Album of the Year

I used to but the album if I liked one or 2 songs. Most of the time I have found other songs on those albums that I liked. A lot of times more even than the radio hits.

I remember the CD clubs (10 CD's for a penny, LOL) I have bought some that I only liked the one song. The Verve Pipe for one. No offense to any fans but I LOVE the song "The Freshman" and I got the CD that song is on. I listened to the whole thing and I didn't like ANY of the other songs.

Someone mentioned Matchbox 20. That was one that I Loved ALL the songs.

Yea people forget Dre slapping Dee Barnes back in the day, Michele’ made accusations and of course his wife.
Then Jayz a big old cheater on his wife wanted to “have her back” and still took the award so he can put his label cognac in it.

Staying classy
It goes back to the question; does an artist's actions affect your ability to appreciate their art? He deserved the award, no question, but getting up and walking out like the show is over? Using his acceptance speech to whine about his wife getting passed over? It's crass. Yu would think by now that he would have learned it's about being nominated and being invited to the ceremony. It's not about having the trophy gathering dust on your mantle.

I bought whole albums from people or groups I was a fan of, like U2, when they came out. This was back in the day when albums were on cassettes and you had to rewind if you wanted to listen to a song again. Other than that, I bought cassette singles.

I remember going to Sam Goody in the mall and making mixtapes on a system I've forgotten the name of. That was always fun.

Good post! For me, yes, the artist's (or athlete's) behavior does affect my ability to appreciate their art/talent.
I can't separate the person from their deeds, and I don't think they deserve for me to do so. They're only human, despite talents and wealth, and they should be held to the same standards as the rest of us. No free passes.

With streaming, music consumption is obviously different than it used to be, but I still buy hard copies of albums pretty often -- there are 4-5 music artists who I buy hard copies of CDs and/or Vinyl records for every time they announce a new album. Typically, I pre-order them once they go on sale, so I buy these CDs before I hear any music from the album. To me, buying albums now is all about just supporting the artist and being excited that they're making new music.

I don't think I've ever bought an album that I regretted buying, but I'm embarrassed to admit here that I've bought multiple different CDs of the same album before. Music artists are clever with sales now, often dropping signed CDs and signed Vinyls or special Vinyl presses to get people to buy more media and drive up sales. Taylor Swift is especially good at releasing "___ edition" CDs that have one or two tracks that are exclusive to the that specific version of the CD.

I have multiple copies of Midnights, for example -- I pre-ordered the OG CD the night it came was released, was lucky enough to get a signed copy when she dropped those, and when I went to her concert at Metlife Stadium last year, she dropped a CD that was exclusive to just the Metlife stop of the tour with a special bonus track.

RIP Andy Rourke
