Alice in Wonderland?

Hmm interesting.

I don't think I'd want JD to be in another Tim Burton movie atm. There are plenty of other talented actors. I'm quite interested to see the approach they take on this.

I'm not big on Tim Burton.
And I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE 3-D.
With the passion.

Urgh! I can't stand 3-D either, unless it's in a theme park, then I don't mind so much. I remember seeing Spy-Kids 3D and just thinking "how pointless.."

I'm already annoyed Toy Story 3 is being released in 3D :(

It doesn't surprise me that Disney and Tim Burton are "paired". The Nightmare Before Christmas is Disney and Burton.

Charles Dodgson (aka Louis Carroll) wrote Alice in Wonderland trippy as heck and Disney's version didn't lighten it up any. If Burton's hands get on it...one can only imagine how trippy it will be! haha.

I, for one, am a huge Burton fan. I love his work. They are so unique and artistic. I just love his style.

I hate how its the cool new thing to make off beat weird movies now, and people like them because its the cool new thing. Across the universe fit into that vein perfectly, as have 99% of Tim Burton's films. Tim burton thinks he can do anything because his fanbase would do no less than cheer him on even if he was stabbing their mothers. He's got it in his head that he's some amazing artistic dark creator, but really, he's just another blockbuster director.

And JD is famous because a bunch of 11-13 year olds think he's hot. I love almost everything he did before POTC, but now the thought of him makes me ill. It takes a lot for me to watch one of his recent movies.

I don't like his movies because it's "the cool new thing". I think every artist is entitled to his/her style and this is Burton's. People like it because of its style. I do think there are some people who like it because his work is so popular - but I don't think that's the majority. Tim Burton's films seem to actually be dropping on that scale of "coolness". There are subtleties in all his films that make his films more than meets the eye. That is also what I love about them. They are just so complex. I think Tim Burton has his style and his artistic "voice" and think that is why he creates his films the way he does. I give him credit for taking risks and creating some very original features. It's better than seeing the same ol' stuff pop up on the screen all the time. IMHO. Tim Burton creates his films as most painters paint, writers write, and so on. He keeps making movies the way he does because that is his style. And he is very good at it, in my opinion. All his films follow through smoothly, they all get the message across, and they even dig deeper into ideas and concepts that most people miss who don't look into it. I'm used to over-analyzing literature and artwork and so when I watch films (especially by Burton) I tend to look for the less obvious messages. His films are FULL with them.

Johnny Depp is an excellent actor in my opinion. He always has been. From Hell is amazing as are nearly all his other major roles. Just because he is building up a fan base doesn't subtract from how great of an actor he is. While I may not be "crushing" on a man who is nearly twice my age (like those 11-13 year olds you describe), I respect and appreciate him as the actor he is - because I know what his skills are and I have seen his older stuff.

It's okay to like something even though it's mainstream. To be unique doesn't always mean having to like something only because it's not popular. ;)

I couldn't agree with your last two lines any more. JD was a blockbuster kiss of death before POTC. Nearly every movie he headlined was a flop. Since POTC and Jack Sparrow, however, all that's changed. Put JD on your movie poster and you'll make millions opening night alone. I've seen all of his movies previous to potc, and I'm a fan of his older work. I was a fan of him because he was doing what you could clearly see that he loved, and obviously not for the money. He is a strong actor, and I will not deny him that credit. But I am not a fan of him, because he's moved away from following rolls he loved and more into the mainstream blockbuster hits.

the last few lines fit my opinion of Burton as well.

I frickin' love anything Tim Burton does. That man is a genius! And I'd love to see Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. That would be awesome beyond awesome.

Johnny Depp would be great as the Mad Hatter. I love Edward Scissorhands, and when you mix Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, Disney, and such a great and politically charged story, you will have magic.

But I'll definitely pass on the 3d thing. That comes off as "Look what we can do!" to me when it's outside of a theme park. It's too much for beyond 20 minutes.

And I see both sides of the Johnny Depp arguement. A lot of people like him just because he's the cool one right now, but if you look at his older stuff you will see some amazing acting. With Tim Burton you do end up with a very dark but enchanting combination, but it doesn't mix well with glamour, and a lot of the people saying it are just hyping it up and trying to seem smart or cool.

Edward Scissorhands is awesome, just FYI again :thumbsup2

He loved acting POTC - he decided to do it because he wanted something his kids could watch. I'm sure that same thought went through his head with Charlie and the Chocolate factory as well. Maybe not so much with Sweeney Todd (but I still thought he did an excellent job with that lol). I agree with your reasoning, however, that an actor/actress is only so good as his/her heart will take him/her.

Frankly, I don't really care about Johnny's being in the movie.

What I do care is that the one and only MATT LUCAS is going to play Tweedledee and Tweedledum.

It's still rumoured, though. But if it's confirmed, I'd die and go to Little Britain heaven and have a tea party with Vicky Pollard and Marjorie Dawes.

(anyone here watches Little Britain, btw?)

Another thing. I'm mighty glad Evan Rachel Wood didn't get the part as Alice. To me, she lost her appeal when she's started trying to be controversial. That Mia Wasikowska girl seemed genuine and unique enough. Although it bothers me that Alice's going to be portrayed as a teen, not a kid.

If it's just up to Disney, I bet they'd just cast Miley Cyrus in a blonde wig (a.k.a. Hannah Montana).

Matt Lucas as Tweedledum & Tweedledee? That would be awesome.

Little Britain USA starts on HBO this weekend...

OT: But how the heck did you find a thread from May?! :O

Alice in Wonderland is amazing.
Johnny Depp is amazing.
Tim Burton is amazing.
This movie is going to be amazing.

I think it will be really cool! I love Tim Burton but Disney and Tim Burton just....don't mix.
