Not quite as good as the $20 in free groceries, but it is an actual Albertsons giftcard without expiration date, so that is nice.

Also, if you pay cash, you can get a $500 Visa gift card for a $6 activation fee and have $44 in giftcards ahead. (mastercard and amex are excluded)

I am just prebuying my gas, a little at McDonalds, and also bought some southwest airlines as we had a planned on booking anyhow. Love to get free groceries for my regular spending!

Promotion ends on Sept 17th.

Thanks for the info. I did not even look at the sales paper this week. will go now and get one. Thank You!

Acme also has the same offer. But I think that their's ends on 9/15.

News Flash! I just bought a visa gift card at Albertsons and used my Visa card to pay for it! Can't believe it! So I get 750 airline miles, and $44 in groceries and a visa card to make the payment on my sons band trip. Woo Hoo!

Now debating about getting $1500 more which is enough to pay off his trip, but will have to take out of savings and it is hard to get it back in there, as you know. But for almost 2300 miles and $130 in groceries, it seems worth it to me!

My Acme will not allow you to use a credit card to purchase a pre-paid Visa, Mastercard or American Express. No bonus points for me! I just want people to be aware that they may not be able to carry this off if they don't have the cash in hand ($506!!!!).

I did get the the 5 $10 Catalinas that are each good for an Acme gift card. That's a "profit" of $44 after the activation fee. I like this so much better than having to buy gift cards for Disney, Home Depot or whatever. This way the cash is still mine to spend wherever I please.

Can you use the albertson's gift card to buy other giftcards or even gas? Or can you only use it on groceries?

They are just albertsons gift cards so can be used for whatever those can usually be used for. I had the thought, could they be used to buy a Visa gift card, which could then be used for anything? I don't know. Probably won't try it because I always need groceries anyhow:thumbsup2

We did buy 2 more Visa Gift Cards with our Visa card though. The employees do tell us that it won't work, but when we ask if we can try, they say sure, we then run our visa card and it works no problem at all. Hey, just had a thought. Could you buy a new visa gift card with a previously purchaed visa gift card, thus regenerating the $44. in free groceries without really spending a new $500? Geesh, I need to get a life!

Actually some folks have reported doing exactly what I took the liberty of bolding in your post, over and over and over and... well, you get the point.

Just a heads up though; someone on a deal website I frequent reported that a catalina didn't print for them yesterday, and when they called to ask why, they were told the powers that be were aware that the promotion was being used in a way that wasn't intended, and they weren't happy about it.

Then this morning someone else reported that while they did get a catalina, it was not good for an Albertsons gift card anymore. Instead it was good for $10 off a future purchase, and it had an expiration date. So just like the previous promotion. I'm thinking they might have gone in and tweaked things a bit.

I haven't tested any of this myself, just thought I'd sound a cautionary alarm in case anyone was planning on trying it.

Maybe it would be a good idea to try a $100 gift card purchase first to see exactly what the catalina you get says before plunking down big bucks and getting stacks of grocery coupons that have to be used right away. When we did the last Albertsons gift card deal I think the catalina coupons were only good for a week, and we were struggling to find things to buy before they expired. ;)

I've read several couponing blogs where people have "rolled" their Visa purchases several times in order to get the gift card Catalinas. One shopper reported that even though she was shopping at another store, an employe from the first store recognized her and made her use a debit card to pay for her purchase. In fact, they took down her driver's license info and told her that they were forwarding the information to their loss prevention department.

Unfortunately, as always, a few greedy people took advantage of a loophole and abused it. So I fully expect that Acme/Alberstons/Jewel/Osco will either eliminate this kind of deal or else they will place more restrictions on it to prevent the abuse. Making customers pay with cash is annoying but it's a start.

So, is this unlimited? It seems like the buy $100 get $20 was limit of 5 per transaction. Is that what this one is too?

It's limited to 5 coupons per transaction. So you can buy 1-$500 gift card or 10-$50 gift cards in a single transaction and you will max out the number of Catalinas that will print.
