I figured as much. I'm hoping he arrives around the same time as us. I could have my husband hang back and wait for him, but weve never been on DCL so I kind of wanted to board together. Or we can just make it easy and tell BIL we didnt have time to stop to grab him a 6 pack. LOL

I'm assuming the few ruined it for the many. That said, the current allowance is still more than other cruise lines and you can restock at each port.

No one ruined it. Disney just decided they needed more revenue from selling booze.

Remember the old days when you could bring any kind of liquor. I always thought that was way to generous of DCL.
You could set up your own bar in your Stateroom.
We never need more than a bottle or two of wine.

I know of a couple that still manages to get liquor on board... for them to mix some of their own coctails.

On our last cruise in November/December 2022 we went to the Eastern Caribbean. We went to Leather Back Brewing s tasting room that is across the street from the port they were in St Thomas.
We had a few beers and brought back a couple of six packs.

How did you like Leatherback? We are on that Eastern Caribbean itinerary this November and I was scoping out Leatherback (my dad is a beer fan).

I always save some T-shirts from our regular luggage to wrap around the wine bottles. Saves the extra packing material and we know they wont break easily.

They make special bags for that. They have baby diaper material padding them so that if the bottle breaks, it's all absorbed by the material and won't get on your clothing. That's what we always travel with. They are slim and really don't take much room. We used to use the t-shirt method but then we saw what the cruise lines do with the luggage and hoooooboy, not any longer. (I'm sure @PrincessShmoo has a photo of the luggage in the hallways because she's the queen, er, princess of photos.)

We get wine in ports to take home with us so those bags are definitely needed! We also still wrap in t-shirts in addition to the bags.

Wine and/or Beer (and non-alcoholic beverages for that matter) are not supposed to be in your checked luggage. So there is no need for wrapping them up for bags which will be tossed around. Just secured for carrying it on.

How did you like Leatherback? We are on that Eastern Caribbean itinerary this November and I was scoping out Leatherback (my dad is a beer fan).

We were impressed. Their beer was good but I do not remember the prices we paid.
We did end up bringing back a couple of six packs of their Hurricane Thanksgiving Rum Barrel aged Baltic Porter. It was a limited release and we were there on a Disney Christmas cruise that left Port Canaveral the last week of November so the might not have it all year.
The nice part was Leatherback was right across from the main entrance to the port.

Back in November of 2019 while on our last Disney cruise to St Thomas we found a place called Rock City Brewing Company in the port but I am not sure if it is still there, also while in Tortola we found a local Island beer that was brewed not to far from where we live in the United States. They use a contract brewer to help with demand when the brewery on the Island can't keep up.


When ever my wife and I go on cruises we always try to find either a local brewery or place that has local beer.
In the Cayman Islands we take a Taxi to a brewery called Cay Brew. They have some really good beer and we always bring several six packs home.

This is part of why I like Disney's approach to cruising. Bar service runs the full spectrum. You want drinks by the Pool, well the bars have good selections for coktails, frozen drinks and beers/wine. Service is good and you can count on getting it mixed well and quickly. Inside arount the Atrium are typical hotel level bars with some seriously top shelf choices. Great staff and almost always miexed perfect. Adult level bars have good levels of choices too... pub style, dance club, wine bar etc. All of them usually know what they are doing and have a good range of choices. On the Fantasy, Meridian has an upscale feel and the bar outside Remy (forget the name) is really nice too. You can get really expensive drinks or cheap(ish) drinks.... full choice.

Meridian is the bar between Remy and Palo on the Fantasy and Dream. Has two outside seating areas as well which are great for views of the sail away though the bar isn't usually open at that time. It's our favourite lounge on those ships and one where we spent a lot of time. So much, that on our Dream B2B, one of the servers would just start getting my favourite drink ready as soon as I walked in.

I would say that the drinks are better than at WDW in general.

The only thing I would stay away from are the premixed drinks they sell during sail away. The drinks if the day are usually quite nice for a decent price. I like to go to buy them directly from the bar at the adult pool as I know they will then be freshly made in front of me (or at least in part, they are often premixed base with alcohol added to it).

The adult bars in the ships all have a distinct bar menu with some rather innovative drinks. At Keys on the Magic we had a drink that was finished table side. Very cool!

All in all I find the cocktails far more appealing on the ship than the wine which I find rather overpriced, even though I have enjoyed some excellent champagne at Oh La La on the Fantasy. Never had a beer on board. But then I ask used to German wine and beer prices and find DCL prices crazy.
