Just curious, I noticed people where buying alcohol to bring on board. My question is how expensive is it? Not a huge drinker but I could see having a few on the trip so just wondering if it is worth it.

Thanks,

The drink of the day is very reasonable. If I remember correctly, it's less than $6 with the auto gratuities. The others vary depending on what kind of drink you want.

Good question, yes it's slightly higher but actually lower than some tourist places and lower than some mainland restaurants, I personally think it's far too much effort to bring booze on, I buy wine and cocktails the price is higher than a supermarket but reasonable. You may save $2 But get it warm or in used glasses and it's just Penny pinching / nickel and dime.

In line with other cruise lines. Prices are not much more then you would pay at a land based resort in the US. Probably cheaper then some big cities like Vegas & NYC. I have 4th & 5th cruise coming up and have never felt the need to carry my own on. Not worth lugging around when I am on vacation

They also don't charge double for a "double" like most places do. Rum and Pineapple is something like $8 for a single or $11 for a double. If you having more than one just get doubles.

Great! Thanks everyone! I am lazy and was looking for reasons not to lug more stuff on board.
It will not save you a heck of a love and your on vacation, do not lug more than you gave to and part of a cruise is getting a nice cool drink, * served* to you.

Isn't the gratuity something like 15-18% per alcoholic beverage?

We always bring a bottle of Rum, vodka and wine. My wife enjoys vodka and water mixed with lime and I may drink a rum and coke. It it not overly challenging to pack it and we hardly notice the weight. We do check it in our suitcases and has never been a problem. I am an under packer and bothered more by packing something I don't use versus some other people that over pack and end up not using half the stuff they brought. So I do have the room. As for purchasing alcohol it really isn't that expensive especially the drink of the day. The specialty drinks in the adult clubs at night or the wine in Remy/Palo can add up.

While you may have never had a problem, that's not what DCL asks be done.

From the DCL website:
Q:May Guests bring alcohol onboard?
A: While adult Guests ages 21 and older may bring alcohol onboard, the following guidelines apply:

  • Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.
  • Guests who arrive in the dining room with a bottle of champagne or wine that has been brought on board will be charged a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle.
  • Beverages must be packed in your carry-on bag—which must not exceed 22 inches wide, 14 inches high and 9 inches deep in dimension.

We always take an assortment on board including a decent champagne (Bollinger) and some liquor in miniature form to make my nightly Sangria and cocktails on the balcony, but it is easy for us as we drive to the port and they don't have some of the things I like to drink. The prices are not horrendous on board, we only drink in the adult restaurants or Meridan and I don't remember any of the cocktails/champagne being more than $15/$20 a glass, I think the beer was around $7 with tax but it's not something I drink so others may know better.

If we only had one cocktail a day, we would not bother lugging liquor on...but we drank a bottle of wine a night, and went through two handles of Captain, a large bottle of Parrot Bay, a liter of Goose and a bottle of champagne in 15 days for 2 people. We maintained a solid buzz from breakfast til midnight for 15 days and that would have been very expensive to do at the bar :)

You sound like my kind of people. Sometimes you just end up having a good time like that. Once in St. Maarten we got off the ship to hit up duty free. I had to carry my son back because his stoller was 'in use' for the return trip! :cool1:
