Alaska too warm and wet

Temsco has already broken down their dog musher camp and cancelled our Skagway tour that was anticipated to be the highlight of our 8/24 trip. I am grateful to have had time to re-book a glacier tour with them instead but remain sad about missing the dogs.

I was surprised to see nothing posted here so thought I would see if others have been notified.

I have a good friend who is a musher and used to go up to work as a judge for the Yukon Quest. She was up last year visiting friends and said that conditions are getting worse each year. She had some pics of the run she tried and you could see big patches of earth where there was no snow. Her friends have a dog sled business and raise pups and said they don't think they will be able to continue much longer. Very sad.

Given that the camp was already gone days ago, there was nothing to hope for about it working out. Assuming a significant number of people would be affected ( 4 ships in port that day) I would guess there would be quite a scramble to adjust bookings.

I think you mean the SW24 Disney excursion which is a ground based tour using a wheeled sled.
I booked directly with Temsco for the helicopter to their glacier based dog camp which is much more weather dependent.

I was booked with Disney and received an email last week about the cancellation. I quickly switched my excursions around and booked the dog sledding in Juneau. I think Temsco offers dog sledding in Juneau as well. Can you switch? We have been looking forward to dog sledding on the glacier and I hope it will go smoothly this time. Pixie dust!

Recent pictures of Tracy's Arm really showed how different the glacier looks in August. There's a lot more ice in May.
