Alcohol in Fantasyland?

Well if you saw my follow up post I said that of course walt was a genius and visionary and a true genius in his arts and ideas, but his social standards and beliefs do not hold up in these times. he was known to be sexist and was a leader in the whole Hollywood blacklisting witch hunt as well many other things that have been said about his social ideas. Of course these ideas were just products of the time and do not make him a bad man, but we shouldn’t be basing our social policies off someone’s beliefs from about 50 years ago, that is all I was saying.

ill reiterate that I don’t believe they should have like beer bins and a drinking atmosphere like busch gardens or something. I do think when I’m paying 40 50 dollars for a plate of food i should be able to enjoy a nice glass of wine or beer to compliment my meal.

I did read your follow up post. That doesn't mean I wasn't offended by the post that I originally quoted. Despite Disney's possible character flaws (I never met him, so I can't comment on that subject) I believe he deserves our respect when it comes to his vision and his dream. Disney properties are unique from any other family entertainment in the world. This is true because Disney had specific ideas regarding his themes, and the quality of his parks. I hope that the current imagineers and Disney executives continue along the same path Walt himself would have taken. If they do, we will be able to continue to enjoy Disney's creations as we always have.

To get back to the original discussion, I love a cold beer on a hot day. Just not within the walls of the Magic Kingdom.

I enjoyed reading this thread, but then I came across this and just had to respond...

I don't have any issues with serving something with a nice dinner.... but this is the MK we are talking about. There really isn't anyplace that you can GET a Nice dinner there, so that arguement is kind of a moot point. ;)

:rotfl:

haha well while im at disney every couple months i wouldnt know that. i never do TS there since they do not offer booze and i dont see a point in sending that much money on table service with my GF and ordering a coke but thats just me. with that said i assumed that the Royal round table and the crystal palace are somewhat nice given their names, prices and the $$$ next to their names.

Crystal Palace is a character buffet. Lots of food choices, but by no means a fancy dining establishment. Cinderella's Royal Table is also a character meal, pre-plated at times and other times you order off the menu. But, again, it's a character meal.

And both are named because of their locations. The Crystal Palace is designed like the (wait for it)... Crystal Palace. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crystal_Palace It's been named as such since LONG before it became a buffet.

Cinderella's Royal Table is named as such because of its location in the castle. (previously known as Prince Stephan's Banquet Hall).

the $$$ and prices are more because you are paying for the Characters, and not so much because of the food.

I don't think they should ever have alcohol at MK. That is more geared toward the little kids and you don't need a bunch of drunks knocking over kids. I think it is fine in Epcot and HS because those aren't necessarily catered toward kids. I mean yes kids go there but I think of those parks as more appealing to adults.

I find it interesting that to so many people on this thread, allowing alcohol in MK = drunks wreaking havoc all over the place.

I don't think I've ever seen a drunk knocking people over in the other parks. Guess I've missed all the fun! ;)

yes of course.. people will be running wild, women will be walking around toppless and men will be throwing up on peter pan... just like the other parks and disney paris....

I'm not the type to paint broad generalizations based on one isolated incident. If I did that, I'd say MK should be closed to kids, strollers, ECVs, childless adults, the elderly, and the handicapped. Which pretty much leaves no one. ;)

As I said earlier in the thread, I would have no issue with them serving alcohol in the restaurants in the MK. But I for one am glad not to have to worry about encountering this sort of incident in this park. Or any number of less severe versions of this sort of incident. I think the likelihood of disruptive behavior is much greater when alcohol is available than when .... say.... strollers ..... or scooters...... are available.

You can still run into that behavior, as alcohol is only a short monorail ride away. Or, if you go to the Contemporary resort, a 7 minute walk away.

The design inspiration for the crystal palace at the Magic Kingdom is the conservatory of flowers in San Francisco, not the crystal palace of the London exposition of 1851.

so one guy, and we dont even know that he was drunk he might have had something else wrong with him or been on something. how many of these videos took place in Epot, AK and HS where they serve here in florida?.. actually its kinda hard to get drunk at disney since its about 9 bucks a drink

Not necessarily. We saw security come out of the woodworks (really beside the building in France) a couple of years ago during Food & Wine to escort some drunk 20 something year olds out. We were walking around to the different booths too and had noticed them for quite a while getting more and more drunk and more and more obnoxious. They were right ahead of us, when suddenly just was we were walking from Morocco to France a bunch of security showed up and escorted them out down a little exit just to the left of Chef's de France. Not sure what was said. Security spoke very quietly, but the drunks (party of two drunk young men, one drunk lady, and one lady that appeared fairly sober) yelled and stumbled around for a minute, but were quickly escorted back stage. We also saw a drunk vomiting in the shrubbery right outside Norway one year at the Food & Wine Festival.

You wouldn't happen to be young, would you?

YES........it is hard and expensive and that is the way it should.......there is NOT any reason to be a drunk at WDW..............Its a very specail place for Families, kids and adults........and frankly, drunks and/or any one on drugs, are not welcome or wanted!

Disney has been much stricter on drunks/DWI the last 2 or 3 years and I hope they continue to be.......*take them by the collar and toss them out the Gate*

So all is clear.....I am not talking about folks enjoying a drink or few drinks, I do enjoy a drink or few as well! I am talking *drunk/druggies* = a fool person who is abusive to other guests and/or CM's......noisy, rude.....falling down......puking and/or pissing in the bushs....etc.etc...you all get the idea!*

I'm with Walt on this one.
What, dead and with your head encased in carbonite? :rotfl2:

Family parks aren't the place for liquor.
What about family restaurants? Family parks? Family homes?

There is a time and place for booze, heaven knows! I don't think Disney parks is the place.
Your opinion -- thanks for sharing.

If you want to drink, go to a bar or a sporting event. The Disney people disagree, obviously.
Thank God. I prefer to drink in an amusement park. A DISNEY park, to be precise.

But I'm with Walt.
Somehow, I don't think so. Seriously, if I can be Frank for a moment...

You DO know that Walt ordered Club 33 set up in Disneyland, don't you?
