Alcohol prices

some are reasonable, some are not. I remember being shocked on our first cruise when those 4 glass of Moet Ice we had in the adult bar were $25.00 per glass. We bring our own liquor - rum and vodka - and buy a 5 night wine package for 7 day cruises. Apparently we're lushes : )

I understand the policy and I want you to feel free to follow it. We do drink it in our room and around the ship specifically at the pool.
  • Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.
  • Guests who arrive in the dining room with a bottle of champagne or wine that has been brought on board will be charged a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle.
  • Beverages must be packed in your carry-on bag—which must not exceed 22 inches wide, 14 inches high and 9 inches deep in dimension.

The reason DCL REQUIRES that alcohol is brought onboard in carry-ons and never in checked luggage is because of the risk of breakage and damage not only to the offending party's luggage contents, but to other passengers' bags and contents. I for one would be a lot more than minimally P.O.'d if someone had say, a bottle of red wine in their checked bag, and it broke and ruined MY stuff.

Notyourtypicaldisney, I know you think breaking the rules is harmless because so far "there's never been a problem", but your choosing to break this rule could jeopardize Disney's generous policy of allowing alcohol to be brought onboard. And it is not okay for you to put others' belongings at risk. :sad2: Have you ever seen the higher-than-your-head mountains of luggage backstage on the ships?? I kid you not that it looks like a dump truck filled with luggage just dumped out by the backstage elevators. I'm amazed your bottles of booze have made it through. It's only a matter of time before they do not.

Oh, and I think the prices for the most part for drinks on the DCL ships are pretty good. Certainly cheaper for the most part than what we see when dining out here in the Orlando metro area.

My Father-in-law was recently on the Magic and he wanted a Mango Margarita, the bar tender said they did not have Mango juice on the ship, my FIL got some while in port and they had their Mango Margaritas made up for them. The bartender kept the leftover juice with his name on for future drinks during the cruise.

Thanks for the prompt replies! I will budget for the 15% (I believe) gratuity. It is just me drinking, so I think I would get a nice bottle of wine to enjoy. If I have dinner at Palo, can they bring my wine to Palo or will they charge me corkage fee the second time?
:thanks:

Corkage fee is only charge once per bottle.

We always bring a bottle of Rum, vodka and wine. My wife enjoys vodka and water mixed with lime and I may drink a rum and coke. It it not overly challenging to pack it and we hardly notice the weight. We do check it in our suitcases and has never been a problem. I am an under packer and bothered more by packing something I don't use versus some other people that over pack and end up not using half the stuff they brought. So I do have the room. As for purchasing alcohol it really isn't that expensive especially the drink of the day. The specialty drinks in the adult clubs at night or the wine in Remy/Palo can add up.
I think the purpose of handling your own bottles/cans is because if they break or burst it will ruin other passengers' luggage!

If you purchase your wine in the MDR or have a wine package, there is no corkage fee and they will store it for you until the next evening if you don't finish the bottle.

We took a bottle of rum, & 3 bottles of wine on our cruise. On our last night of cruise we took the wine with us to dinner & shared with our table mates. My husbands aunt owns an orchard & just started an apple wine, so we thought we'd share with our new friends. They didn't charge us the corkage fee, not sure if it was because they forgot or they thought it was a nice gesture sharing with 6 people we didn't know. We never used our rum or the other bottle of wine. We also bought 2 bottles of tequila in Cozumel that we never opened.

We found the drinks onboard to be much cheaper than we expected, especially the drink of the day. Next time we might take 1 bottle & that's it. It was kind of pain to wrap it all up & then lug it around in carry on until 1:30p on departure day & then bring it all home.

We picked up an 18 pack of Coors Light in Port Canaveral before boarding. It was $15. Coors Light on the ship is $7/bottle after the added gratuity. So we could buy 2 for the same cost as the 18 we carried on. Not much trouble for $100 in savings.

I googled the prices of the wine offered and the markup is high even after considering the corkage fee. For the same amount, I would rather bring in my own wine with higher quality and pay the corkage fee. The wine package is not worth it to me. Since I am from Toronto and sailing out of Vancouver, I will just bring in my own wine. The only issue is, I will be visiting Banff before Vancouver. I'll have to buy travel protectors to safely store the two bottles of wine in my checked baggage. It will be a hassle to carry them around on embarkation day, but I will have better wine choices.
