So, what are the rules - everytime you hear the world "small", take a drink?

My hubby and I don't drink - I've never had a drink of alcohol in my life as I think it's a totally useless activity. Having it at Chuck E Cheese or Disney World for that matter just justifies people's obsessions and addictions to alcohol - why do people need to drink at these types of places? I don't know why people need to drink period, but that's another discussion! I know people drink for a multitude of reasons, but honestly, I don't think it's necessary at these types of places at all. It just feeds the addictive society that we live in as little kids become accustomed to seeing adults drink at all times and it then it becomes acceptable.

Not trying to offend anyone, but I have very strong beliefs about alcohol, cigarettes, drugs and coffee - they are all illegal drugs that kids grow up thinking are acceptable because they are allowed at restaurants, theme parks, etc. I'm speaking as a high school teacher of at risk teens who started consuming these substances at very young ages because they watched their parents doing it. Sorry, but I subscribe to the theory that adults need to be good role models at all times, and so not being able to get by for an hour at Chuck E Cheese without having a drink is not a good role model in my book!

Actually, besides being wrong about what substances are legal in this country...you are also wrong about why teens drink and why there is an alcohol problem.

The mentality that alcohol is an illicit, taboo substance is what causes the problems, IMO. The idea of drinking 'until you are wasted' is the problem. The idea of 'drinking to solve problems' is. The idea of 'getting through the day' with alcohol/using it as a mental crutch is.

Teens do not get drink because they saw their parents drink in moderation. People do not become alcoholics because they are drinking in moderation. Drunk driving accidents are not caused by drinking in moderation. Violence is not caused by drinking in moderation.

This country is fixated on taboos. The thrill of the forbidden fruit is what makes alcohol so enticing to children in this country.

If that were not the case, you would not have such high stats of alcohol use amongst those who are constantly being told they are forbidden to consume it.

Most adults do not have an alcoholic drink to 'get drunk' or because they 'need' alcohol.

IMO, if we took away the taboos and morality issues, we would have less and less problems with non-addicted people drinking to excess.

As to the original question...no, people do not need alcohol in Chuck E Cheese restaurants. Nor do they need sugar-filled carbonate drinks or fat laden cheese stick appetizers in Chuck E Cheese. But they sell them. They sell them because people like them.

Well said, P & W. I definitely agree that none of the things you mentioned are needed. Frankly, Chuck E Cheese itself isn't needed.

Please don't tell Tiger926, but I had a beer and coffee today. And the last time I was at Disney I actually combined the two with a real tasty after dinner drink at Epcot.

Tiger926, I think you are way off on this subject and it kind of sounds like your views are the only ones that matter. I think a responsible adult should be able to do anything that is legal. The key word here is responsible.

I don't think anyone should get in the car under the influence, but if you are not driving, there is nothing wrong with enjoying a nice cocktail and a good cup of joe. Read PoohandWendy's response to your post. I think she is right on about this subject.

You are so right P&W! I totally agree.

And btw, I had a beer earlier too, and not because I "needed" it, I just wanted it. ;)

They sell wine at CEC??????? I was trapped in there Monday night with my DGD and would have loved a glass to blurr the pain. :drinking1There were machines crunching tickets, teletubbie rides, kids tossing balls up some alley, mice singing and dancing, and my DH competing with a 4 year old to see who could aim a water gun better!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, people have been taking their kids out for pizza and enjoying a beer at the same time for a long time.

Tiger

Well I'm a BAD role model then!

I went to CEC as a kid and my parents and other adults drank beer. I don't think I'm scared for life. Am I?

There were many social occasions growing up where the adults had drinks (wine and beer, mostly) and neither my brothers nor I are drunks or in any kind of therapy.

If you don't want to drink, don't. But don't judge others that want to have a beer while the kids are playing Wack-a-Mole. Now, if a parent gets drunk off their butt, that's a differant issue, but I'd imagine that's a very, very rare occurance.

I might be more willing to take my kid now!!

I see nothing wrong with it at CEC's or anywhere. When we hold parties, even those for kids in our families, we always have a couple of beers or wine coolers, but don't go over board. The only place we don't if we do parties at the city parks, for they don'tallow it.

I have been to other kids parties and have known the parents to serve beer/wine but usually after the kids main activities are done with, and the kid's are just atthe playing in the yard stage. While the cake, presents, main meal is happening, no, it's water, sodas, juice. Once the spotlight is off the birthday child, then that's when they serve. I have yet to get buzzed, not to mention ever drunk at these types of parties.

I don't drink alcohol. In my younger days, I may have had a beer or two, NEVER any mixed drink..blech. Beer is the only thing I could drink, and only Bud Light. It is an aquired taste. I have been drunk MAYBE two times in my whole life. Not something I enjoyed.

Lucky for me I don't like to drink, because I now have a liver disease and can't drink, even if I wanted to. But I will say, to those who think that people who drink only do it because they have to. Not so. Believe it or not, some people just ENJOY a beer or two. It is one of the coldest drinks you can get without ice. Even myself, a non-drinker, just took a few sips of a nice cold beer, because at the time, I was warm and thristy, and the cold beer felt good going down. I then worried for weeks about what i might of done to my liver. But guess what? I lived!

Yes there are alcoholics in the world. But are they lined up outside of CEC to pound down a keg or two? I don't think so. CEC serves beer so the parents can enjoy themselves also. I don't really think they are falling out the door, trying to drive the kiddies home.

My father used to give me shots of whiskey and sips of his beer when I was around 10...much to my mother's dismay. :lmao: I'm surprised I didn't grow up to be a raging alcoholic. In fact, I really don't drink all that often and I never drank as a teen. Also...gasp!...my mother used to drink 4 cups of coffee every single morning! I do drink coffee, but only decaf...and only a few cups per week.

I don't see a problem with serving beer at CEC. I have unfortunately been there many many MANY times  and have never once seen someone who had had too much to drink.

Ok...that was a joke.... nobody go and get all "bunched" up! :lmao:

No bunching here--would have LOVED that option back when DS was Chuck-E-Cheese age.

Wow! I personally think beer and alcohol should be available everywhere!! :) (ok maybe not everywhere!)

And - Tiger - some of us drink because we WANT to, ever think of that?

Yes I think beer and wine should be served at CEC. Then again I've seen parents in MK that could use a good drink. :teeth:

Beer and other alcohol should not be served at Chuck E. Cheese's. The kids are rowdy enough as it is.

Works for me!!

I always wanted to combine "Buzz Lightyear" and "It's A Small World". Picture how much more enjoyable it would be if you could aim a laser at the dolls for points.

In response to the original thread -- I don't think alcohol should be served at an establishment geared towards children.

Our CEC applied for a liquor license about a year ago. There was such an uproar in the community that they ended up withdrawing their application. They said that it was in everyone's (including their own) best interest that they withdraw it.

I am not picking on you personally, just referencing the opinion shared by many on this thread.

Assuming that adults are drinking responsibly and in moderation, why is it any different than soda? I mean, alcohol is not illegal or inherently evil - it's just a beverage.

I don't think that all adults can be trusted to drink alcoholic beverages responsibly and in moderation with it having no effect on their personalities or better judgment.

With that in mind, if I were having a child's birthday party outside of my home, I'd research the establishment first to make sure that they do not serve alcohol.

And ... I don't have children, so this really is a moot point.
