Alaskan cruises anyone?

We did Norwegian Cruise Line to Alaska two years ago on the Spirit. It was a great time, and a terrific ship (although I understand she's not doing Alaska runs any more). They have Freestyle cruising, where you pick where you want to eat and when, and it's not very formal. But it's not the kind of cruise everyone likes. If one cruise line pleased everyone, there would only be one cruise line.

I recommend The Unofficial Guide to Cruises, Fodor's Alaska Ports of Call 2006 and cruisecritic.com to get you started on choosing a cruise line and itinerary.

FYI Royal Caribbean isn't really that new to Alaska. The first cruise I took was to Alaska on Royal Caribbean and that was in 1991.

That is true! Thank you! I was referring only to their land portions. They just started those up in the last few years.

Yea I was jealous my parents got to do the land part on a later trip. Someday I'll get to do that hopefully!

I will be happy to give you my perspective in about 2 months.
The M's, DH, me and 20 other family members are going on the RCCL Radiance of the Seas to Alaska! I can't wait!
Just like Disney, I have researched Alaska to death. We chose RCCL because we have cruised them before and have been very happy w/ the kids programs, the ship and the overall experience.
My parents and my sisters family went to Alaska on Princess, Island Princess I think, 2 years ago so they will have something to compare it to.
I haunt cruise critic a lot!
We are flying to Vancouver and cruising and flying back from Anchorage. That is the more expensive way vs. round trip but you get to see more.
Be forewarned that the trip is expensive.
We are going in July, have a suite and it is costing us just for the cruise and flights over $10,000. We are also taking my MiL and w/ excursions we are budgeting about $18-20000.00 You can do cheaper but that is not even including a land tour.
