I am severely allergic to all tree nuts including but not limited to almonds, pecans, walnuts, coconuts, cashews, etc., (except peanuts, as they aren't a nut, they are a legume).
How hard is it going to be for me to eat out at Disney safely? Do you think I need to inform someone at the ordering of any meals at all places, including buffets? I dont want a big scene or special treatment, i hate that, i just dont want to keil over dead in Disney. ;)

I only ask cause I am so allergic I cant even eat food that's touched nuts and recently a woman cut my plain fudge with a knife she cut walnut fudge and i spent 3 hours in the ER on steroid IV, even thou I told her i was allergic to nuts.

Thanks!

it is very easy to dine well at the world w/nut allergies... my ds is tree nut and peanut allergic and here's the procedure that was recommended to us and works well... you will, however, get a little special attention/treatment, but it's necessary!

basically when you make your adrs let the cm know and have them mark the ressie... at that time they will give you the direct number to the restaurant so you can call the chef in advance (about 48hrs) and let him/her know if you wish... when you check in at the podium, let the cm know so it's sure to be marked on your card... when your server greets you let him/her know so they can alert the chef and request that the chef meet w/you... when the chef comes out, he/she will tell you what's safe, ask if there is something in particular you would like and if it's not safe how they can make it safe, as well as walk a buffet w/you and point out "yes" and "no" items... quite often the desserts/baked goods are off limits, so they will offer (or you can ask) for a special dessert... ds had some great fun desserts that way :)

not to worry, it is simpler in practice than it sounds... ENJOY! :)

My daughter is allergic to nuts and we went to Disney last September and had a great time! Yes, tell the server when you are being seated that you have a severe allergy and they will send the chef out to talk to you about what is safe to eat. At Chef Mickey's, we were there for breakfast. My dd wanted the Mickey waffles which were safe but they were right next to a Peanut butter pizza. So, he made her fresh waffles in the kitchen and brought them right out to her! Also, many of the desserts were off limits and they would make a point to bring a dessert she could have (in most cases it was ice cream which worked out fine for her since she's a huge ice cream lover). Another thing to do is to contact Disney before you leave. I can't remember the name of the lady (I think Bennett was her name but if you go over to the Disabilities board they will be able to give you her email address) but she was able to provide me with information about what was safe/not safer prior to our trip.

Thank you both very much. You have relieved one of the biggest fears eating at me before this trip.:thumbsup2

As both your kids have the same issue, let me just add that as someone who grew up with this since i was 6 years old. It does get easier and there is a book, if you dont already have it, about kids being allergic to nuts. Its a little boy telling how important it is to ask and watch what he eats. My son is also allergic, but not as severe and he loved the book.

Also I know this might not be the right place to ask but since you dealt with it, Do either of you know if the medical facilities on site are equipped to deal with someone who does go into shock? I'll have my epi-pen and my son's on me, but that only gives me an extra 20 minutes to get help, it wont save me, as i suppose you know.

If you go to the Disabilities board, there's a FAQ sticky thread that has Brenda Bennett's email. Contact her and she'll email you a list of ingredients for CS and snack foods. It's really helpful for pre-planning your meals. The CS restaurants also have binders available that list the ingredients of their menu items. On another thread it was reported that Disney is now using whole grain hamburger, hot dog and sandwich breads and pizza crusts that have cross-contamination warnings for nuts/peanuts, so watch out for the bread.

I am taking dear son age 4.5 (allergic to all nuts/eggs) to Disney in June. When I made my ADR's I was given a number to call 48 hours in advance. I've never gone on a trip and not brought his own lunchbox with his own food. This is going to be a new experience for us. I am very nervous and will be carrying the epi-pen. I would also like to know about the closest medical facility.

42 days left.....Yeah!

I'm also allergic to tree nuts...(it's nice to hear about another adult with the same problem) Disney is very easy to work with. As you know they sometimes stick nuts in dishes you wouldn't expect and the chef always knows what everything may and may not have come in contact with. A word of warning...they will refuse to bring you anything that they didn't make in that kitchen..which is most of the desserts. I'm a big fan of my desserts and spent most of my last Disney vacation with ice cream. It's really not a big deal, but I did miss having the option of chocoate cake. I am pretty used to dealing with my allergy after 30+ years so I know for the most part what I can and can't have. I'm sure your the same way. Disney is much more in tune to Allergies than your local resturant whomay say "there aren't many nuts in it..." or "you can just pick them out":scared1:

I would suggest going over to the disABILITIES Forum. Specifically, If you go to the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, look in Post #3 for discussion and links concerning dietary restrictions.

Or, if you want an easier route, click on the link in my signature.

I just contacted WDW a couple of days ago regarding a soy allergy. I received the following links from them:

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/common/helpFAQ?id=HelpFAQDiningPage

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wd...tail?id=GuestServicesSpecialDietaryDetailPage

They also sent me a Guest Allergy form to fill out.

I felt better about it after I received it. My daughter can go into A shock if confronted with a LOT of soy (for instance if she gets soy sauce on something or eats a veggie burger or soy filler added.) However, things like bread made with a little bit of vegetable oil she is fine with. On a weird note, because it is not supposed to cause problems, if something is fried in vegetable oil it makes her have a bad reaction. She is lucky because usually she figures out when something is not right within a bite or two, and will stop eating and then won't have an awful reaction. But the OIL is a big problem. Processed oil is supposed to NOT be a problem. UGH. I felt much better after contacting them and finding out per Brenda that everything in the world is fried with Canola oil!!!!! YAY!!!!! My daughter is thrilled. She gets to eat french fries and corn dogs and chicken nuggets.
