

Just got back from Disney on June 20. While walking through a store in Tomorrowland after riding Alien Encounter, my daughter was crying a little bit. To help calm her, the CM told us that Alien Encounter was being replaced by a Lilo and Stitch ride.

Anyone else hear this?

Yeah that's been a rumor going around for a while now. They are going to re-make it to a Lilo and Stitch themed attraction, that's about all I know.

are you sure about that because there are a lot of people that enjoy going on that rideit attracts so many people.

Personally, I have never really understood the appeal of that attraction anyway. We were there last week, and I wondered about how my 11yo would handle it. I asked afterwards what he thought, and he said he thought it was lame. All he could think about was doing Buzz Lightyear.

Also, some idiot in front of me was taping the whole thing with their video camera using the flip-out viewscreen, which lit up the place like a flashlight. I was really surprised a CM didn't come by and say something.

Yeah changing this attraction is the worst idea Disney has ever come up with. This is the best attraction at the Magic Kingdom and Stitch is a forgetable character at best. I will wear my Alien Encounter shirt with pride next month and let City Hall get an earfull.

Stich is another 'flavour-of-the-month' character that won't be remembered five years down the road. Another example of Disney trying to cash in on any small animation success that they may have while legendary properties such as 20K sit and rot.

Very well said. Some much for originality at Disney. My gosh don't the little kids have enough to do at the Magic Kingdom already. Give me a break. And if they really do chance this show because of the parents complaints on how it scared their little kids, I'll be frurious. READ THE FREAKIN WARNINGS. They say it will scare young kids. My gosh, I have personally told off some parents after exiting the show and I will do the same next month. And do people really think its that scary? There are so many in jokes and dry humor, I think it's the funniest thing Disney has done since Cranium Command. The crowds are still really good for this show by the way. It had a 30 min wait one day two weeks ago and I could see nothing but smiles and laughs coming out of the auditorium. I can understand updating an old and tired attraction not a new and fresh one.

Long Live X-S Tech!!!!

My opposition to Alien Encounter has always been its placement. It doesn't belong in the Magic Kingdom. It's a decent attraction, and would work well at the Studios, just not MK. It's very out of place and not in keeping with the tone of the entire remainder of the park.

I don't know. It is in Tomorrowland, which is about the future and it is the most futuristic concept ride in the Land. I guess if AE doesn't belong there then neither should Buzz. But both would also work for me over in MGM.

Also, one of the "Scariest" rides used to be in Fantasyland. Snow White's adveture was 3mins of the witch jumping out at you until they toned it down because parent's complained that Snow White wasn't even in it (duh, you are supposed to be snow white). I remember my sister, who was 7 at the time screaming and leaving that ride in tears. So why not have "scary" attractions, people like the adrenaline rush and it is something everyone can be scared on, unlike coasters.

I think AE shows some originality in its concept and would hope they dont change it to another character ride. Otherwise lets just close it down and put up another off the shelf spinner

The inane fuss over Stitch invading AE is a prime example of why Disney just can't take its Internet fans seriously.

The two most common complaints about this particular rumor are: 1) Stitch is a forgettable character from only a minor hit movie and doesn't deserve his own attraction, and 2) changing AE into a Stitch attraction will make even more "kiddie" fare in the MK.

So only memorable characters from Disney's very successful animated films should have their own attractions, hm? Tell that to the people who went nuts over the removal of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

Then we have the people decrying the further kiddie-fying of MK. Yet if Disney was to tomorrow announce a new MK attraction with a height restriction, more than half the posters here would rant and rave about how Walt's mission to make his parks for kids and parents to enjoy together is being destroyed, blah blah blah.

Disney's damned any way they do it.

The thing is that Alien Encounter has an extremely low "replay value". The effects are so simple and predictable, the acting so bad and the storyline so disjointed that it scares the little ones while boring most adults. If they do give it a makeover, I'll be happy, because that gives them a chance to get it right for one target audience instead of the mediocre mess it is now.

Yep.

Opinions, everybody has one.

Personally, IMHO, I am not for the further cartoonization of tomorrowland, but I would still rather see the stitch overlay, because alien encounter is lame.

***"Yep.

Butts and opinions. They usually both stink :-)

You're entitled to your own opinion but I think the alien's hot breath and especially the tongue on the top of the head are the two most realistic and best effects on Disney property. I don't know of any effects that are any better. And when you go to Disney World as much as I do replay value is a tough thing for an attraction to overcome. Alien Encounter to me has the single highest replay value in the Magic Kingdom with Splash Mountain and Buzz Lightyear following. I love the great story in Alien Encounter and I personally think it's hillarious.

Why on Earth do parents not pay attention to the warnings that the ride may be scary for little kids? I swear..

Exactly. These are the same morons that have complained enough that they are probably going to take away the best thing that happened to the Magic Kingdom since Splash Mountain. Listen its one thing to read the warnings and then take your kid on and take a chance. But then you shouldn't complain if they get upset and scared. This is one thing that really burns me up more than the people that don't read the warnings. Ok you know its going to be frightening to little kids but you take them on anyways and then you wonder why they got so scared. I have NO sympathy for these parents.

Personally, I would be glad to see Alien Encounter go....like others said...very little repeat value. Lots of noise in the dark and getting blown on and squirted by something that's supposed to want to eat you or something? Well, obviously it floats some boats.....but it just seemed stupid to me.

Lilo and Stitch was a very memorable film.....and Stitch for us is a character who shows how love can bring out the best in even the worst of characters. I'll be interested in seeing what's done. Can't say we'll love the ride just because it features Stitch....that will depend on the ride itself....but the idea sounds more interesting than the blowing up of a fuzzball alien and pretending to get nearly eaten.

And I'll grant that Mr. Toad's Wild Ride was rather stupid.....but it was my favorite during my first visit to WDW when I was in second grade. Nostalgia can do a lot for a person. Perhaps my own kids will feel the same way about Winnie the Pooh. And Stitch.

"I think the alien's hot breath and especially the tongue on the top of the head are the two most realistic and best effects on Disney property. "

I'm not sure why Stitch bouncing around the room in the dark wouldn't breath on your neck and flick his tongue on your head as effectively as the alien does.... what I see as an improvement is that they would have to change the audiotrack, and hopefully they would leave out some of the corny jokes "It's my mother in law!" that are so tired. It would be nice for something new to be there, to me.
