Alex and Ani bracelets, anyone else experiencing issues with discoloring?

I'm not sure this is the right place to post, but I purchased several Disney Alex and Ani bracelets when in WDW, all the gold finish and they have all tarnished horribly. I can't seem too get them completely clean and they just get worse. Anyone else have this problem and what did you find worked? I'm ordering if I could return them for the silver plated instead though not sure if that's a viable option. Thanks!

My wife has 2 or 3 Disney A&A bracelets (purchased online) and we haven't noticed any discoloration. She doesn't wear them everyday though.

I've got six of them, several I've had for a few years both gold and silver and I've not had any discoloration. I wear them quite often too. I wonder if the newer ones have a different type of coating on them or are being made different.

All of mine are the silver finish. If I leave them out in the air without wearing them for an extended time, they will tarnish some but a silver polishing cloth fixes that. The only other problem I have is some scuffing from wearing so many at once.

Yep! I absolutely love all my Alex and Ani bracelets but I've definitely noticed this lately! I have quite a few, so I don't wear them all very often, I rotate them them with what I wear. I do wear them, but I'm not particularly hard on them. I notice that the silver ones get discolored once in a while, usually when it's hot and I'm sweating a little. Silver polish and a little tlc cleaning them up helps, but my gold ones are awful. Cleaning them has not worked. Interestingly enough, it's only my Disney ones that do this. All the other ones I have are fine. It's probably just a coincidence, but it does bother me for the price we pay for them. As much as I love them, I will not continue to buy them if this is what will become of them.
Interested to see if anyone else has this or a solution to cleaning them up nicely.

Yes, my gold ones are terrible (A&A but not Disney). I have a few silver both Disney and regular and they are better but discolor too. I have stopped buying them but do like them. I will never buy a gold one again and might try one more silver one.

I really think it is something in my skin. I have a lot of trouble with things discoloring. All my watches are terrible - granted I do not have any high end ones - but regular priced Disney ones - and after a while the silver discolors and almost looks pink. I did buy a better one last time in Disney and did not go for a shinny silver one - but like a brushed silver one and that seems better.

BTW - there is a 10% off A&A on the Disney Store website right now - until tonight. I have also talked to the people at my local A&A shop and they said they could exchange my gold one (not Disney) if they still have it in stock for the silver one.

I have both silver and gold Disney A&As, all bought at Disney parks except my rebel alliance one that DH bought at the Disney Store online. Almost all of mine are all scuffed up and the finish is peeling from when I wear them all together. It's really frustrating, because I love them! It even kept me from getting the Epcot one in December, which makes me sad, because I want to complete my set of all the parks, bought IN the park represented (It's silly I guess!) My gold finished ones are holding up better than the silver by far. Maybe it's a batch by batch thing?

I don't wear them much at all anymore because they look so rough :sad1:

I really didn't wear them very often, the most was on vacation, so at first I thought it was just from sweating, humidity, etc., but when I got home I only wore them sparingly. I've used the cleaning cloth , jewelry cleaner, kept them in their boxes, nothing helps. I might try to exchange them when I go back to WDW this year.

You can take them back and exchange them at the Disney locations where they are in stock. It's been discussed in other threads and I've asked about this exchange policy at the Alex and Ani store in Winter Park. The salesperson confirmed that the bracelets can be exchanged if tarnished.

Thank you!

Good to know they can be exchanged... My very first Alex and Ani was the "gold" MK Castle in 2012 I believe and it's definitely very tarnished. Now I don't wear them as much so they aren't ruined.

They make these in my home state. Lots and lots of issues with discoloring. They have exchanged a few of mine. I only wear them occasionally (maybe once a month?) Never to sleep and certainly not in the shower/pool/sink etc...

As I said earlier, I have had trouble with mine too, but due to the 10% off Disney Shopping was offering yesterday I went ahead and purchased 2. One is the Wishes one (which I got because Wishes is our favorite fireworks show and it is ending). I plan on being very careful with my two ones and hopefully they will keep up their appearance.

I love the look of Alex & Ani but I don't really expect the items to last much longer than something you'd buy at Claire's. They are not made well & are fairly inexpensive. Most of what you pay for is the combination of the two brands, A&A + Disney. I'm pleasantly surprised to hear they will allow you to swap them out.

There is a product called Jewelry Shield that has helped my bracelets last quite a long time with no signs of discoloration. You can buy it on Amazon.

FWIW, I wear my A&A very infrequently, but I wear my Pandora quite often and have never had trouble with tarnishing. A&A can do better.

I only wear the silver ones, and so far so good. But my sister only wears the gold ones, and they've definitely tarnished on her. Only thing, she strangely seems to love the tarnished color and continues to wear them.

Good to know about the exchange policy. I've purchased several on clearance that I wouldn't care about throwing away, but I do have a few more expensive ones that I would definitely exchange if need be!!!

my brand new bracelet the silver finish is coming off on the edge! Anyone know how to prevent this?

I bought some in 2014 and have the discoloration, I have several other Alex and Ani bracelets that didn't come from Disney and aren't discolored, my Disney ones started discoloring within a few months..
