I just received an e-mail from Albertsons.com saying that they are discontinuing their delivery service as of April 26th. Did anyone else who has used them get this same e-mail also? We have always used them for our groceries when staying at DLR, and I'd be so sad if we couldn't do this anymore. Does anyone know if this is in effect everywhere, including the DLR area? I'm just wondering if it is only in some areas (like where I live), or if it is everywhere? If so, I am very sad about this. :-(

Well.....unfortunately, I just got my answer. I decided to call Albertsons.com to check on this, and the person that I spoke to said that they ARE discontinuing the delivery service to all areas starting April 26th. I'm very sad about this. I know Vons.com has a delivery service too, so I'm hoping they don't discontinue theirs. We have food allergies in my family, so we always get a delivery to our room so that we can have things that we know are "safe". We loved Albertsons and the great service that we've always gotten from them. Oh well, if Vons discontinues theirs also, I guess there are always taxis to stores....LOL Albertsons will still let you place an order online and have it ready for you to pick up if that works for some people.

I started with Albertson's and then switched to Von's only because I have a safeway card and got the discounts. I am glad that I did and I also hope that Von's doesn't discontinue there service. I have all the groceries ordered I am just waiting to process it once it gets closer to our dates that we are there. :)

I started with Albertsons and stayed with them because I didn't have any problems with them and I used a discount card for them too. I will definitely go with Vons if they keep their service. I never tried them because I was happy with Albertsons and I heard some negative things about Vons as far as people not getting their orders or the order being incorrect, etc. Have you had any problems with them?

This stinks!!!!!!!! We tried Von's once and I won't even go into how much of a mess it was including not getting reimbursed for MONTHS!!!! Looks like a taxi trip to the grocery store is in our future.:sad2:

You were one of the people I was thinking of who had a really bad experience with them. I know your order was really messed up but I didn't know about not getting reimbursed for so long like that. Yikes! Well, it looks like a taxi trip for us too. At least we can still order online from them and then pick it up. That way, the shopping will be done. Do you know where there is an Albertsons close by to the parks? We could always go elsewhere, but I kind of like the idea of having it all boxed up and ready to go when we get there. :)

I've never used Vons delivery service in the Anaheim area, but I live not far from there, and we've had mostly good service in the past, though once they did mess up a couple of items in our order (but we were promptly credited). But to be honest, we rarely use online delivery and opt to go into the store, so I'm not much help.

Overall, I prefer Vons over Albertsons. IMO, their prices are better, and they have better (and way cheaper) produce. Albertsons is by far the most expensive grocery store in the area.

I prefer Vons over Albertsons too when I am here at at home.
I live near a Safeway (Vons) so I go there all the time and I never go to Albertsons because there isn't one close to my home. We've only ordered from them while were at DLR for water, milk, snacks, etc. and I didn't compare those prices to Vons because we only do the delivery when we are at the parks, so it wasn't really an issue. I just really like the service we got from Albertsons. My only concern with Vons was hearing about the orders being wrong, but maybe that doesn't happen too much, so we'll probably try them this time. It's good to know that you have had mostly positive experiences with them. :)

Also, I'm not sure if it's worth it, but I think ART goes to Target, and if so, you can get milk, water, soda, snacks, etc. there. It might be a pain to haul it all back, but it's an option if you don't want to use Vons!

Not having a car, I have used both Vons and Albertsons home delivery service for years (never at DLR, though), and it helped to have the choice between the two of them because sometimes the same item would be on sale at one store for a great price and not at the other. In any case, I, too, got the Albertson's e-mail yesterday, and was very disappointed. I can tell you that my 'regular' Albertson's delivery guy (I never had anyone BUT him deliver my stuff so that clued me into the fact that they may not have too much home delivery business) was always asking me questions about Vons' service to report back to his superiors! They were very interested in how they could provide better service than what their competition was offering. I have had some outrageously bad experiences with Vons, and they have made mistakes on about 80% of my orders in 6 years - sometimes huge mistakes where the delivery guy never showed up - and they usually will only offer a refund on incorrectly delivered items if pushed, but make no offer to make up for the inconvenience they cause in delivering my important items to other residences! So Albertsons was a refreshing alternative to Vons' sloppy service. I think Vons began to catch on to the fact that the customers were getting angry and defecting to other home delivery services such as Albertsons and Yummy (Yummy operates in my area of L.A.), so Vons began to improve their service and get better drivers, better shoppers, better Customer Service people, etc. Now that Albertsons - their main competition - is discontinuing the home delivery service, I fear Vons will go back to its old sloppy ways because it won't have to try as hard!

I always preferred Ralphs (Kroger) when shopping IN-store. They were always my favorite. I WISH they would step into the home delivery business and give Vons a run for their money. I have a feeling they would kick some Vons booty!:lmao:

I have never used the grocery delivery service before but have family in the US that use it all the time from Vons and have never had a bad experience and I felt it was cheaper than Albertson's on the stuff we wanted any way. I am from Canada and couldn't get an Albertson's card to use to get the savings since we don't have that grocery store here.

I am hoping all goes well. We are going to be there in 4 weeks so I will post when I get back about the experience.

Thanks....That was a very interesting and helpful post. Yes, Albertsons worked out perfectly for us and I am sad to see their delivery service gone. We really rely on it when we are at the parks. My DS can't eat anything without our being aware of every ingredient in the item due to food allergies. So, we order some of our groceries and bring some with us. It is very important to us that we get what we ordered. If we didn't get items, or they were wrong, it could affect what he eats or can't eat during those days that we're there. I think we'll just have to try to order the basics from Vons, like water, milk, etc. and bring everything with us the next time. That way if something is wrong or forgotten, it won't be a huge issue. As you said, it will be interesting to see if Vons goes back to their old ways now that they don't have the competition of Albertsons. I will be awating peoples' recent opinions/experiences on using Vons. When I called Customer Service at Albertsons yesterday, I did let the person know how disappointed I was and how many of us use that service near the DLR. I know she can't do anything about it personally, but I'm hoping that she passes on the information to management, as I asked her to.

Maybe it is just the ones in the Anaheim or So. Cal area that are doing poorly at times? I hope it works out well for you on your trip, and yes, please let us know how it goes. :-)

I know how that goes!

Yes....I was just thinking about you and your DS! I was reading a post about him eating a cracker (I think?) and having an episode. I'm glad it wasn't too bad this time. :-) My DS had a BAD one at DLR the last time we were there. It is SO upsetting and scary when it happens at all, especially away from home. It's an interesting world (food allergies/sensitivities) isn't it?!

From all accounts here on DIS, it seems like the Vons/Safeway delivery service is better in Anaheim than up in my area - like maybe they don't make as many mistakes. So anyone forced to only use Vons now because Albertsons will no longer be available may not have as many problems as I do with Vons up in L.A. In fact, it is about time for me to order from Vons and/or Albertsons again, and I am dreading dealing with Vons. I am thinking I should have one last hurrah with Albertsons before the 26th, when they stop delivering - and Albertsons carries a couple of things that Vons does not (like my favorite Promax protein bars). If nothing else, I should stock up on those!!

I was planning on using their delivery service but I guess we'll have to use Vons. Is Von's and Safeway one in the same? May be a Canadian can help me with this question.... can Canada Safeway cards be used in the states?

Yep, it's the same thing. :) And they take all the cards from all of the stores they own -- Vons, Safeway, Pavilions...and a bunch of others.
