I just sent in a kudos email, and suggested that they open alcohol service to all the MK restaurants. Its about time! :thumbsup2

Great idea!

That's an oxymoron. I've never understood the term "drink responsibly". A responsible person doesn't use mind altering substances. The moment the first sip passes someone's lips, they are acting irresponsibly. Wow. You just managed to insult 75% of the world's population, including every religious officiant who drinks sacramental wine, and the good Lord himself who thought that wine would be a better option than water at the Marriage at Cana.

I'm not saying alcohol should be illegal, but own up to your actions. Drinking is irresponsible no matter how much or little you drink. Every alcoholic started with "just a drink". You obviously have no clue as to what alcoholism is. It is not the cumulative total of alcohol consumed over time. It is a physiological inability to process alcohol, like an allergy. Drinking can never be responsible. This is absurd on its face. If I am sitting here in my house, enjoying a glass of wine, with no intention of driving, not operating heavy machinery, I am somehow acting irresponsibly? Toward whom? You? Myself?

If you need alcohol to enjoy Disney then you are probably taking the wrong type of vacation.

Explain for us how allowing alcohol at Epcot, DHS and AK from day one comports with this last sentiment. Is someone who park hops from Epcot to the MK precluded from having a drink prior to entering the MK? Are people who go to AK and enjoy a beer somehow inferior to those who go to the MK and stay dry? Is a person who leaves the MK at 7:00 p.m. to go to Mizner's for a glass of Champagne and then returns to the MK taking the "wrong" type of vacation? And if having that glass is OK, is it somehow less OK to dine at BoG and have a glass of Champagne? Arguments should follow logic. I don't follow yours.

I was just thinking that Captain Jack is going to love this! Well, he prefers rum, but I'm sure he can make do with whatever is served.

Seriously though, I don't know why people are so up in arms about this. As others have stated, alcohol is at every other park, including TL and BB, all the resorts and their pools, and at DTD. Yes, we know it's tradition that MK has always been dry. But really, it's not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things. And if you really feel that strongly, you could always boycott. Yeah, I didn't think so.

I am all for wine and beer at a sit down restuarant.

For those of you who claim to know Walt so well to say he would be rolling over in his grave or whatever the comments have been...really? Why are you entitled to say what someone would do or believe? We live in a different generation, a different world since Walt has been alive. Wasn't tv still showing married couples sleeping in double beds back then in Walt's time?

I think claiming to know how Walt would feel in the year 2012 is a disgrace to his name, not the fact that they want to serve alcohol at a sit down dinner.
Just my opinion.

Not just yours. Mine too. I have no doubt if the board of directors had told Walt that the time had come to allow a limited amount of alcohol into the MK's most upscale restaurant, and doing so would boost profits, he would sign on, but would want reasonable limits. That appears to be exactly what we have here.

As or the person saying it is in other places, Paris, etc. that's not a valid argument as country CUSTOM is clearly different on drinking alcohol!

Upon whose say-so? It is convenient to pretend that the difference between DLParis and the MK is "custom". What about Japan? What about Epcot, DHS and AK? Our country either has a "custom" of enjoying adult beverages while on vacation or it does not. The "custom" does not begin and end at the gates of the MK. More accurately, the good people of France looked Disney in the eye and said that they were nuts thinking that they could operate a dry park. That exact same decision would have been made here if the MK were being constructed today. And we have to look no further for proof of that fact than the other parks and resorts around WDW.

I've got news for a lot of people....MK hasn't been "dry" for years. I'll admit I had a little Baileys Irish Cream in my coffee last December during the last MVMCP.....I can't be the only fan of the little airline-size bottles! :rotfl:

Any parent that complains that they don't want strangers drinking around their little snowflakes in the MK are hypocrites if they step into any of the other parks with their kids, because they are exposing them to exactly what they are so against here.

How many go ONLY to the MK, because they are the only park that doesn't serve alcohol? My guess would be ZERO.

I don't think it's a terrible idea. Sometimes I like a glass of wine with dinner, especially a nice dinner. Maybe it wasn't in line with what Walt originally wanted but as many have stated before me who knows what his vision would be now in this day.

It is sad that by allowing alcohol to be purchased in the MK, we are losing sight to Walt's dreams. I am very disappointed in this decision and while I like to purchase a nice cold and refreshing beer or margarita at EPCOT/AK, I will not be doing so at Be Our Guest.:(

Sad and disappointing that a French styled dinner would serve wine? Sad and disappointing that you can consume alcohol in DHS and then ride ToT, or in Epcot and ride Test Track, or in AK and ride EE, but now it is a tragedy that you can have a glass of wine with dinner in the MK? People need to stop being so Ameri-centric and Puritanical. The rest of the world can consume a glass of wine it the non-U.S. Magic Kingdoms, but somehow the sky is falling if Americans can enjoy the same pleasure? I don't think so.

I don't think anyone (so far) has said that they object to drinking in general, more that MK has been dry since it's opening because it is mainly geared for children. :flower3:

But children aren't going to be drinking. And they won't be scarred for life if they see someone else doing it. So it's a weird argument to be making.

So is Chucky Cheese, yet they have had alcohol since I was a kid and I am 36 y old:rotfl2:

That's because it's the only way they can get the parents to tolerate it!! :rotfl: Same reason they serve beer and wine at Mickey's Backyard BBQ!!

That is true! That show is aweful. Even as a kid I only went for the pizza and games:rotfl2:

Plenty of people are bemoaning the fact that wine will be served at one single TS restaurant in the MK at dinner only with no option to walk out with a "to-go" cup. The post of mine that you quoted was directed at that sentiment. Not some overall objection to drinking in general. (That came later).

We don't NEED it but we are glad it will be offered. We used to think a sit down meal at MK was a waste of time; now maybe we'll slow down and enjoy a nice meal and some wine. I'm so glad B and the B is set in France!

This is a shame. It is just opening the doors to serving alcohol in other MK restaurants, then what? People walking around with To-Go cups spilling their beer like in Epcot? No thank you, that's not for me. Why was the MK kept dry all those years? Because the management wanted to uphold Walt's traditions. Well, the bottom line has finally won out over Uncle Walt.

I did send an email to Guest Relations expressing my disappointment and this weekend I will be sending written letters to The Board of Directors and Robert Iger, Thomas Staggs and Meg Crofton. Will it make a difference? Who knows? But if you don't speak out, you will never know.

Mine, too.
I am absolutely appalled that so many people claim to know what Walt thought and that he would not evolve in any way over 40 years. Seriously? Walt was an innovator. And learned how to adapt, or else, WDW would be crammed in the center of Orlando, not out in a huge space where we have room for 4 parks (and more) and over 20 resorts.

When Walt opened DL, did you see the characters? They've evolved since then. Esp Mickey. Oh, I mean Mortimer. Change HAPPENS.

Is this a joke? I thought we were not allowed to post about things that break the rules at WDW? :confused3
