Alcohol at Be Our Guest

This is a shame. It is just opening the doors to serving alcohol in other MK restaurants, then what? People walking around with To-Go cups spilling their beer like in Epcot? No thank you, that's not for me. Why was the MK kept dry all those years? Because the management wanted to uphold Walt's traditions. Well, the bottom line has finally won out over Uncle Walt.

I did send an email to Guest Relations expressing my disappointment and this weekend I will be sending written letters to The Board of Directors and Robert Iger, Thomas Staggs and Meg Crofton. Will it make a difference? Who knows? But if you don't speak out, you will never know.

Really? You have gone from ONE dining location with LIMITED drink service (and not even hard liquor) to the entire MK falling down drunk? There aren't people falling down drunk at AK or DHS or Epcot (like I said, one occasion out of several F/W visits have I seen an obnoxious drunk at F/W on a weekend). I feel awful that you obviously can't trust the corporation you've been giving your vacation dollars to, to let them make some decisions that they feel they can make. You might not ought to come back. They might start selling drugs, too. And letting all the rides break down. Cinderella will be living in a trailer, fighting with Prince Charming, wanting to know when he will finally marry her after she bears him a few kids.
Let's not go to extremes, ok? Not rational at all.:rolleyes2

Did I say drugs? No. Please don't misrepresent my words. I said it is opening the door to serving alcohol at other locations, etc. I have seen one man vomit and another man shove his way through my family or should I say stagger and grab ahold of me in Epcot due to drunkeness. Is it irrational to not want to repeat those experiences??? Feel free to experience them yourself.

I agree with you, it is awful what is happening. I have a trip planned in October and I will have my eyes wide open. If I like what I see, fine, if not, I will choose to spend my vacation dollars elsewhere. My perogative.

Everyone is so quick to use Epcot as proof that Armageddon is upon us. We are more than a dozen pages into this, and not one person has raised the "fear" that the MK will become just like AK or DHS. People, get a grip. World Showcase at Epcot was tailor made for drinking. It is a giant bar. There is no way, no how, that the MK could ever become like this. Folks who want to predict doom here would do better to try to tether their arguments to the alcohol "abuse" they witness at AK and/or DHS. Or better yet. The resort restaurants that are only open for dinner like California Grill or Citricos. But using Epcot as your benchmark is unrealistic, bombastic, and completely lacking in credibility.

I drink and have had alcohol at every other Disney park. I've even been known to overindulge and stumble out of Epcot after Party For the Senses. And I don't like it. Not one bit. Seems completely wrong. I don't have a valid argument as to why I feel this way and wish I could come up with something compelling to support my feelings. But I can't. And I still don't like it.

Haha this! I love to drink on occasion. Especially on vacation! However, I liked that MK was a place all about kids and being a kid at heart. It just saddens me but it is not the end of the world.

Excellent point, JimmyV! No one talks about people falling down drunk in AK or DHS. Heck, they have drink bars at the water parks. So, why is it that alcohol is in all those places, but no one brings them up as examples? Epcot is a unique situation. As you say, World Showcase all but beckons people to enjoy a drink or two or three. They even have bar crawls. This will not occur in MK. Everyone just needs to chill out.

Wow. I might actually eat dinner at MK now.

Couldn't agree more. We often choose not to eat there because we do enjoy wine with dinner, especially on vacation. I'm thinking that if they're changing the policy with this menu why not go ahead and add it to the other restaurants?

It is such a shame that yesterday a good part of the Magic and Pixie dust has departed from the MK.:(

Walt is surely looking down with a tear in his eye.

With luck enough people will be calling and emialing WDW to complain!::yes::

Coming out of BoG and walking through New Fantasyland...

I shouldn't have had that one glass of wine with dinner. *rubs eyes*. I'm seeing double Dumbos...

Again, assuming you know what Walt would want in the year 2012.

Also assuming that Walt would have made MK dry in the first place, he passed away before any of those decisions were made.

Please spend a little time reading about his feelings on this matter and the videos of him explaiing his disire to keep alcohol out of Disneyland and the WDW MK.

Considering the drunks in Epcot, esecially on F and W.........it is obvious his opinion would not have changed.

Did you know him personally to know what he would have liked in the year 2012. If you did, you are lucky. I did not know him personally, and I would never try to say that I know how he would feel.

I'm not saying alcohol should be illegal, but own up to your actions. Drinking is irresponsible no matter how much or little you drink. Every alcoholic started with "just a drink". No one sets out to drink and drive, but it happens a lot and kills lots of innocent people. Drinking can never be responsible.

As far as Magic Kingdom, I don't think serving wine at Be Our Guest is the end of the world, but I do find it sad how people are so obsessed with alcohol to the point they can't go more than a few hours without guzzling it down. I think it's sad that adults can't exercise personal self control and refrain from drinking for such the short period of time they are in Magic Kingdom. If you need alcohol to enjoy Disney then you are probably taking the wrong type of vacation.

Oh dear.....

Oh good lord. The theatrics...

People are acting like this was a decision made in a vacuum. Disney doesn't make a move without research and evaluation. They obviously found that there a market for alcohol at one restaurant in the MK.

Email all you want, but it's not going away. Of course there will be some backlash, and certainly Disney expected it. Of course most emails about this issue are against it; the people perfectly happy with it see no reason to shoot off congratulatory messages to the company.

Oh boo hoo! I think Walt would have agreed to this a long time ago! It's all about progress and making money which he was always for! Adding alcohol in one restaurant is not gonna change a thing or get people drunk! I doubt Disney is gonna change their mind because a few people like you don't like alcohol! I just don't get why people like you care about this so much? If u don't like to drink no problem then don't buy it! I know Disney is one of my fav places to have a few drinks because I never have to worry about driving anywhere! We can enjoy ourselves and then let Disney transportation take us safely to our hotel! Love it

Nothing is obvious about what he would do today. Have you not changed ony of your opinions in the last 50 years?

I have also seen people vomit and shove at WDW. Guess what, none of them were drinking.

I'm not sure why I'm surprised, but holy mackerel, this thread is still going?

It's a corporate decision. If you like it, great. If you don't like it, there's nothing forcing you to go there! And, you know what? A couple thousand emails aren't going to make a difference.

Personally, I think the "magic" and "pixie dust" have been disappearing for awhile, and it has nothi g to do with alcohol. The sheer number of rude guests has become enormous. People walk without looking, shove, push, curse loudly, etc. I'm no prude, but I notice a big difference over the past couple years. It's sad.

Where else can you vacation and get the same feel (and what's left of the magic) besides Disney? Heck, where can you vacation that doesn't serve alcohol somewhere?
