Alcohol packing tips (for flyers)?

Oh, Good to know! I didn't realize you could have it in checked luggage. Yeah, the way they throw luggage around I would be scared to put it in there.

I think I have read that DCL checks your checked luggage for liquids but am not sure on the rules for that either. I usually just have it in my carry on but then it is SO heavy till we get in our room.

I love how I learn something every day here! :goodvibes

Does DCL confiscate alcohol that is in checked luggage? Has that happened to anyone?

If you fly in the night before your cruise (most people recommend) then you can take the liquor out of your flight checked luggage and place into your cruise carry-on. If flying in the day of sailing just don't attach the cruiseline luggage tags prior to your flight. Go retrieve your luggage from the carousel, remove the liquor to place in your cruise carry-on, then take your luggage to the DCL transfer desk. They'll help you affix your luggage tags there and take the checked ones off your hands.

I typically shift things between my flight arrival in Florida and my cruise embarkation. I'll stuff clothes, shoes, anything non-liquid into my carry-on when I'm flying then swap it out with the liquor in my checked luggage before heading to the cruise terminal.

I don't know if DCL checks bags for bottles and such. No cruiseline is 100% detecting smuggled liquids in checked bags. If they find it they can take it. I have no idea if they let it go even if they find it.

Large quanitities of liquids/liquor/alcohol is a PITA to schlep around. I agree. It's a trade-off. Try to think of ways to get the weight off your back by utilizing rolling carry-on suitcases and/or rolling duffles. We like to do a rolling carry-on suitcase with our backpacks or other large heavy bags strapped to the top or tethered to the front side. Any way to get that weight off our backs. It can be a lot of bulk but again, it's the trade-off.

I was just trying to figure out how I was going to fit my box of wine in one of those wine diapers.

Remove the bag from the box and slide into a diaper??? Or, go full-improvisational! Buy large size actual diapers, cut the sides to open them flat, duck tape them all around your wine bag, then slide the diapered bag into a heavy mil plastic bag and duck tape that tight. There ya go! Homemade!

Yeah, I learned that last time. Now every time I go into a store with luggage I am keeping a eye out for a good deal on a carry on size bag with the wheels and handle. I will defiantly get one before out next cruise! :thumbsup2 ::yes::

I don't think Disney cares about you bringing alcohol on board so there really isn't a reason to confiscate it unless they think a minor has it or if it leaks. I have read where someones checked luggage was held up because they had to open the bag and remove alcohol from it. I think maybe it was a minor that was trying to sneak some on-board. That is why I thought that maybe it was welcome but only in a carry on. I might look the rules up for our next cruise. On our last one the only thing I took was some water and ginger ale. I was more scared I was going to be seasick.

we are in the same situation, no car and we would like to bring on some booze. But is it worth the hassle, how much would a bottle of chardonnay cost purchased on board which we would could drink on our balcony.

I think Disney **asks** that liquor/wine/beer liquids come onboard via carryon. I haven't read the cruise contract or anything official looking for that. It's just the way I understand it from the years of reading up on DCL travel online. They ask it as a courtesy in case of breakage or leakage. It's happened in the past that someone's red wine bottle busted open and destroyed some other guest's belongings. Not cool. That's what they want to avoid. For my peace of mind as well I prefer to carry these things so I ensure that MY belongings in my checked luggage aren't compromised. So in that regard, I'm not sure if Disney will or has confiscated anything. I know other cruiselines who don't have the liberal liquor policy will often call folks down to the "Naughty Room" to remove detected items, tho. I've read about that. It was strictly because they didn't want you to have it.

Honestly, I really do hope Disney finds it's way to some inclusive adult beverage packages. The convenience of not having to bring anything with us is sooooooo worth the extra expense to me. It was the thing we loved best about sailing with Royal Caribbean. And it's one of those things people like to say is a "nickel-n-dime" thing! We want to give Disney that money above and beyond our cruise fare. I'm hoping they come around to it eventually!

Awesome to know and now I will be packing it in my checked luggage and not worrying about transferring it to my carry-on!

Carry on, everyone.

From Disney Cruise Lines' website:

Q:
May Guests bring alcohol onboard?
A:

While adult Guests ages 21 and older may bring alcohol onboard, the following guidelines apply:

Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.
Guests who arrive in the dining room with a bottle of champagne or wine that has been brought on board will be charged a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle.
Beverages must be packed in your carry-on bag—which must not exceed 22 inches wide, 14 inches high and 9 inches deep in dimension
Coolers filled with personal items (e.g. soda, alcohol, chips, candy, etc.) may not be brought on board.

Please note: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from checked luggage. In such cases, items will be stored and returned at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage.

Use a camelback and fill it with the alcohol of your choice. Hang it in the closet on a hanger and use the value as a pour spout.

You're welcome! :)

(Clearly this idea doesn't work well with beer)

I tried to buy everything thing in plastic bottles. I think all was except for jack Daniels. I then wrapped them in bubble wrap/plastic bags and cushioned with clothes. I checked the bag and took it all out to carry on the ship.
