Hey DISers -

I have an upcoming stay at the B&YC. I had planned on a dinner at both locations but due to our flights I will need to cancel one. Wondering if you could choose only one - which restaurant would it be and why? I haven't eaten at either for dinner - but enjoyed breakfast at Cape May before.

Thanks!!

If you're a huge fan of seafood I would say keep the Cape May buffet since it's an all you can eat seafood buffet.

Ale and Compass from what I hear is nothing really special.

We are choosing Ale & Compass this trip. We have enjoyed Cape May in the past but want something new and the menu looks good. We have read good reviews.

We are long-time Cape May fans and had a terrible experience on our last visit (July). Virtually non-existent service, food seems to have taken a big dip in quality. The renovated A&C looked really nice and I regretted not going there instead.

Another long-time Cape May enthusiast who had a bad experience on my last visit (may this year). Crab was horribly over-cooked and tasteless so, yes you could eat as much as you wanted, but you didn't really want to eat much of it. To me that meant it was a poor value meal. I think prices may have gone up since then, if so I hope the quality has also gone up.

Cape May is one of my hit or miss places. We've been about 6 times and half were good and half not that great. Not been to Ale and Compass but been to Captain's Grill once and thought it was okay, but my mom and MIL and FIL LOVED it. We had it booked in Dec but had to move our trip to March and I booked it for breakfast instead of dinner. Maybe think like this: busy loud buffet, getting your own food, seafood/carving station/salads/desserts- or -sit down menu, little more chill, can gets steak or other non-seafood or just appetizers if you want.

While I haven't eaten at either we did stay at BC on our last trip and after smelling the "wonderful" odors that Cape May puts out at dinner I don't think I could eat there. I do love seafood, but just the mix of all the smells was enough to keep me away. Heck it was enough to make me try and avoid the lobby all together in the evening :P
