Alcohol offered at Ariels Grotto breakfast?

Well, I don't think anyone has been overly harsh or unkind. In her original post, she asked if anyone agreed with her opinion. Most didn't.

True, FlameGirl. I don't think anyone was overly mean or anything. I just think maybe we were missing the point. I'm pretty sure her point was getting at the fact that Walt didn't want alcohol served in his park, and perhaps especially not at breakfast? I don't know. I'm not saying its even a good point. I'm just saying that we all ask questions, from time to time, about the magnitude of departure from Walt's original vision. And I think we all need to remind ourselves that Walt, sadly, is not here anymore, and the big business marches on. In this case, I agree with others on here...big business can feel free to march on over to me with a mimosa in its hand anytime it wants to :cool1:

I honestly didn't mean to offend anyone with what I said, so I'm sorry if it was taken personally. I live in Australia and I am guessing it is very different here to it is over there, I just haven't heard of alcohol with breakfast, apart from the champagne with brunch sort of thing. :confused3

No problems, Tink91. I seriously doubt anyone is offended -- just of a different opinion. That's what makes the world go around!

And I hope I didn't offend you with my comment. I really meant no offense, just expressing an opinion too.

DBF and myself were just at Goofy's Kitchen on Sunday for brunch with another couple and I enjoyed a mimosa! :goodvibes

Also, I've had a mimosa at Critter Country brunch. :thumbsup2

I could tell that they don't get a lot of drink orders at GK because it took a long time to get the drinks. However, it was very nice once it came. Excellent amount of champagne and they gave you a little bottle of extra OJ to add if needed!

So they do serve alcohol at the Critter Breakfast at Storytellers? How interesting!!

I wonder if this means that Surf's Up with Mickey also serves alcohol, since it's not located inside DL. I bet it does!!

I'm so glad I tuned into this thread. I learned something about my favorite DLR restaurant - Goofy's - that I never knew before, in 18 long years!!:rotfl2: All this time I had no clue and saw no signs of alcohol at that breakfast! It's a good thing to know - not only because it will appeal to a few of my friends in the future, but also as a reference point for people who post on the DIS and ask questions about Goofy's. (But, personally, I will stick with my water, orange juice and coffee!)

You're right - I bet they are not that accustomed to getting alcohol requests at the GK breakfast. Most likely there would be more requests if people actually knew about it, but I would bet that there are many folks like myself who never had any idea! If I have been eating there as long as I have and never knew that you could get a Bloody Mary, there have got to be other people who also don't know.

As I said yesterday, you learn something new every day - and you learn something new about DLR, specifically, every day!!

*gasp*.. Jack pot!!!!

Guess where funball will be having breakfast next time she is at DLR?

I don't find it right, that a Disney restaurant is serving alcohol at 9am on a Monday breakfast, it really doesn't seem like it's something Walt would have liked at all. I do see the opinion on hey, we are on holiday! But personally I dislike it.

Well, he did want it to be a place for families, where everyone can enjoy themselves at the same time (not just parents sitting on benches).

But besides that, the dude smoked cigarettes allll over Disneyland...not sure he was the best to be talking about what's right or not. Sure do appreciate him for creating Disneyland, but I'm not going to look to him for what's right or not. :)

And I don't really drink those morning type drinks. I've had a mimosa before...cheap OJ, cheap champagne...pass! I've had a bloody mary when desperately hungover on Jan 1st 8 or 9 years ago...it was the most disgusting thing, and did NOT help me feel better. I will admit that sometimes I finish off a leftover beer when we're staying at a McMenamins B&B property down in Oregon (but only a Ruby Ale b/c that's made with raspberries and is nummy) before we go off to get our b'fast and coffee, but that's strictly when we're at those particular places (just like I only eat pimento cheese when in South Carolina, and just like my hubby would ONLY eat vegemite when in Australia!). Anyway, I don't defend it b/c I loooooove a drink at breakfast/brunch while at Disneyland...I defend it b/c it's just not that crazy.

Beer in your cereal?

LOL...a friend of my brothers, when they were in high school (all Advanced Placement students, the elite brains of the school), was left at home while his family went on vacation. He had finals or something, couldn't leave. They left him money and food, but by the last day he was pretty much out of it all. Went to have b'fast, no milk, no juice, no nothing except for beer his parents had. So he did indeed have beer in his cereal. Don't think it was very good, I'm fairly certain he regretted it, but he had it! Crazy dude.

I prefer beer in my pancake batter with Jack Daniels infused syrup. Then I like to wash it down with some Rum Punch. It gets the day off to such a wonderful start :thumbsup2

And with your location in Utah, it just makes your post even better. :rotfl:

Yeah, I'm not your typical Utahn...In no way does my family or me fit the normal Utah stereotype.

I think it's one reason though why I get so defensive about alcohol. I live in a state where you get judged and shunned for drinking alcohol. The general population here has NO clue about alcohol or the effects, they assume that one drink means your wasted and that if you drink, you're a bad person. Not all Utahns are like that, but you would probably be shocked to see how many are that way.

When I go on vacation, I enjoy being able to get away from it all for a week or so. Threads like this (and Glowfest) irritate me because if I want to be judged, I would just stay home!

Glad I could provide useful information! :rotfl:

Just to add - perhaps it's new, but on all tables was DLR's usual drink menu so it should now be pretty clear that they serve alcohol, at least for dinner. The menu did not feature mimosas or bloody marys (usual brunch drinks), but I just asked for it and there was no problem.

And just for the record to others that worry about people being drunken idiots - after my mimosa I was not a loud, obnoxious drunk in front of children. I was just able to tolerate those strollers jamming my ankles a little bit better. :thumbsup2

I'm one of those Utahns ~ but I don't not drink *that's so funny ~ of course I drink, I love water, milk with certain things, etc. I just don't drink alcohol* because I'm not allowed to, I don't drink because I choose not to ~ noone is forced to do or not do anything being LDS :) And I would say you're a very typical Utahn ~ especially here in Ogden, I feel like an outsider - it's strange, and the people here *not all* are scary, lots of other states *not that I've visited many - but the ones I have I enjoyed* seem much nicer *people wise* I'm aware that all places have their not so nice areas. I also don't get the *Why drink if you're not gonna get drunk*

As for drinking alcohol at breakfast or whenever ~ that's fine I suppose, but again why drink and not get drunk? I remember thinking this when I was a foreign exchange student in Germany, my host family drank wine with every meal.

No offense taken at all. :) Being from Australia could explain why you aren't familiar with the practice of a good drink with bfast. :) :)

Molly not all Mimosa's are made with cheap OJ or champagne, when we have them here we have them with a good sparkling wine (champagne but made in CA) from Domaine Carneros or Domaine Chandon to use. :) I'm not really a Bloody Mary fan, I'd go with a Mimosa over a Bloody Mary anytime. :)
